Here's a look at this weeks rankings in the Canadian Hockey Leagues, the Canadian Junior Hockey Leagues and the NCAA as we are about a month into the Junior Seasons, and just a couple of weeks into the NCAA Hockey Season.

League Rankings as of 1/25

Here's a look at league rankings for the Major Junior, Canadian Junior A and NCAA Rankings as we reach the playoff and tournament runs are starting to get into high gear.

Major Junior

The St. John Seadogs have used their amazing 38-7-1 mark as the best record in the QMJHHL and with a 22 game winning streak earlier this season have put the Seadogs on a blistering pace to finish as the best team in the regular season and the top team when the QMJHL Playoffs begin in March. Just below them are the OHL Power Houses Windsor Spitfires and Barrie Colts who are the tops in the Eastern and Western Conference as the Barrie Colts for the first time this year have leap froged the defending OHL & Memorial Cup Champion Spitfires and could be on a crash course for the OHL Championship in the spring.

With both teams having big leads in their respective conferences will make it tough for teams like the Mississauga St. Micheal's Majors and the Kitchener Rangers to catch up.

The top team out west is the Tri-City Americans who are widing their gap in the Western Hockey League and will be racing with teams like the Saskatoon Blades to catch the top spot and having home ice advantage throughout the entire playoffs in the Western Hockey League. Saskatoon and Victoriaville both jumped up a couple of spots as the main contenders for home ice advantage to challenge St. John and Tri-City in their respective leagues.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs have allowed the Tigers take the top spot in the QMJHL Central Division and that will most likely be the best Division Race in the QMJHL and could be the best in the entire major junior.

Other big division races to watch for is the Central Division in the WHL between Kootenay, Calgary and Medicine Hat. Also the Midwest Division in the OHL between the London Knights and the Kitchener Rangers which will most likely bee for the 2nd seed in the Western Conference.

At the tail end of the rankings is the Brandon Wheat Kings have jumped up from 10 to 9 while the London Knights contending for the Midwest Division Title has them up into the 10th and final spot in the rankings. As for this weeks Honorable Mentions, they are the Moncton Wildcats, Medicine Hat Tigers who was 9th in last weeks rankings and the Kitchener Rangers.

Canadian Junior A Rankings

The top 3 on this rankings have been unchanged, Alberta Power Spruce Groove contuines to run away with the North Division with a 15 point lead with 12 games left in the season. Players like Nate Fleming and Jason Lazowski are looking to be the big time favorites to win the AJHL Championship and be a big time contenders like the Vernon Vipers and Pentiction Vees when the teams reach the RBC Cup National Championship in Dauphin, Manitoba (Home of the Dauphin Kings).

Elsewhere in the top 5 is the Kingston Voyageurs and the Grande Prairie Storm round out the top 5 as the main leagues that could have the best shot to produce this year's RBC Cup National Tournament is the BCHL, AJHL and the OJAHL as 2 teams from each of these 3 leagues make up the top 6.

Manitoba's top team during the year is this year's RBC Cup National Tournament host Dauphin Kings at #7. Being the national hosts, the Kings were looking to be a big time contender and having a shot to win on home soil, Dauphin is currently in a 16 point lead in the Sherwood Division and should be the #1 seed in the MJHL Playoffs.

The Kings also have 3 of the top 5 scores in the league in Ryan Dreger (84 PTS), Shane Luke (77 PTS), and Bryce Lamb (76 PTS) have been leading the way in Manitoba all year long.

Toping out the top 10 is the Alberni Valley Bulldogs (BCHL), the top Maritime Junior League team in the Woodstock Slammers (MJAHL) and the Central Jr. A Leagues (Brockville Braves).

No major Jumpers and fallers this week as teams like Georgetown and Westside all jumped a spot this week will the rest of the spots were kept near the same this week. The bottom 5 Ft. Mcmuarry, Weyburn, Flin Foln, Burlington, and Abitibi all rounded out the top 20 this week.

NCAA Rankings

After losing the top ranking for the 1st time this season, the Miami of Ohio Redhawks have gotten the top spot back as a battle with Michigan State for the top spot of the CCHA. Other's getting votes this week is Wisconsin and Denver who are the top 2 teams in the WCHA as that conference has been among the best in the country this season. Rounding out the top 5 are North Dakota and St. Cloud State who has risen 7 spots from #12 to #5 this week.

The other big jumper is Bemidji State after an impressive weekend sweep of WCHA power Minn-Duluth where the Beavers won on both home and away ice to move up from #14 to #7 this week.

Rounding out the top 10 is Cornell, Minnesota Duluth who lossed two big games to Bemidji State has dropped 5 spots from #4 to #9 while Ferris State rounds out the #10 this week.

The bottom half of the top 20 has a number of Hockey East Teams every spot from #13 to #17 as the Hockey East Conference has been very balanced this year as New Hampshire has a 5 point lead over U-MASS and Boston College who are tied for 2nd with 20 points while Mass-Lowell and Maine are 2 and 3 points back of the Boston College and U-Mass who are tied for 2nd in the Hockey East Conference.

The final few spots in this weeks top 20 is Union which fell 5 spots from #13 to #18, Maine jumped up 1 spot to #19 while one new team in Michigan who's been having a down season right now, but has been against some weak competition against the likes of Michigan Tech, Ferris State and Alaska-Fairbanks who's only in 5th in the CCHA right now.

This Weeks Junior and College Rankings: 12/6

Major Junior

The Windsor Spitfires contuine to be the #1 team in the Major Junior Rankings, but the St. John Seadogs with the 20 game winning streak and the 1 team overall in the QMJHL, they are catching up quickly and could have the pontentital to overtake them when the new rankings come on Wednesday. Barrie is currently in 3rd with them leading the OHL Eastern Conference with the Saskatoon Blades in 4th.

The defending QMJHL Champion Drummondville Voltigeurs are currently in 5th, but the Victoriaville Tigers who are just 2 points back of the Voltigeurs in the QMJHL Central Division which sit in 7th right now with the Mississauga St. Micheals Majors in between the Central Division Powers in 6t.

2 WHL Teams in the Calgary Hitmen and the Tri-City Americans are in 8th and 9th with the Quebec City Ramparts rounding out the #10 this week. Finally, this weeks Honorable Mentions are the Kitchener Rangers, Vancouver Giants and Rouyn-Nornda Huskies.

The top 6 remained unchanged this week as the Vernon Vipers remained the top team right now as the top teams contuined their top form. You have to look at #7 with the Cornwall Colts moving up 2 spots Georgetown and Woodstock have moved up 1 spot to #8 and #9, rounding out the top 10 this week is the AJHL's Grande Prairie Storm moved up 2 spots to #10.

Not many big jumpers this week as the Westside Warriors and Alberni Valley Bulldogs were honorable Mentions have jumped up to #17 and #18. As for the big fallers, we had the Oakville Blades and the Ft. Mcmurray Oil Barons have dropped 3 spots each this week.

NCAA

After Miami of Ohio were cutting it close with the #1 ranking, they are back up by getting 36 of the 50 first place votes which got them to the lead. However, The University of Denver having a 2 point lead in the WCHA over in state rival Colorado College has them up to #2 in the national rankings. Despite having a 1-1 week and a loss in OT to Minn.-Duluth, the Fighting Sioux still have the #3 ranking.

But a surging Bemidji State Team who is #4 and with having a huge win over Miami of Ohio in the Holiday Classic over Thanksgiving weekend, they have convinced a lot of people, including my self that they are for real and a serious contender for the National Title this season.

Cornell who despite being 2nd in the ECAC is up to #5 after Quinnipiac suffered their first Conference Losses of the season over Brown and Yale who moved up to 4th in the ECAC. This week, Yale, Mass.-Lowell and Boston College who moved up 5 spots from #15 to #10 this week.

Just outside the top 10, Wisconsin and Ferris State made some big moves up 4 and 5 spots to #11 and #13 after strong weeks this week. As for the big fallers this week, U-Mass has dropped 6 spots from #9 to #15 while Alaska has dropped 4 spots from #12 to #16 this week after a brutal week with a loss and tie to Western Michigan. I

n all, Alaska is winless in 5 of its last 6 games. We also have 2 new teams this week as New Hampshire and Union have jumped into the rankings at #19 and #20 this week.

This Weeks Rankings: 11/30

As we get passed Thanksgiving, the rankings for the Major Junior and NCAA as we start to get near the midway point of the Major Junior and Junior A seasons. Currently, the Windsor Spitfires are the top team in the Major Junior Rankings at a 21-3-3 record and have been in the top for basically the entire season so far, while the St. John Seadogs unreal winning streak has them on top of the QMJHL and are at #2 right now.

Overall the top 5 haven't changed much over the last couple of weeks. While the bottom part of the top 10 has seen a few changes so far where no team has jumped and fell more then 2 places in recent weeks. What this is telling me is that the Major Junior Leagues have been top heavy so far this season and the teams that are in the rankings are the ones that you could see for the most part to challenge for the Memorial Cup this season.

Canadiean Junior A Rankings

The top 2 teams right now in the Vernon Vipers and Spruce Grove Saints remain in the top 2 spots as the AJHL contuines to be among one of the strongest leagues in the rankings right now with several spots right now. Dauphin from the Manitoba League and the Kingston from the OJAHL switched the #3 and #4 spots while the Penticton Vees round out the top 5 this week.

The rest of the top 10 has the Pembrooke Lumber Kings have moved up a spot while the Georgetown Raiders drop 2 spots to #7. Rounding out the top 10 are the Oakville Blades, Cornwall Colts and the Woodstock Slammers who are slowly moving up the rankings at #10 this week.

The biggest jumper this week is the Flin Foln Bombers who are at #14 after being an Honorable Mentions the last couple of weeks. As for this weeks big faller is the Camrose Kodiaks who fell 7 spots to #17 while the Surrey Eagles have dropped 5 spots to #18 after being at #13 last week. As for the Honorable Mentions, the BCHL have 2 teams have the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Westside Warriors.

NCAA Rankings

After a rare rocky week, Miami of Ohio lead as the top team in the country is starting to shrink big time. Right now, just 11 points seperate the Redhawks from the 2nd seeded Denver Pioneers as for the first time this season, a team other then Miami of Ohio has gotten double digit first place votes with 14 right now. North Dakota and Quinnipiac both got 7 first place votes, and then a win over top ranked Miami of Ohio in the Holiday Classic have got them up to 5th.

As for the top 10, Colorado College is fighting it out with Denver for the top spot in the WCHA. Cornell, Mass.-Lowell, U-Mass and Yale have rounded out the top 10 this week in the rankings.

Not many big jumpers or big fallers this week. Mass-Lowell dropped 5 spots from #3 to #8 after a rough week after losses to Providence and Maine this week in Hockey East. As for new teams, St. Cloud State has jumped into the rankings at #20 while Colgate fell out after having the week off. Colgate dosen't hit the ice again until December 4 when they play on the road against Union and Rensselaer this week.

Major Junior

Currently, the defending Memorial Cup Champions Windsor Spitfires are on top of the Rankings as the Spitfires currently lead the OHL Western Conference and have the best overall record in the Ontario Hockey League.

Helping them out is a current 8 game winning streak where they have scored 44 goals during that time including a 7-1 win over the Sarnia Sting on 11/20 and a 11-3 win over the Guelph Storm on 11/22. Windsor currently is looking ahead to a showdown on what could be a fight of the leagues best teams as they will play the Mississauga St. Micheals Majors on December 11.

Elsewhere in the rankings right now is the St. John Seadogs and Saskatoon Blades as they have the best records in the WHL and QMJHL right now. I would give the edge to St. John as they are pulling away in the Atlantic Division right now. The West Division Leader in Drummondville is in #4 while the Barrie Colts who are fighting it out with Mississauga for the top spot out east who are currently in #5.

Out West, Tri-City and Calgary have been sliping a little bit despite being in big fights for the Conference Lead in the Western Hockey League. Rounding out the #10 right now include the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors who are #8 but should move up as the Majors lead the Eastern Conference and have won 8 of their last 10.

Canadien Jr. A Rankings

The top 3 in the Jr. A Rankings have remained unchanged as the Vernon Vipers, the Spruce Grove Saints and the Kingston Voyageurs have kept the top 3 spots as these teams contuine their domination in British Columbia, Alberta and Southern Ontario.

Spots 4 through 6 saw some changes as the Dauphin Kings from Manitoba jumped up 2 spots to #4 while the Georgetown Raiders and Penticton Vees both dropped a spot to #5 and #6, as for the rest of the top 10, Pembrooke, Oakville, Weyburn and Camrose have rounded out the #10 for this week.

Elsewhere, this weeks big jumpers are the Ft. Mcmurray Oil Barons have jumped up to #15 after being unranked for a majority of the season so far. NCAA Rankings

Miami of Ohio contuines to reign supreme in the College Hockey Rankings as they got 37 of the 50 votes on the USCHO poll for this week. However, the gap may be closing a little bit as their first loss of the season to Michigan State in a 3-2 OTL back on October 24 plus 4 ties including 3 of their last 4 which were against Ferris State twice and in their last game against Western Michigan this past weekend.

Elsewhere in the poll, the Denver Pioneers are starting to close in at the #2 spot where 9 first place votes and leading WCHA has got them building momentum as they are just below 60 points of Miami of Ohio in the Poll. Mass-Lowell and Bemidji State have gotten the other first place votes with 2 each as Mass-Lowell is in 3rd in Hockey East, but just 1 point back of Boston College and New Hampshire who are tied for 1st in the Conference.

Bemidji State is 10-1-1, but being in the 4 team CHA Conference will contuine to hurt them in the rankings and most likely in the NCAA Tournament in the Spring when the seedings come out as they are heavy favorites to win the Conference.

However, with Beavers switching to the WCHA next year will help this team a lot in the future in both recurting and having an imiage of them where they could have a shot of contending for a national title one day in the near future.

ECAC Leaders Quinnipiac has jumped into the top 10 at #9 after being in #13 last week, with a 10-1-0 record and a strong weekend with wins over Colgate and Cornell who are 2nd and 3rd in the ECAC, Quinnipiac have shown the country that they can be a big contender both in the Conference and in the entire country.

Some of the weeks big jumpers include Minnesota Duluth who jumped up 6 spots to #14 after being at #14 where at 9-4-1. Also we have 2 new teams into the rankings at Ferris State going to #17 while the Colgate Raiders round out the rankings at #20, after a slow start for the Raiders which includes 4 ties, a strong start in ECAC play as they are 4-1-1 in the Conference and are currently 2nd right now.

This weeks big faller is Nebraska-Omaha where a 7 spot drop has the Mavericks at #19 after being at #12 last week where some big CCHA loses to Northern Michigan who's currently 7th in the Conference have hurt them recently.

Thanks to a surge in the OHL Standings by pulling away even more in the Western Conference, Defending Memorial Cup Champions have regained the #1 spot while last weeks #1 Drummondville have dropped 3 spots to #4, St. John and Saskatoon were the big benefiaciars as the Seadogs on an unbeaten streak that goes back through late October has them up to #2 while the Blades are up 3 spots up to #3 as the Blades currently have the best record out west.

This weeks other big jumper is the Barrie Colts as the Colts and Majors are battaling for the top spot out east. Heading their way down this week is the Kitchener Rangers as the Rangers dropped from #5 to #9. Overall, no one dropped out this week of the rankings this week. Despite losing in OT this week, Miami of Ohio has basically been untoched in the rankings as the gap is slowly starting to close as the gap between Miami of Ohio and 2nd place North Dakota is now only at 70 points at top despite North Dakota only getting 2 first place votes. Just below the top 5 is 2 big jumpers as the Michigan State Spartans jumped an impressive 7 spots from 13 to 6 and also getting a first place vote, just below them in 7th is the Colorado College who have jumped up 3 spots from #10 and being the leaders in the WCHA.

Despite playing in the 4 team CHA Conference and expected to win that conference by a wide margin, it's 8-1-1 record has them in 8th after falling a spot from #7. Near the middle of the rankings is Yale and U-Mass who both jumped up 3 spots to #9 from #12 despite only playing 5 games. Yale has several big non Conference games coming up as they will be playing Hockey East Leaders U-Mass later this week.

Quinnipiac had a very strong week as they lead the ECAC and helped them jump 7 spots from #20 to #13 while Wisconsin are the newest team in the rankings as they went from unranked to #15. Michigan took a huge dive #16 which dropped a whoping 10 spots after despite a split with in state rival Michigan State.

Vermont, Providence, Boston College and Minnesota Duluth round out the rankings. Boston University has clearly been the big disappoiment so far this season as the defending national champions are currently 9th in Hockey East at just 2-5-0 in the Conference and 3-6-0 overall this season.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs remain in the top spot as the first time this season, the Voltigeurs have been able to keep the top spot for back to back weeks as the Voltiguers are at 18-3-1 record. At #2, the Windsor Spitfires have jumped up 2 spots from #4 to #2. For the WHL, the Tri-City Americans are the top ranked WHL Team at #3 with a 15-3-0 record as they in a battle with Vancouver and Portland for the top spot for the Western Conference.

After a couple of weeks of skecptimism, the St. John Seadogs are starting to win over the voters as they are up to #4 as the Seadogs are starting to run away with the Atlantic Division. This weeks big faller is the Kitchener Rangers as the team fell 3 spots to #5 while the Calgary Hitmen dropped 4 spots to #7. Canadien Junior A Rankings

Some changes a foot at the top 5 of the rankings as all 5 teams have swicted postions. This week, the Spruce Grove Saints have reaclaimed the top spot with a strong week with a jump from the Kingston Voyaguers dropped 3 spots to #4. The BC Pair of the Vernon Vipers and the Penticton Vees are currently #2 and #3. As for the Dauphin Kings from Manitoba, dropping 2 spots to #5 despite a win over the 2 time defending champion Portage Terriers.

Not many big climbers this week, even though several teams climbed up 1 spot including the Pembrooke Lumber Kings, Surrey Eagles and the Oakville Blades who climbed 2 spots from 12 to 10. The big loser this week was the Grande Prairie Storm who dropped 5 spots from #9 to #14. We also have one new team in the rankings as the Burlington Cougars have jumped up to #17 after being an honorable mention last week.

NCAA Rankings

What is it going to take to down Miami of Ohio? They are just controling the rankings by nearly sweeping all the 1st place votes by getting 49 of the 50 first place votes on this weeks poll with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux getting the other first place vote. Mass.-Lowell with a big win over New Hampshire yestrday helped them move up 3 places from #8 to #5, other teams on the way up include the University of Alaska getting into the top 10 up to 9 while the Bemijdi State Beavers up 4 spots from #11 to #7 with a strong 7-0-1 record despite playing the in the CHA which only has 4 teams.

Further down the list as Michigan State moved up 4 spots from #17 to #13 and the big mover of the week is U-Mass which is proving to the be the big early surprize in Hockey East as they sit 2nd just 1 point behind Conference Leading U-Mass Lowell.

This weeks big fallers is Boston University where they fell 10 spots from from #7 to #17 after a bad week with loses to Maine and Northeastern this week and currently sit last in the Hockey East Standings. However, all the teams in Hockey East have played only 3 to 5 games within the Conference in the young season.

Here's the latest power rankings by Fox Sports for the NHL. The New Jersey Devils are the #1 after climbing an impressive 6 spots from #1 thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins falling from #1 to #4 while the San Jose Shraks are up to #2 as the Sharks currently lead the Pacific Division. As for the other Pacific Teams, include the LA Kings are at #9, the Phoenix Coyotes at #13 just below the Stars, the Ducks contuine to strugle at #25.

The Drummondville Voltigeurs have returned to the top spot in the poll which replaces the Calgary Hitmen have dropped to #3 while the Kitchener Rangers have jumped up 2 spots to #2. After a strong winning streak, it's surprising that the St. John Seadogs are only up to #6.

3 new teams are on the rankings as the Saskatoon Blades, Quebec City Ramparts and the Barrie Colts are back on the list while the Gatineau Olympiques round the list by dropping 4 spots to 10. This weeks honorable mentions go to the Mississauga St. Michaels Majors, Vancouver Giants, and the Moncton Wildcats.

Canadian Junior A Rankings

Recently, the CJHL have announced that the ranking would expand from the top 15 to the top 20 and this was the first week they have done that. Kingston and Spruce Groove continue to top the rankings put a gap between them and everyone else. However, slowly climbing up is the Dauphin Kings who are up to 3 while the BC duo of Vernon and Penticton are 4 and 5.

This weeks biggest jumpers were in the middle of the pack as the Grande Prairie Storm (AJHL), Surrey Eagles (BCHL) and the Camrose Kodiaks have roared up the rankings. from either being off the board or being Honorable Mentions last week. Wellington and Cornwall have also jumped up from being honorable mentions to land at 14 and 16. This big faller was the Abitibi Eskimos (NOJHL) where they fell 6 spots from 13 to 19.

The new rankings for the CHL came out today and the Calgary Hitmen for the 2nd straight week as they will hold on the #1 rankings. For the biggest jumper, it was the Drummondville Voltigeurs who jumped from #5 to #2 while the London Knights jumped 4 spots where they now at #6 after being at #10 last week. Also we have 3 new teams up in the polls now as the Kitchener Rangers at 7, Vancouver Giants at 8 and the Rouyn-Nornda Huskies at 10 round out this weeks poll.

In the CJHL Rankings, the Spruce Groove Saints have moved up as the new #1, after being dominated by BCHL Teams the first month of the season. The Vernon Vipers drop to #3 while the Penticton Vees are currently in 4th. As for the biggest drop, the AJHL'S Brooks Bandits have dropped from 6 to 10 which helps the Bonnyville Pontiacs (AJHL) move up 5 spots and the Georgetown Raiders (OJAHL) moved up 3 spots. The newest team to jump up is the Abitibi Eskimos (NOJHL) at #13.

After the first week of NCAA Games, the Redhawks from the Miami of Ohio are the new #1 in the country after winning both of their games at St. Cloud State with 28 first place votes. 4 teams have entered the rankings as Bemijdi State, Mass.-Lowell, Nebraska-Omaha and Alaska are now in ranked 15-19. Denver who was the #1 during the preseason is now down to 3, Vermont was able to move up 3 places to 11 and St. Cloud State dropped from 15 to 19 in the rankings.
