4/21 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

We had the first Double OT Game of this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs up in Boston as the Sabres & Bruins were playing the crucial game 4 last night. It turned out to be a great comeback for the Bruins after going down 2-0 at the 2nd intermission.

Then the 3rd period saw Patrice Bergeon and David Krejci that scored early goals in the 3rd period that turned the tide, from their on, the 3rd period was a very tense and tight period with either side afraid of giving up a huge goal that would either make it 3-1 lead for Boston or the series tied at 2-2 heading back to Buffalo.

Most of the 1st OT was a fast pace period with tons of shots as both teams wanted to get it done early as the SOG were 10-8 in favor of Boston. Then a furious Boston PP early in the 2OT gave an opportunity for Miroslav Satan who scored on the PP with a set up from Micheal Ryder to put the Bruins up 3-1 with a chance to end the series in Buffalo on Friday Night.

The other 2 games saw huge 3rd periods from the Washington Capitals & Vancouver Canucks use 4 goal third periods as both teams were able to go up 3-1 in their best of 7 series'.

A very busy night in the AHL saw a huge shock as the Milwaukee Admirals came back from 3-0 and 4-1 down to score 3 goals in the 2nd period made it 4-3 Wolves at the 2nd intermission. It looked it was going to be a big effort that would come short, but a goal by Thang stunned the Wolves fans to tie the game at 4-4. Then with less then 2 minutes left in the game, Chris Mueller made it 5-4 Admirals to pull off the Game 5 win to force a game 6 in Milwaukee on Friday Night.

Other then night, it was a night of blowouts as the Hershey Bears & Worcester Sharks used 5-1 & 4-1 wins to advance to the Divisional Finals. The Bears kept the Sound Tigers down to just 7 SOG for the game.

Then in the Western Conference, the Texas Stars and Rochester Americans had big 6-1 wins to go up 3-0 & 3-1 in their series to put them on the brink of winning their first Playoff Series in Team History. While the Hamilton Bulldogs had to survive a 4 goal 2nd period by Manitoba to win 5-4 in Double OT to go up 3-1 in their Best-of-7 Matchup.

The First League Championship Spot was clinched as the Barrie Colts downed Mississauga 4-2 with 2 goals by Stefan Della Rovere to knock out the Mississauga St. Micheal's Majors. Who with a strong young roster and a great year that saw them finish 3rd in the Regular Season and advance to the Conference Final. Expect them to be a major OHL & Memorial Cup Contender the next couple of seasons.

Moncton is on the verge of a QMJHL Championship Spot with a 4-0 win over Drummondville last night, while the Calgary Hitmen won 4-3 in Brandon to go up 3-1 in the WHL Eastern Conference Championship.

Could the Brandon Wheat Kings using a strategy that the Kelowna Rockets used to win the 2004 Memorial Cup when they hosted it that year. By getting eliminated in the Conference Final, then rest up to get ready for the Memorial Cup? Well find out in about a month when the Tournament gets underway.
