Catching Up

A lot of interesting stories and news happened while I was away in Oklahoma and during the Labor Day Weekend. Lets take a look at what made headlines while I was away helping my grandmother.

Texas Stars & San Antonio Rampage create Youth Systems

Both the Texas Stars & San Antonio Rampage just before Labor Day announced that they were officially teaming up with their Area's Youth Hockey Associations to create their own Travel Teams. The goals of course is to increase number of players of all ages and to help build more ice rinks in their areas of the state.

Both teams will have 7 different age groups for both boys and girls that will compete against the teams across the state and hopefully that will add on into the region and possibly the nation in the near future.

I know they probably a long way off from areas like the Dallas Area where you have steady streams of players playing in different Junior Leagues and even teams in leagues like the Tier 1 Elite League but they has been some success recently with Erik Higby from New Braunfauls who was the NAHL Player of the Year and Scoring Champion last season and will start his college career at Northern Michigan (CCHA) this fall.

Here's the links to learn more.

The Central Hockey League is a part of the Professional Hockey Players Association (PHPA) agreed on a new Collecting Bargaining Deal that will take them through this year and next year to avoid the possibility of any kind of a lockout or strike for the near term.

This will also increase the number of veteran players each team will be allowed to have to 6. Of the 6, at least one has to play in the 2009-2010 season. It's officially described as a player that has played at least 301 Games in his career in the leagues that it officially is a part of it.

The Pipeline Show Expands

One of North America's Biggest Prospect Hockey Shows announced last night that it's expanding. On their season premier last night, the major announcement that the Pipeline Show is adding a 2nd weekly show expanding their coverage. In addition to the usual Tuesday Night Shows from 8-10 PM CDT (7-9 PM MDT), the 2nd show will take place on Saturday Mornings from 10 AM-Noon CDT (9-11 AM MDT).

On of the biggest reasons for the 2nd show is to bring you breaking news that broke throughout the week but prior to that, weren't able to report on the air and/or report it on their blog called "Coming Down the Pipe".

This show will continue the tradition of bringing the biggest news, news-makers and top players that play in the different Junior Leagues & the NCAA throughout the season. In addition to all that, they will be able to talk about the biggest games every weekend throughout the WHL, OHL, QMJHL, USHL, Canadian Jr. A's, the NCAA and the AHL.

In addition to adding the 2nd weekly show, they had the player that they think will go #1 in next year's NHL Draft. Last night that they had Drummondville Voltigeurs Center Sean Couturier was on the show last night talking about the start of the upcoming season and dealing with the hype of possibly being the #1 Pick next year.

The last 3 seasons The Pipeline Show has had the #1 Overall Pick on their Season Premier as they had Steven Stamkos (2008 to Tampa Bay), John Tavares (2009 to NY Islanders) and Taylor Hall (2010 to Edmonton).

Speaking of the 2011 NHL Draft, don't be surprised if Texas Native Colin Jacobs is a part of the show sometime this season as he will get ready for his 2nd WHL Season which will start on September 24 against the Everett Silvertips

Also involved were Minnesota Golden Gophers Head Coach Don Lucia, President of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Craig Cripps getting ready for the new season which begins on Friday, hosting an Outdoor Game and this year's RBC Cup which will be hosted by the Camrose Kodiaks. And Tampa Bay Lighting Prospect Brett Connolly who was selected 6th overall in the draft talks about his first taste of pro hockey as he is getting ready for Lightning Training Camp and looks to rebound after an injury plagued year with the Prince George Cougars (WHL).

"They Said It" with Allen Americans Head Coach Matt Mullins

Here's a look at what the Americans Head Coach had to say talking about a great first season which included a league championship trip, and the team's quest to win the team's first title.
