Texas Stars VS. Grand Rapids Griffins Summary

Last night was another first for the expansion Texas Stars as they played their first game against the North Division's Grand Rapids Griffins in a defensive showdown where the game was scoreless until the final minute and a half as rookie forward Sergei Korostin scored with just 1:33 left.

The first period was mostly a tight defensively game as both teams were starting to feel each other out. For the most part, it was a great battle between Griffins goaltender Thomas Mccollum and Texas Stars goalie Matt Climie where both teams had to make some very big saves on both ends. Some of the best were in the late 2nd and mid 3rd periods as the Grand Rapids Goalie was being able to keep the Griffins in the game late in the 2nd.

Finally, the Texas Stars were able to make some break through in the last 5 minutes when the line of Warren Peters, Tyler Shelast and Francis Wathier were able to get several shots including one that went off the post in the last few minutes.

Finally, with just 1:33 when Sergei Korostin got a great centering pass from Warren Peters to get the game winner. Then in the final seconds, Center Aaron Gagon scored his first of the season with an empty netter to clinch the 2-0 victory.

Upcoming Schedule for Texas

After a mostly road schedule during the first couple of weeks during the season, the Stars will play 4 of their next 5 at home. Coming up tomorrow night is a trip to Houston, it's 3 straight against the North Division as they will play a pair against the Lake Erie Monsters and their first ever game against a Canadian team as the Hamilton Bulldogs on October 24.
