San Antonio splits games in Charlotte with 2-1 loss

A strong 45 save performance wasn't enough to help the Rampage get a sweep out of the Charlotte Checkers as the Rampage exit North Carolina with a split of the Mid-West Division Leading Charlotte as both sides goalies were strong in this one. In addition to Grument-Morris' 45 saves, Charlotte Checkers Goalie John Muse was neck-and-neck in this great goaltender's duo.

After the Rampage were able to leave with a split in the 2 game series, the Rampage are still 3 points back of 8th Place Chicago thanks to a 3-2 Lake Erie Loss to the Conference Leading Oklahoma City Barons. It's back home to begin a stretch where 8 of their next 10 games will be at the AT&T Center on Friday 1/6 against the Texas Stars.

From Charlotte, North Carolina: San Antonio Rampage Goaltender Dov Gourment-Morris made a season high 45 saves in San Antonio's 2-1 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at the Time Warner Cable Arena on Wednesday Night.

The Checkers scored the games first goal at 16:34 of the opening period when right wing Jermone Samson fired a shot on the San Antonio net, picked up his own rebound, and backhanded the puck past Grument-Morris to give Charlotte a 1-0 lead. Forwards Brett Sutter & Riley Nash tailed the assists on Samson's 15th marker of the season.

Nash extended the Checkers lead to 2-0 with a power play goal 2:25 into the third frame. He got his stick on Michal Jordan shot from the blue line to deflect the puck by Grument-Morris for his third goal of the year and second power play point of the net. Defensemen Derek Johnson notched the secondary helper on the play.

The Rampage scored with just over a minute remaining in the game to make the count 2-1. A centering feed from the left wing Evan Barlow went off forward David Marshall and eluded Checkers Backstop John Muse before going over the goal line. Left wing Evgeni Dadonov also registered an assist, his fifth of the year, on the Marshal goal.

Muse turned aside 42 of 43 Rampage shots he faced for his second win of the 2nd while Grument-Morris denied the Checkers on 45 of 47 shooting attempts.

San Antonio (16-16-2) returns home for a 7 PM (CST) contest at the AT&T Center on Friday Night against their In-State Rivals, the Texas Stars.
