Despite most of the power being in the East & Atlantic Divisions in the QMJHL this year. The Drummondville Voltigeurs who are the defending QMJHL Champions have been been one of the best teams in the last part of the regular season by winning an amazing 16 in a row to end the regular season.
Even the they did they play some of the league weak links in teams like Val-dor and Lewiston, the Voltigeurs also beat the likes of Victoriaville, Quebec City and one of the league's biggest improvers in the P.E.I. Rockets the last part of the season. Expect the Voltigeurs to go deep again in the hopes of defending the QMJHL Title and have another shot at the Memorial Cup this season.
The other big time contender out of the West & Central could be the Victoriaville Tigers as for most of the year as the Tigers were neck-and-neck for the QMJHL Central Division Top Seed. The Tigers still won an impressive 46 games and have some great players Phillip-Michael Devos and Brandon Hynes to help the Tigers go deep this season. After getting sweeped by the Shawinigan Cataractes who got all the way to the QMJHL Final last year, look for the Tigers to have a big playoff run.
The Central Was known for having a very balanced Division, but no one really stood out as the Rouyn-Nornda Huskies won the West Division, they should be favored against the Val-dor Foures, but beyond that, I don't the see the Central Division getting very far this year.
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League uses a different Playoff Format then the WHL & OHL. The QMJHL starts out with the Divisional Format as the Series will play #1 VS. #4 & #2 VS. #3 as the playoffs get underway. Then starting in the 2nd Round as the Playoffs will reseeded and will go from #1 through #8 with the Divisional Champions getting Home Ice for the first 2 Rounds.
Here's the Standings for the Quarterfinals as the teams get reseeded.
1. St. John Seadogs 109 PTS, Atlantic Division Champions
2. Drummondville Voltigeurs 104 PTS, Central Division Champions
3. Quebec City Ramparts 89 PTS, East Division Champions
