Back in December, Fox Sports Net Southwest announced that they will televise games from the AHL Lone Star Faceoff Rivalry. Recently, the TV Schedule has been finalised on which games and who will be covering the games in the final 2 months and change of the regular season.
It will be sponsored by State Farm Insurance and it will televise 6 games starting in late Feb with each team playing 3 times on a combination of FSN Southwest, FSN Houston and FSN Plus. Each of the home Teams will provide the Play by Play while former Dallas Star Brent Severyn will be the color analyst for all 6 games that the networks will air. The first of which will be on February 27 when the Houston Aeros play host to the Texas Stars.
The schedule breaks down to having 2 games in late February, 2 in early March and then 2 in early April to help bring you the road to the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs which will begin in mid April after the regular season ends on April 11. Currently the West Division is cleary the tightest and will have the most exciting playoff races in the West Division with everyone having at least a decent chance of making the playoffs.
Texas is in the midst of the division Title Race as the Stars are just 1 point back of the Milwaukee Admirals after a 5-2 win earlier this week, while the Houston Aeros have been along the playoff cut line all year long with the Aeros in 5th place just 5 points back of a surging Chicago Wolves team.
Finally the San Antonio Rampage are looking to return to the playoffs after being one of the league's worst teams last year. They currently in last, but are quickly gaining ground on the rest of the Division with 45 points.
"As part of our Hockey Night in Texas initiative, we're excited to showcase the talented AHL Teams and players across the state." said FSN Southwest Senior VP/GM Jon Heidtke. "This series will gave fans throughout the state a chance to witness the exciting style of hockey played in Texas and will allow to follow the future Stars of the NHL on Television. We look forward to a successful partnership as we continue to promote hockey in Texas.
At the end of the regular season, the winning team will receive a payments from the 2nd and 3rd place teams to benefit a charity of the team's choice. Currently the Texas Stars have been leading the Lone Star Faceoff with 19 points, Houston is currently in 2nd place with 17 points and the San Antonio Rampage are in 3rd with 13 points with each team playing in between 45 and 50 games into the regular season.
