4/17 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

Just 3 NHL Playoff Games on Saturday with 2 of them getting to OT as the Washington Capitals & Montreal Canadians reached the extra frame for the 2nd time in the series.

In Game 1, it was Plekanec who put a shock in the Capitals in Game 1, Game 2 had Capitals Forward Nicklas Backstrom who had a hat trick in the Game, including the OT Winner just 30 seconds into the extra frame in a game that was back-and-fourth where it was 4-2 Canadians and they were looking to take a 2-0 shocking lead into Games 3 & 4 in Montreal.

However, Alexander Ovechkin started the comeback just 3 minutes into the 3rd period to make it 4-3. John Carlson and Nicklas Backstrom scored in the 3rd to make it 5-5 into the OT Period.

The OT Game came in Vancouver as the Canucks were looking to go up 2-0. However Kings superstar Anze Kopitar was the hero in Game 2 as the Kings were able to even up the series at 1-1 with the series heading to California.

A busy Saturday Night in the AHL Saw 7 games as all the series are starting to reach the midway point of the 1st Round as we say several big routs as the Hamilton Bulldogs put 8 up on the Manitoba Moose who used a 5 goal 2nd period to pull away. The Defending Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears put another big showing as a 7 goal showing to put the Bears up 3-0 and within 1 win of advancing to the East Division Final to most likely play the Albany River Rats who are up 3-0 against W-B/Scranton.

Rochester used a 4-1 win in New York to even up the series at 1-1 after Abbotsford won their first ever playoff game the previous night. Also the Texas Stars had goals from Fortunus, Lindgren and Sawada to put the Stars up 2-0 on Rockford.

One of the big stories in the road to the Memorial Cup is the Kitchener Rangers as they are up 2-0 on the Windsor Spitfires. Jeff Skinner has been a big reason as he had another 2 goal game in the 5-2 win which takes him to 4 goals in this series alone and 16 overall in the playoffs. Some interesting moments included both the Calgary Hitmen & Tri-City Americans both tieing the Conference Finals at 1-1 as we should expect some long series in the WHL. The QMJHL is on track for the 1st All Atlantic Region Final in League history as the St. John Seadogs took down the Victoriaville Tigers 5-1 in Game 2 of the QMJHL Semifinal.

In the U.S.A., the Traverse City North Stars, Bismarck Bobcats and Wenatchee Wild are all just 1 win away from winning their Division Titles and advancing to the Robertson Cup Tournament in Wenatchee, Washington. While the Topeka Roadrunners VS. St. Louis Bandits are tied at 1-1 with the series going at least 4 games with the 2 games on 4/23-24 with a possible game 5 back in Kansas on the 26 as that could act as the series and Division Title Decider.

The USHL saw the Fargo Force even up the West Division Final at 1-1 with a 4-2 win where Force Goals by Nate Condon, Matt Leitner & Corey Leivermann scored early & midway through the 3rd period to comeback after an Omaha Goal by Tim Craig put the Lancers up 1-0 early in the 2nd period. The Series shifts to North Dakota for Games 3 & 4 coming up on 4/23-24 with a possible Game 5 in Omaha on 4/27 where the Winner would advance to the USHL Clark Cup Final.
