1/6 Boxscores and Game Stories

6 games on the NHL Sheet tonight as the Dallas Stars look to comeback after a shutout loss against the Devils last night, as the team makes the short trip to Manhattan to Madison Square Garden to take on the NY Rangers who are looking to get back up into the playoff spots as they are currently in 7th place out east right now.

The Stars came up against probably the best goalie of all time in Martan Broduer as he got shutout number 106 last night in the 4-0 loss. For the Stars, the team is 4 points back of 8th place Nashville in 10th place in the west. In addition, they also a point back of the Detroit Red Wings who are in 9th place right now after a 4-1 loss against the Anaheim Ducks last night.

Elsewhere in the NHL tonight is a battle for the Northwest Division as the Calgary Flames travel to Minnesota to take on the Wild as the Flames, Avalanche and Canucks are just separated by 2 points for the Northwest Division lead and an automatic top 3 spot in the standings for the playoff race as that's expected to start heating up as we near the February Olympic Break.

Also we have the Buffalo Sabres Northeast leading Buffalo Sabres taking on the Tampa Bay Lighting who are looking to get back in the playoff chase as they in the dust of the Washington Capitals who have a 14 point lead as we reach the midway point of the season.

8 Games in the American Hockey League tonight as the Texas Stars and Houston Aeros will do battle tonight in Austin as the Stars lead in the West Division has shrunk to 4 points while Houston is right on the edge in 5th place right now battling with teams like the Milwaukee Admirals and Peoria Rivermen. The Texas Stars are looking to put an awful December behind him as the team lost both games in Manitoba recently and will head to B.C. to take on the Abbotsford Heat this weekend.

For Houston, a win tonight and a loss by either the Chicago Wolves against the Hamilton Bulldogs or the Rockford Icehogs against the Toronto Marlies will get them back into the top 4 and ever closer to the Division Leading Texas Stars.

As for the San Antonio Rampage, they head to Michigan to take on the Grand Rapids Griffins will look to be above .500 for the first team this season after a really rough start to the season which included former head Greg Ireland to be fired around Thanksgiving. The Teams leading score Breet Maclean has been on fire recently over the last 7 games, by scoring 5 goals in the last 7 games including a pair of goals back on New Years Day against the Abbotsford Heat.

Just one game in the Central Hockey League tonight as the Amarillo Gorillas and the Arizona Sundogs. The Gorillas will look to get back into the playoff race as the Gorillas are currently in 6th place and a win tonight would put them tied with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees for the 5th and final playoff spot in the Southern Conference with a big win tonight in Arizona. Amarillo has had a strong run recently which included a shootout loss against the Rapid City Rush and a strong win with a 4 goal 3rd period to beat the league leading Odessa Jackalopes back on New Years Day.

For the Wichita Falls Wildcats, they have a tough task tonight as West Division Leaders Wenatchee Wild tonight as the Wildcats just got into double digit wins for the season and just have a lot of work to do catch the instate rival Texas Tornado for the 4th and final playoff spot in the South Division. The Wildcats has been hit hard recently which included an 8-0 loss against Topeka back on 1/2 and a 7-2 loss against Springfield back on December 19. This will be the first of 3 games for the Wildcats this week as they will play them on 1/8 and 1/9 later this week in Wichita Falls.
