The Dallas Stars begin a 5 game road trip tonight with a West Coast trip to all 3 California teams (ANA Tonight, SJ on Friday and LA on Saturday). The Pacific Division is turning out to be one of the tightest divisions in the league this season with just 5 points separating the Phoenix Coyotes, Dallas Stars and the Los Angeles Kings.
This would be a great chance to close in and start to move up the Western Conference Standings which has them in 8th tied with the Nashville Predators and just 1 point ahead of the Red Wings going into tonight's action.
Tonight, they play an Anaheim team who's currently last in the Western Conference, but just 8 points back of 8th place right now. The Stars need to get it done tonight in Anaheim before the back to back in San Jose and Los Angeles as it's always hard to win back to back on the road. All 3 games would have them within striking distance of division leading San Jose having a tough week with LA, before playing the Stars on Friday night.
In the AHL, all 3 Texas Teams have busy schedules in the division. For Texas, it's the start of 6 of their next 8 at home with home contests against the Peoria Rivermen, and then a pair of games against Rockford on Friday and Saturday.
As the Texas Stars, continue to have a big lead in the division, the rest of the division is in a tight battle in the West as spots 3-6 are just 2 points apart. Rockford is in 2nd with 31 points, but can be easily pulled in to this battle with a couple of bad games.
The Aeros have games against the Peoria Rivermen on Friday night and the Rockford Icehogs on Saturday night. With the of the Texas Stars, just about anyone can be involved in this fight in the very tight West Division.
Even the San Antonio Rampage can get into this fight with a great run after the firing of coach Ireland, the Rampage are looking to improve after a dreadful month of November where they lost 7 of their 8 games in November.
So far in December, things have looked a bit better as they have won 2 of their 3 games in December. However, the Rampage begin a 4 game road trip up north to Grand Rapids and Milwaukee before coming back to Texas to play both Texas Teams (HOU on 12/16 and TEX on 12/18).
In the CHL, It's the 4th match up as the Dallas Teams face off, this time it's back to the NYTEX Sports Center after the two November matchups were in Allen. The Americans currently lead the series 2-1, however 2 of the 3 matchups have gone to OT with the other matchup being a 5-1 win for Allen on Veterans day back on November 11.
Other matchups include Corpus Christi where they look to move back up against South Texas Rival Laredo Bucks in Laredo tonight. Then on Friday night, it's a battle of cross Conference Contenders as the Tulsa Oilers travel to Allen to take on the Americans at the Allen Event Center.
Finally in the NAHL, just two weeks left till the Christmas break as the Texas Tornado and Wichita Falls Wildcats will faceoff in Frisco as the Tornado will look to get ahead of Springfield and close in St. Louis and Topeka in the South Division.
For Wichita Falls, after a rare success this season, the digging out will need to continue as the Wildcats are still 10 points back of Springfield and Texas who are tied for 3rd in the South Division.
