Your feedback on the Dallas Stars and Team Social Media Websites

I would like to get your feedback on how the Dallas Stars will do this season. On the bottom of the webpage right now, I have my first poll question of the hockey season and it's all about how the Dallas Stars will do this season. Simply, will they win the Pacific Division, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or last in 5th place. I will be doing poll questions at different parts of the season on different topics on teams throughout the Southwest U.S.A.

Team and League Newsletters, Twitter and Facebook

A great way to follow the team is to sign for the team and league's official newsletter. For the Dallas Stars for instance, you can officially sign up for it at different team events when singing up for contest, special offers and so much more. This is a great way to get even more from you favorite teams and leagues. Just today for instance, I just signed up for the A.H.L. Newsletter and I will put the link for different teams. Also many teams, especially in minor leagues are using facebook, twitter and youtube to help promote their teams as well.

Here's some of the links to the different websites

Dallas Stars in the D/FW Media

With the Dallas Stars starting up the season this weekend. The Stars will start getting more media attention from around the D/FW Area. Here's a look at some of the shows and features to watch out for during the season

First, a show on FSN Southwest called Stars Insider will go behind the scenes of the team from practices to game highlights to behind the scenes features that you wouldn't probably see otherwise. This is something that they do for all the pro sports teams in the D/FW Area and will be a weekly show that will show you what is going on with the franchise. Be sure to check the local listings for the day and time in your area on when it will show.

On Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket coming up on Thursday night, the station will have a 2 hour special breaking down the upcoming season from the final roster, the schedule and a look at the new coaching under Marc Crawford and Joe Nieuwendyk.

Also, as the new radio home of the Dallas Stars, Bob Sturm and Dan Mcdowell will be doing a post game show after Every game this season and not just home games. Also for select games (Espically Home games) a pre game show will also be in the works.

Then during the games, look for Ralph Strangis and Darrell "Razor" Reaugh for the play by play of the games both on TV and on Sports radio 1310. Also on The Ticket, several weekly shows will be going on including Stars Captain Brendan Morrow with BAD Radio (12N-3PM) and Color Analyst Darrell Reaugh with the Musers (5:30 AM- 10:00AM) throughout the season.

In The Dallas Morning News, look for Mike Heika's stories on the team and for stuff throughout the NHL as the season goes on.

What should the Stars do with Fabian Brunnstrom?

One of the last big roster choices before the Stars revel the final roster for the season opener against Nashville on Saturday is what to do with Fabian Brunnstrom. The rookie who became a late bloomer in his career who went undrafted and spent the first few seasons of his pro career in his native Sweden certainly had great looks last year on offense by scoring 17 goals in 55 games last season. However, his defense has been suspect during his pro career and this could be the reason why the Stars could send him down to Austin to play for the Texas Stars this season.

In the NHL, once a player has released 60 games played in his career, he has clear waivers to send down to the minors, and with Jamie Benn clearly passing him by in both offense and defense during training camp and preseason this year.

Also, last year with the WHL's Kelowna Rockets, he scored an impressive 46 goals in just 56 games during the W.H.L. regular season, his game started to get much better over the course of last season.

Then during the playoffs, he led the entire league during the playoffs with 33 points (13 G, 20 A) by playing a huge part on both ends of the ice to help them win the W.H.L. Championship and making the final of the C.H.L. Memorial Cup. Included in the Memorial Cup Tournament was a 4 goal game against the Q.M.J.H.L. Champion Drummondville Voltigeurs during the round robin portion of the tournament.

With Jamie Benn and Fabian Brunnstrom both playing on the Left Wing, this will be a tough decision for fans, but for the Dallas Stars this should be an easy decision, because to make and succeed in the NHL, you need to play well on both sides of the ice consistently. This is something that Jamie Benn delivers while Fabian Brunnstrom is great some nights and struggles other nights on the defensive side of the puck.

Fabian Brunnstrom can use this time in the A.H.L. to work on his defense without being criticised and heckled as much from the media during the season, he should be one of the first choices to call up should major injuries or suspensions affect the team at any point during the season. I'm sorry Brunnstrom, but Benn is a much better player at all over the ice.

Jamie Benn might have been taken as a Junior A player for the British Colombia Hockey League (BCHL) Victoria Grizzlies at one point, but his upside a lot better then Brunnstrom and his confidence on the rink is a lot better to play for the Dallas Stars while Brunnstrom while start the season in Austin.

Area Player Watch

Here's an early season update on the players from the D/FW and how they doing.

Collin Jacobs: For the Seattle Thunderbirds, the team has been off to a slow start this season as the Thunderbirds are currently in last place in the W.H.L.'s Western Conference with a record of just 1-4-0 and have scored just 8 goals so far. For Jacobs, he's currently leading the team in scoring with 4 points (2G 2A) as he both goals during the opening weekend against the Everett Silvertips and the Vancouver Giants.

Unfortunately, the team defense isn't going over too well as no one has a positive +/- ranking right now. He may be among the team leaders in scoring for the T-Birds this season, but if the defense doesn't turn around, it may be a long season for the Thunderbirds this season.

Upcoming Seattle Thunderbirds Games

10/2: VS. Tri-City Americans

10/10: @ Spokane Chiefs

10/11: VS. Tri-City Americans

10/13: VS. Prince Albert Raiders

10/16: @ Everett Silvertips

Nick Lazorko: The Winkler Flyers had some big expectations when the season starting, but the Flyers have been off to a slow start this season at just 2-5-0 and is currently in 5th Place in the Addison Division. Lazorko has been off to a good start as he is tied for the team lead for scoring with 7 points (3G 4A) in the 7 games so far with goals in 3 different games.

If Winkler is going to turn this slow start around, they will need to improve their defense which includes games recently where they gave up 8 goals in a recent game against the Swan Valley Stampders where they lost 8-3.

It's starting to look like the 2 Winnipeg teams will be the teams to beat in the MJHL's Addison Division this season as the Winnipeg Saints and the Winnipeg South Blues are off to great starts this season.

Upcoming Winkler Flyers Games

9/29: VS. Winnipeg Saints

10/2: VS. Portage Terriers

10/4: VS. Winnipeg South Blues

10/9: @ Dauphin Kings (MJHL Showcase)

It's offical: the Duncanville Starcenter will close

As you may know in the D/FW Area, there's been a lot of news in the last few months about the possibility of the Dr. Pepper Starcenter closing and being converted to a Basketball and Volleyball center run by legendary coach Bob Knight. Well today, that fear became official as the Dallas Stars and the city of Duncanville completed a termination agreement worth $2 Million dollars to paid out in 2 payments of $1 Million dollars over the next 2 years.

This is not surprising as this started earlier this year in the spring when Duncanville City Manager publicly criticized the team about not promoting the team and the Duncanville Starcenter not being promoted in the city very well.

Another reason that I think that the Duncanville Starcenter didn't do very well compared to the others is that it was in a bad location in the area where it was very hard to find and wasn't in the best of neighborhood.

Duncanville's Starcenter is located on South Main Street and it's in an area where not much surrounds it which made it very hard to people who wanted to the Starcenter very hard to find it. The trouble started at the beginning of the year when the Starcenter reduced the ice rink to 1 sheet of ice and pretty much eliminated the selection of hockey player and figure skating equipment to reduce cost.

The then remarks by the Duncanville City Manager made this feud one that didn't have a great shot of coming up with an agreement to reduce the amount of the rent that the Stars would pay to use the ice rink.

Here's a message from the vice president of the Dr. Pepper Starcenters Ed Reusch:
www.drpepperstarcenter.com/default.asp?strRinkName=Duncanville&strNews=dvnews

As for the building future plans, it's been confirmed that a company helped found and run by Basketball legend Bob Knight is going to turn the place into a Basketball and Volleyball arena that's expected to open in the spring of 2010. The Starcenter's last day of operation will be October 1.

More C.H.L. Players at A.H.L. Training Camps

Another Texas team in the Central Hockey League has had some success in getting players to AHL Training Camps right now. This time, it's the Corpus Christi Icerayz have sent an impressive 4 players to different training camps. For the Rays, the big name is rookie goaltender Kevin Desfosses who is currently in the Texas Stars Training Camp while last year's starter Kris Tebbs is currently in Worcester, Massachusetts with the Worcester Sharks which is the San Jose Sharks affiliate.

For the other position's, 2 forwards have gotten invites as Maxime Boisclair is heading not to far from Corpus Christi as he is with last year's Western Conference Semifinalist Houston Aeros while fellow line mate Jereme Tendler is with the Rockford Icehogs which is the Chicago Blackhawks affiliate.

After a rocky summer of 2008 where the fate of the team was uncertain due to ownership and GM Problems. Tim Lange bought the team to keep them in Corpus Christi and their home arena, which is the American Bank Center.

Last season, the Icerayz were in a strong battle with the New Mexico Scorpions and the Arizona Sundogs battling for the final playoff spots in the Southern Conference. After having a respectable 28-30-6 finishing with 62 points and despite finishing 4th in the Southeast Division, it was enough to beat off both teams for the 5th and final playoff spot in the South before losing to South Texas rival Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the 3 game Play In Round Series.

In recent years, they had some success as the 2006-2007 season was their most successful where they finished 3rd in the Southern Conference before losing in the Conference Semifinals before losing to the Laredo Bucks.

With all the signings of players like getting Maxime Boisclair from Bossier-Shreveport and resigning Jason Tessier, Corpus Christi will be looking to have a much better 2009-2010 and be able to contend with teams like the defending league champion Texas Brahmas and South Texas Rivals Laredo Bucks this season.

AT&T Metroplex HS Hockey Divisions and Opening week Schedule.

The Divisions for the AT&T Metroplex HS Hockey season is now out and the teams in the Varsity Gold Division has been reduced from 13 to 10 this season. Among the teams dropping to the Silver Division is Flower Mound Marcus who made the League Semifinals before losing to the eventually league Champions Flower Mound Jaguars last spring.

On the con tray, no decided to move up from Silver to Gold including Arlington Martin and Bishop Lynch who played each other for the Silver Division title after finishing 1 and 2 in the regular season last year. The Silver division is going to have 17 teams divided into 3 divisions while the 10 teams in the Gold Tier will be in a single division this season.

5 Brahmas Players getting invites to AHL Camps

A Texas Brahmas record 5 players have gotten invites to different training camps in the American Hockey League just a few months after the Brahmas beat the Colorado Eagles in 5 games for the C.H.L. Presidents Cup Championship back in May. Several players including goalie Brett Jeager, Jason Deitsch who got a call up by the Houston Aeros and Kyle Deck who got a call up by the San Antonio Rampage.

Other players getting a call up are Forward Ryan Cruthers who's with the Chicago Wolves, while 3 players are going to the Justin Kinnunen, Derek Merlini and Brett Jeager who's going to Houston.

This is not surprising that coming from a team that had great talent that helped the Brahmas dominate the entire season where they finish on top of the Southern Conference with 42 wins and 90 points. Then in the playoffs, they just crushed their opponents at home by losing only 1 home game during the playoffs against the Odessa Jackalopes.

On the road to the President's Cup, the Brahmas seeped the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in the Southern Conference Semifinals, Odessa in 7 games in the Southern Conference Final and beat the Colorado Eagles in 5 games for the C.H.L Championships.

Even though, all 5 players will most likely come back and play nearly full time for the Brahmas this season, I think that Jason Deitsch and Brett Jeager may be the ones that have the best shots of getting call ups during the season. As for Jason Deitsch, some think that if he can impress the Chicago Wolves staff, he may have a shot of getting a full time spot in the A.H.L.

The Brahmas are excited to have these players get some great experience that can only help the team have a shot of helping to possibly have a shot of defending the C.H.L. Presidents Cup Title in 2009-2010 when the regular season starts on October 16 when they start on the road against the Colorado Eagles.

North American Hockey League Scores 9/25-27

A weekend after the showcase, many teams will play weekend series within the division. This league more than any other have the fewest games during the week where nearly every game is played during the weekend in the early part of the season.
