1/8 Boxscores and Game Stories

We have the Dallas Stars back home after a brief 2 game road trip to New York and New Jersey as the Stars got crushed in both games. Tonight, it's the NY Islanders in their only home game before a 3 game road trip next week with trips to Philadelphia, Columbus and Montreal coming up in the next 3 games.

The Stars may be starting to drift away from playoff contention as they are 6 points back of 8th place Los Angeles and 3 points back of the Detroit Red Wings. The big story yesterday was that Mike Rebiro will be on the IR for 4 to 6 weeks with a Throat Contusion where he was treated at a hospital in New York City during the 2nd period of the game against the New York Rangers. To make up for it.

Warren Peters has been called up from the Texas Stars to take his place for the time being. So far this season in the AHL, Peters has appeared in 32 games scoring 18 points (12G 6A) and has also has one career NHL Goal in a short stint for the Stars recently.

Speaking of the Texas Stars, they begin a 2 game series in B.C. against the Abbotsford Heat where the Stars are having their Division Lead pressured as they are just 2 points ahead of Milwaukee who won last night against the San Antonio Rampage. The Texas Stars have been on a rough patch right now where they hoping to build up of an OT Win against Houston back on Wednesday night.

As for the Aeros, they coming back with a home tilt against the Rockford Icehogs where a win could get back into the playoff spots with a win and some help from the Toronto Marlies as they play the 4th place Peoria Rivermen tonight at the Carver Arena.

In the CHL, it's the 2nd part of the Vintage Game Series between the Texas Brahmas and the Allen Americans as the game will take place at the NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills. For the Brahmas, they will be looking to continue the home dominance of this series as the home team has won every game between the 2 D/FW Rivals this season.

Elsewhere the All Star Game continues to inch closer as South Texas Rivals Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees and the Corpus Christi Icerayz face off as this could be an important rivalry towards the playoffs as the Killer Bees sit in the 5th and final spot while the Icerayz can get within 3 points with a win tonight.

For Tulsa and Odessa this weekend, it's the end of an era for the Wichita Thunder as they will look to close out the Kansas Coliseum in style as the Thunder will help open the Intrust Bank Arena on January 23 after a 3 game road trip that will take them to Allen, Bossier-Shreveport and Tulsa before the big grand opening against the Tulsa Oilers later this month.

After having 3 weeks off, the Texas Tornado are back with a home weekend series against South Division leading Topeka as the Tornado will look to get back up in the South Division to at least challenge the Springfield Jr. Blues for 3rd place. This is because it's going to be tough to challenge St. Louis and Topeka for the top 2 spots in the South.

For Texas, this is a critical month because 6 of the 8 games are at home and against some pretty tough competition as they play the Roadrunners this weekend and the league leading Wenatchee Wild next weekend.

Wichita Falls is coming off a 4-3 loss against Wenatchee as the Wild contuine their Texas Roadtrip with 2 more games against the Wildcats before coming to Frisco to take on the Texas Tornado. The Wildcats will need to take advantage of this weekend before a tough road trip has them going on the road against the St. Louis Bandits and the Texas Tornado, they next home game after this weekend won't come until January 29 when they entertain the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
