Here's a look at the current Group Stage Standings during the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Men's Format: The 12 teams are divided into 3 groups of 4 to start the Tournament. After the Group Stage ends, the standings will use both the points and the Goals Against to rank the teams 1-12 where the top 4 (3 Group Winners, Best 2nd Place Team) will gain automatic entry into the Quarterfinals. Then the teams will be seeded 5-12 to determine the 2nd round matchups (5 VS. 12, 6 VS. 11, 7 VS. 10, 8 VS. 9) to start the knockout rounds. After the 2nd Round, the lowest seeded 2nd round winner will face the top seed, the 2nd seed will play the #7 and so on till we reach the Medal Round.
Women's Format: The 8 Teams will be in 2 groups of 4 where the top 2 will advance to the Semifinals where the Groups will cross over (1A VS. 2B, 1B VS. 2A) for the Semifinals. For the 3rd and 4th Place Teams (3A VS. 4B, 3B VS. 4A). Then the winners will advance to play for 5th place, while the losers will play for 7th. As for the Semifinals, the winners will advance to the Gold Medal Game, while the Losers will play for the Bronze Medal Round.
OT Rules: For both the Men's and Women's Tournaments, the Group Stage. Then starting in the Knockout Rounds will extend to 10 MIN. Finally ending with the Medal Rounds going to be full 20 MIN Periods. All Rounds will have the SO will be used if needed.
Points in the Standings: All Games will use the 3 Point Format.
3 Points for a relegation Win, 2 Points for an OT Win, 1 Point for an OT Loss, 0 Points for a Regulation Loss. The Final Number in the Men's Standings is the Ranking for the Knockout Rounds.
