It was another night of very tight and another major upset as the Montreal Canadians pulled off the 1st OT win of these playoffs as they were able to keep players like Alexander Ovechkin off the board while Canadians Goalie Jaroslav Halak was very good keeping the Capitals off the board by making 46 saves in the game despite getting out-shot 47-38 in the game as both of the #1 seeds are down 1-0 to Montreal & Colorado in the first couple of days of the playoffs.
The other major OT Game of the night was Vancouver taking down LA 3-2, Mikael Samuelsson scored twice including the OT Winner last night as the Canucks are looking to be the first Canadian Team to win the Stanley Cup since Montreal won it back in 1993.
The American Hockey League saw the Abbotsford Heat open the playoffs saw a huge night with all 3 Heat Goals coming in the first period with Keith Seabrook scoring twice in the first to make it a 3-1 lead. Despite an Americans goal by Mike York with 30 seconds left in the game, the comeback attempt came up short as the Heat takes the opening game on the road.
Elsewhere, Worcester almost went down 2-0 to the Lowell Devils, but an OT Goal in the final minute of the first OT by Vesce tied the series at 1-1 as the series shifts to Lowell, Mass. for Games 3 & 4. Also the Hamilton Bulldogs who many see as the Hershey Bear's biggest threat for the Calder Cup had a 2-0 shutout Win over the Manitoba Moose in Hamilton, On.
The Kitchener Rangers gave the Windsor Spitfires their first loss of the playoffs in a wild game 1 where Rangers forwards Jeff Skinner & Ryan Murphy each scored twice to comeback from a from a 3-1 deficit late in the first period to win 7-6 in OT. Windsor's Kenny Ryan also scored twice in the game as well.
