Hershey uses no mercy to win Calder Cup Championship

There was no doubt Hershey's night to shine when Hershey out-shot the Stars 17-4 in the first period with John Carlson and Karl Alnzer scored in just over a minute and a half to make it a 2-0 lead and the Bears had a ton of momentum after winning 3 in a row in Austin to eventually lead 3-2 and go on to win 4-0 in Game 6 in Hershey, Pennsylvania to win the Calder Cup for the 2nd straight year and the 3rd in the last 5 seasons.

Other goal scorers for the Bears was defensemen Patrick McNeil who scored twice after scoring just once during the entire playoffs. One of the few highlights for Texas was Brent Krahn coming back to play for the first time since his injury. But with the score and the fact that Hershey was on their way to the Championship meant little as the Stars offense couldn't generate any offense on Bears goalie Michal Neuvirth all night long.

As much I hate to do this, congrats to the Hershey Bears on their 2nd straight Championship, they totally earned this one. From the 60 win regular season to Alexander Giroux & Chris Bourque combining for 54 points (Giroux 14G 13A), Chris Bourque (7G 20A).

Everything they did made you think that they were the favorites to win the Calder Cup and they did just that even after coming back from 0-2 down after the first two games.

Also the defense smothering Jamie Benn after scoring 24 points in the first 3 rounds, the Bears defense limited the Stars rookie to 2 assists in the Finals and made a huge difference in winning the championship.

This is an amazing org all the through. From the league leading 11th championship to averaging over 9500 fans a game during the regular season to the way they do everything. They may be an AHL Team, but trust me, they operate like an NHL Team in every possible way.

For the Texas Stars though, what an amazing year to build on to send a message to the American Hockey League that the Stars intend to be a real player in the league. Don't worry Austin Area Hockey Fans, they keep operating like they do and do an amazing job.

This year is just the beginning and you will get to celebrate hockey championships in the near future, keep it up, get more people to follow the team and the sport down in Central Texas. I'm looking forward to many great years for the Texas Stars and will be looking for another shot at the Calder Cup in the near future.

In Hershey, PA: The Texas Stars were defeated by the Hershey Bears 4-0 on Monday Night in front of 11,002 fans at the Giant Center in Game 6 of the Calder Cup Finals. Goalie Michal Neuvirth made 22 saves as the Bears beat the Stars 4-2 in the best-of-7 series.

Hershey Defensemen John Carlson, Karl Alzner and Patrick Mcneill each scored as the Bears won their 11th Calder Cup. Mcneill finished with two goals in the win. Texas goalie Brent Krahn stopped 32 saves in the defeat.

Hershey claimed a 2-0 lead by the end of the first period. The Bears opened the scoring with a power play goal at 12:29. Defensemen John Carlson found a rebound in the Texas Crease and snapped a shot past Texas Goalie Brent Krahn for his 2nd goal of the playoffs and a 1-0 lead.

The Bears took a 2-0 lead at 14:28 of the opening period with a goal by Karl Alzner. The Hershey defender picked up a rebound at the top of the left wing circle and blasted a snapshot past Krahn for his thrid goal of the postseason. Krahn made 15 first period saves.

In the 2nd period, the Bears expanded their lead to 3-0 off a rebound at 14:47. Hershey winger Alexander Giroux snapped a shot to Texas net from the right wing circle. Stars goalie Brent Krahn made their initial save and kicked the rebound off the crease. Hershey Defensemen Patrick Mcneill fired the rebound into the Texas net, scoring his second goal of the playoffs and giving the Bears a three goal lead.

In the third period, Patrick Mcneill scored his second goal of the night, a power play tally that made it 4-0 with 5:08 left in the third period.

Hershey edges Texas in OT, Takes a 3-2 Series Lead

I'm sorry I didn't keep track of the last 2 games of the AHL Calder Cup Championship. In addition to on-going issues with my grandmother. Our A/C Units were busted so I was away from our home for a couple of days while it was getting fixed. So my apologies to the fans of the American Hockey League and the Texas Stars.

In front of a season best 7,054 fans and giving the team and the city one last hope on home ice for the 2009-2010 season, the Stars were looking to take a 3-2 series lead with a shot of the Calder Cup.

Instead it was Hershey's Alexander Giroux who's had a huge Final come up big again with just 6 minutes left in the Game to win what was a great goaltenders duel between Matt Climie and Michal Neuvirth 2-1 to give the Bears the win and a 3 game sweep of the Stars at home in a series where the road team has won every game in this series.

Game 6 took place on Monday Night at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

In Austin The Texas Stars were defeated by the Hershey Bears 2-1 in OT on Friday Night in front of a record breaking crowd of 7,054 fans at Cedar Park Center in Game 5 of the Calder Cup Finals. Hershey Left Wing Alexander Giroux scored the game winning goal with 6:32 in OT, leading the Bears to a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Texas Goalie Matt Climie stopped 41 of 43 Hershey Shots. Forward Aaron Gagnon notched the only goal in Texas' fifth loss at home during the postseason. Bears winger Francois Bouchard scored the only goal in regulation for Hershey and goalie Michal Neuvirth made 35 saves in the win. Texas will travel to Hershey for Game 6 on Monday, June 14th at 6:00 PM CDT.

Texas opened the scoring with a power play goal at 8:03 of the first period. Defensemen Dan Jancevski ripped a slapshot from the left point, and forward Aaron Gagnon redirected the puck from the Hershey Crease past goalie Michal Neuvirth for the 1-0 Stars Lead. Defensemen Maxime Fortunus added an assist on Gagnon's 8th goal of the postseason.

The Bears tied the game at 1-1 at 11:12 of the 2nd period, just seconds after Texas killed off a power play. Right wing Francois Bouchard scored his fifth goal of the playoffs from the slot, beating Texas Goalie Matt Climie on the stickside. Winger Chris Bouchard set up Bouchard with a pass from the left wing circle. Neither team scored for the rest of regulation, forcing the extra session.

Hershey winger Alexander Giroux scored the game winning goal at 13:38 of OT, lifting the Bears to a 2-1 victory. Giroux found a rebound of the Texas net and slipped a shot past Climie for the win. Defensemen Karl Anzer and John Carlson assisted on the game winner.

Calder Cup Finals Game 5 Gameday

After 4 games in this year's Calder Cup Final, the Texas Stars & Hershey Bears have traded blows on the road so far in this year's championship series.

After a great start in this series, the Hershey Bears have been able to respond very well to the Stars winning the first 2 games. In addition to the 1st 2 games, it looked like Game 3 would look more of the same as the Stars were looking to go up 3-0. Now with Hershey and Texas tied at 2-2, the series is up for grabs as we are going to have a best-of-3 series for the League Championship.

John Carlson put the team ahead on the PP which was also his first goal of the playoffs, while Cladue Giroux scored his 13th of the playoffs to come within 1 of Jamie Benn's 14 which leads the playoffs.

If the Stars are going to win Game 5 and regain the series lead. Jamie Benn must find a way to fight off the defense that's been sworming and focusing on him in this series as he only has 2 points in the Final (Both Assists). Can Jamie Benn produce one more big game like he did so many times during the regular season with the Dallas Stars?

Also players like Aaron Gagnon and Perttu Lindgren continue will need to have big games. Jeremy Morin is looking to have another big game after assisting on both goals in the 4-2 loss for the Texas Stars in Game 4 who's looking to take the series lead tonight.

My other big player who needs a big night is Travis Morin who had 2 assists in this game which takes him to 12 for the playoffs, who's tied with Jamie Benn for the team lead for assists in the playoffs this year. He also scored the game winner in Game 2 with under a minute left in the game.

My pick is that the winner of this game will eventually win the Calder Cup as the series will shift to Hershey, Penn. for at least Game 6 on Monday Night, then if necessary, a game 7 would be played for the Championship coming up on Wednesday Night.

For the Texas Stars, this is the final home game of the season regardless of the result so the Stars are looking to end the home schedule on a high and a 3-2 lead heading back to Hershey with a shot of clinching the Cup next week.

Also the injury situation continues to be dicey for Andrew Hutchinson as he wasn't in morning skate this morning and will probably sit again tonight. Expect Trevor Ludwig to get more playing time tonight as he has been paired up with Ethan Graham back in Game 4.

Meanwhile we could have some good news for Texas as Brent Krahn maybe be able to make his first start since Game 6 of the 2nd Round against Chicago back on May 9.

I'm expecting the Texas Stars looking to comeback after losing the momentum like they had in the first 2 games and the first period of Game 3. If they can't find a way to get it back, the Bears maybe on their way to a 2nd straight Calder Cup Title.

Rest of the AHL Calder Cup Final to be on the NHL Network

It was announced by both the American Hockey League & NHL Network that the rest of the Calder Cup Finals will be televised on NHL Network as the league will televise the last 3 games starting tonight.

All 3 games will have a short pregame show before the game gets going. Game 5 will be only on the USA while Games 6 & 7 would be both on the USA & Canada.

A Late Hershey Surge gives the Bears a 4-2 win, ties the Series at 2-2

As it began to look like Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals in Austin would go to OT in front of another crowd of 7,000+ fans at the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday Night. John Carlson who's had a very strong year from playing nearly 50 games at the AHL by scoring 39 points and winning the WJC Gold with Team USA back in January with the OT Game Winner which ended Canada's 5 Year Gold Medal Streak.

Now with his 1st goal of the playoffs, has given the Bears a lot of momentum and a guaranteed trip back to Pennsylvania for Game 6 on Monday Night of the Calder Cup Final.

It looked like it was going to take a special teams goal or taking advantage of a major turnover that was going to make the difference. Well it was a power play goal after Too Many men on the Ice Penalty by Scott Mcculloch with 2:39 left gave the Bears a golden opportunity to take advantage and they did just 30 seconds into the PP.


Then in the final minute, Claude Giroux scored his 13th of the playoffs with an empty netter with just 30 seconds left to clinch the 4-2 win and continue the trend of the road team winning every game in this series.


With the series now tied at 2-2, Texas needs to find a way to get the momentum that carried them through the first 2 games and the 1st period in Game 3. I think the winner of Game 5 on Friday Night will eventually win the Championship this year.

Andrew Hutchinson was injured in the previous game and sat out with an ankle injury. Trevor Ludwig took his place and had a -1 on the night. Both Matt Climie and Michal Neuvirth both made timely saves and kept their teams in the game for most of the night, especially when the game was tied 2-2 in the 3rd period.


In order for the Texas Stars to win this series, the Stars need one more great night from Jamie Benn. Other then 2 assists (1 each in Games 2 & 3), the Bears have done a great job of defending him and not allowing him to go crazy. Can he find a way to evade the defenders and help the Stars win Game 5 on Friday and later to win the championship, or can the Bears ride the momentum of late to the Calder Cup Championship for the 2nd straight year.

Regardless of the result on Friday Night, this will be the final home game of the season for the Texas Stars. So if you haven't been to Cedar Park Center to see the Stars play, this is your last chance to see them till the new season starts in October.

In Austin, Texas: The Texas Stars were defeated by the Hershey Bears 4-2 on Wednesday Night in front of a capacity crowd of 7,032 at Cedar Park Center in Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals. However defensemen John Carlson scored the game winning goal with 2:08 left in the third period, lifting the Bears over the Stars. Hershey forward Keith Aucoin, Jay Beagle and Alxeander Giroux each scored a goal, as they tied the best-of-seven series at 2-2.

Hershey goalie Michal Neuvirth made 26 saves in the win, while Texas Goalie Matt Climie stopped 25 of 28 shots. Stars Center Greg Rallo and Perttu Lindgren each notched a goal, and forward Travis Morin added two assists in the defeat at home. Texas will host Game 5 of the Calder Cup Finals on Friday Night at 7:30 PM at the Cedar Park Center.

Hershy opened the scoring with a power play goal at 5:17 of the first period. Forward Keith Aucoin received from Alexander Giroux, and slipped a shot from the corner past Stars Goalie Matt Climie.

Andrew Gordon also recorded an assist on Aucoin's second goal of the postseason. Texas countered with 2:27 remaining in the third period, tying the game at 1-1. Center Greg Rallo ripped a slapshot from the high slot, beating Bears Goalie Michal Neuvirth on the gloveside. Defensemen Dan Jancevski and forward Travis Morin set up Rallo's third goal of the playoffs.

At 10:47 of the third period, the Stars went ahead 2-1 with a power-play goal from Perttu Lindgren. Defensemen Garrett Stafford faked a shot at the blueline and sent a cross ice pass to Lindgren, who carried the puck to the top of the left wing circle and fired a shot to the net. Morin also notched an assist on Lindgren's seventh goal of the postseason.

The Bears tied the game 2-2 after forward Jay Beagle capitalized off a turnover in the Texas Zone, sending a shot past Climie on the glove side. Mathieu Perrault and defensemen Patrick Mcneil assisted Beagle's second goal of the playoffs, which came at 13:45 of the middle frame.

The game remained tied 2-2 until Defensemen John Carlson scored a power play goal for Hershey in the third period, giving the Bears a 3-2 lead. Carlson's first goal of the postseason was scored from the slot with 2:08 left on the clock. Keith Aucoin and winger Chris Bourque set up the eventuall game winner. Giroux added an empty net goal with 27 seconds remaining, lifting the Bears to the 4-2 victory over the Stars.

Can Texas fight back at home for Game 4 Tonight?

After what would looked like a great start and leading 3-1 after the 1st period of Game 3. The Stars and their fans were looking to have a huge night and go up 3-0 to possibly put them in a position to clinch the Calder Cup Championship Tonight. Instead it was the Hershey Bears who came back big time with 5 unanswered goals in the 2nd & 3rd periods to come back to win 6-3.

In addition to the Loss, a scary moment came in the 3rd period when Andrew Hutchinson was hurt and had to sit out the rest of the game. Good news is that he was able to skate at the morning skate this morning at Cedar Park as a part of the preparation for Game 4 tonight. The bad news is that Hutchinson is a game time decision tonight to see if he will play.

If not, then it's starting to look like that Trevor Ludwig would take his place most likely as he would be paired up with Ethan Graham according to the Texas Stars Blog called Hundred Degree Hockey.

One thing that is known is the fans, after having just over 7,000 fans at the game at Monday Night, this is showing the city of Austin that the Texas Stars Hockey Team has officially arrived in Central Texas and expect another packed house tonight at the Cedar Park Center.

Like Game 3 on Monday, the team is asking fans to white out the building again and the first 5,000 fans through the doors tonight will get thundersticks to bang together to make a lot of noise tonight.

The Texas Stars showed that they can have a big period in Game 1 and be able to keep it going. If Texas can show the strong first period they had on Monday Night, the Stars should be fine and will be looking at a 3-1 series advantage with a shot to win the Calder Cup on Friday Night.

However, it's clear that the Bears have stolen momentum from the 2nd & 3rd period performances after 2 goals from Andrew Gordon, Kyle Wilson and Mathieu Perreault in the game on Monday Night. A Hershey win would tie the series at 2-2 and would a return trip to Hershey for at least Game 6 on June 14.

Check out the Texas Stars tonight as the AHL will be playing Game 4 tonight at the Cedar Park Center as the game will be streamed live on the AHL Website as well, also it will be on the radio on ESPN Austin & XM-Sirius Radio on the NHL Home Ice Network. Game time is 7:30 PM Tonight.

Hershey has huge 2nd & 3rd periods to win 6-3, cuts series lead to 2-1

With the Hershey Bears each getting 2 goals from Andrew Gordon, Kyle Wilson and Mathieu Perreault helped lead the Bears score 5 unanswered goals in the 2nd & 3rd periods after the Texas Stars got out to a great start which included taking a 3-1 lead Hutchinson, Wathier and Sawada all got early goals and were looking to a huge night and looking to take a 3-0 series lead with a chance to close it out on Wednesday Night.

Other huge Hershey nights came from Keith Aucoin, Chris Bourque and Karl Azner each had two assists last night in the big win to keep the Bears in the series.

Matt Climie definitely had his worst performance this year as he gave up 6 goals including 5 in the last 40 minutes. While Hershey Goalie Michal Neuvirth came back very well after the rocky start and the Bears were blocking shots left and right including one that was blocked by Bears defensemen John Carlson that allowed the team in Chocolate and white to set up a goal by Andrew Gordon early in the 3rd that took a 4-3 lead for Hershey and never looked back after that.

No worries for the Stars though as the Stars are still leading the series 2-1. This does mean that Game 5 is now on for Friday Night at Cedar Park Center.

Also great job by the fans as the team set a record crowd of 7014 for the night for the team's first season. This sets up well for the team to have a great atmosphere to bring the Stars back, and help them win on both Wednesday & Friday night as the team's quest for their 1st ever Calder Cup continues.

Also don't forget to wear white as the Stars are continuing the white out for the rest of the Championship Series.

In Austin, Texas: The Texas Stars were defeated by the Hershey Bears on Monday Night in front of 7,014 fans at Cedar Park Center in Game 3 of the Calder Cup Finals. Hershey scored five unanswered goals after trailing at the end of the first period 3-1. The Bears cut the series lead to 2-1 in the best-of-7 series. Bears forwards Andrew Gordon, Kyle Wilson and Mathieu Perrault each scored two goals, leading Hershey to its first win against the Stars in the Final.

Hershey goalie Michael Neuvirth made 27 saves in the win, while Texas Goalie Matt Climie stopped 23 of 29 shots in the defeat. Texas defensemen Andrew Hutchinson, as well as wingers Francis Wathier and Raymond Sawada each notched a goal in the loss. Texas will host Game 4 of the Calder Cup Finals on Wednesday Night at 7:30 PM at the Cedar Park Center.

Stars defensemen Andrew Hutchinson opened the scoring for Texas with a power-play goal at 5:59 of the first period. Hutchinson Received a cross-ice pass from Garrett Stafford and ripped a one-timer from the top of the left point. The shot went off a Bears defender past Hershey Goalie Michal Neuvirth and into the net for the 1-0 Texas Lead. Stars winger Jamie Benn notched an assist on Hutchinson's fifth goal of the playoffs. Wilson received a pass from winger Francis Bouchard and sent a shot past the stick of Stars Goalie Matt Climie, tying the game at 1-1.

Just 42 seconds later, Texas went ahead 2-1 after winger Francis Wathier scored a shorthanded goal off a Hershey Turnover. Wathier picked up the puck and scored after Hershey's Neuvirth misplayed it. Wathier's 2nd goal of the postseason gave Texas a 2-1 lead. With 2:03 remaining in the opening frame, Texas increased its lead to 3-1.

Winger Scott Mccullough brought the puck up the left wing side and sent a pass back to Raymond Sawada in the slot. Sawada beat Neuvirth on the gloveside, scoring his third goal of the postseason. Center Warren Peters also added an assist.

At 12:27 of the 2nd period, Wilson scored his second goal of the night. bringing the Bears within one goal of Texas at 3-2. Wilson received a pass from Keith Aucoin in the crease and fired a shot past Climie on the stickside.

Chris Bourque also notched an assisted on the power play goal. Just 88 seconds later, Hershey tied the game 3-3 after center Mathieu Perrault tipped in a shot from defensemen Karl Azner. Perrault was posted in front of Climie in the crease and redirected Azner's shot from the left point, scoring his sixth goal of the postseason.

In the third period, Hershey went ahead 4-3 after Winger Andrew Gordon poked the puck through the Texas Crease and Past Climie. Gordon's 12th goal of the playoffs came at 6:41 of the final frame and was assisted by Aucoin and Bourque. At 8:12, The Bears gained a 5-3 lead by Perrault scored his second goal of the evening.

Perrault received a pass from Andrew Giroux on the backdoor and snuck a shot past Climie on the gloveside. The Bears extended their lead to 6-3 at 12:07. Gordon ripped a shot from the blueline and down the slot, beating Climie for his second goal of the night and team leading 13th goal of the playoffs. Alzner tallied an assist on the goal.

Note to FSN Southwest: Take the AHL Seriouslly

With the Texas Stars taking the Cedar Park Center Ice tonight for Game 3 of the AHL Calder Cup Finals.

Something weird is missing, Great fans Check, a great shot at the Calder Cup Check, players looking to make a statement that should be on the Dallas Stars in the future Check, TV Coverage Non existent.

For the entire playoffs this year for the Texas Stars, TV Coverage has been non existent during the playoffs as the Stars have beat the Rockford Icehogs, Chicago Wolves & Hamilton Bulldogs in the playoffs.

The Texas Stars were looking to get a TV Deal for the Final but couldn't get a deal in time with several different TV Networks (Mostly in Austin) but because of scheduling and money, it couldn't get done.

This is a message for FSN Southwest to start taking this league seriously. In addition to a team competing for a Calder Cup in their first season, none of the region's three teams (Texas Stars, Houston Aeros & the San Antonio Rampage) were hardly on Television at all during the season with the exception of a couple of games that were set up and sponsored by State Farm Insurance.

If the sport is going to continue to grow and thrive in this area, television is an important part of the recipe. In addition to the 3 Texas Teams, Oklahoma City will be joining the league next year as the Barons will be returning big time hockey to OKC since the Oklahoma City Barons left the Central Hockey League at the end of the 2008-09 season. So that shows you that hockey can and is succeeding in this area.

Unlike leagues like the Junior's or even the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) these players are just one call up away from getting a chance to impress in the NHL that can turn a minor league's dream come true and transform their careers and their lives.

This is the 2nd best Hockey League in the world with some impressive talent with players like Aaron Gagnon, Franchis Wathier plus goalies Matt Climie & Brent Krahn who I think both have great shots of being the Stars Back up next year.

So FSN Southwest, this has been a great team and a great story as the Stars are looking to win the Calder Cup in their first year. To bad many people outside the Cedar Park Center won't get a chance to see it.

Besides, they is not that much sports going in June except for baseball which is a 162 game Marathon and some of the baseball games are a big time grind and can get pretty boring at times. Also with how the NBA grinds out their schedule, most nights the NBA are off and all their games are on ABC for this year's Championship.

Take yesterday's Rangers VS. Devil Rays for example, a game that took 4 hours and 9 minutes. That just shows you how slow the game can be at times. And it was one of the longest games in the history of the Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. Tonight they have a game at home against a Seattle team that is 22-34 and is already 12.5 games back of first.

It doesn't matter the event or the time of year. A championship Hockey or basketball game should take over any regular season baseball game that doesn't mean that much over the course of a long baseball season while the Texas Stars & Hershey Bears playing for a championship.

So FSN Southwest, if you want to have something that's worth something, make the Rangers play on another network tonight and give the Stars VS. Bears series some love.

This is a critical part of the continuing to grow the sport in the Southwest, this should be a big part. If shows like HS Spotlight and HS Game Time can air stories on High School Hockey when they have events like the League All Star Game or Southlake Carroll playing at Nationals back in April. Then FSN Southwest could find a way to air the AHL Calder Cup Championship.

So in closing, find a way to come up with a TV Deal to cover all 4 AHL Teams to give the teams more publicity and let more people get a chance to see how great the sport of hockey is in this league. Also have some features on local players that are playing Junior's & NCAA that have big time dreams of possibility play pro so more fans can follow their careers and they will get a chance to know them.

Matt Climie making a statement to the NHL, looking to win the Calder Cup

Here's a recent article that Lindsay Kramer did recently about Texas Stars Goalie Matt Climie as the Stars are leading the Hershey Bears for the Calder Cup Championship!

Goalie Matt Climie began the season making history for the Texas Stars, and he hopes to end it the same way. That's the easy part. The bigger challenge is not getting a chance to put your name in the record books at all.

"I think it's harder to watch a game from the bench when you get actually playing," he said. "When you are playing, you are a factor. You get on the ice, you get in a zone out there."

Climie has made that type of neighborhood his home the past couple of weeks. As a result, the first year Stars have moved into the high rent district of the American Hockey League with a Calder Cup Finals date against the defending Champion Hershey.

Climie's gut has been forged out of steel lately. He came in relief of injured starter Brent Krahn in Game 6 of the West Division Finals against Chicago, then beat the host Wolves in a Game 7 OT. With Krahn out the entire Western Conference Final against Hamilton, Climie played every contest and stole Games 6 & 7 on the road by making a total of 92 saves. In the postseason, he's 5-3 with a .922 SV% and a 2.62 GAA in 10 playoff appearances.

"The nerves are definitely there. I just have fun out there," he said. "When I'm away at the rink, I don't put too much thought into it. I relax. I fell good, stretched out. When the puck drops, I leave it out on the ice."

Climie, 27, got a wide range of seasoning in 2008-2009, playing for Idaho of the East Coast Hockey League, Dallas of the NHL and then Houston of the AHL. His five games with the Aeros all came in the playoffs, where he posted a 1-1 record with a .945 SV% and a 1.88 GAA.

"The experience was definitely good. It goes a long way," he said of his first AHL Playoff Minutes.

Climie got credit for the first win in Texas history on October 3, a 3-2 victory over San Antonio. He also stopped 25 shots for the first Stars Shutout, a 2-0 win against Grand Rapids on October 15. Overall he was 21-17-3 with a 2.46 GAA and a .919 SV% in the regular season.

"I'm not surprised," Climie said of his success. "I've had a couple of pro seasons. I fell I'm a good goaltender. You look at our D-Corps, we have a lot of experience out there."

The numbers would suggest that Climie and the Stars (AHL Affiliate of the Dallas Stars) are simply the final from Hershey (AHL Affiliate of the Washington Capitals) has to finish off to place its order for a second straight Calder Cup Title. But Texas two Game 7 wins on the road - becoming the 4th team in AHL History to pull that off in the same postseason - speaks to the group ability to fight its way upstream.

"That's just the character of the guys on the team. We're confident in ourselves," Climie said. "There's still games to be played. It's been a great ride so far. You start worrying about (being an underdog), it gets in your head. We have the team identity, we find a to win."

Because of me being away from the computer most of the last few days. I wish I would have posted this earlier, but just before the Calder Cup Final got underway. Texas Edges Hershey in the Final Minute

In a night where the Stars never trailed in the game, it still took a goal in the final minute by Travis Morin to knock off the Bears to prevent OT. And go up 2-0 as the Series shifts to the Cedar Park Center on Monday Night for Game 3 as the Stars will now look to win the Calder Cup Championship on home ice this week.

Other Texas Goals were scored by Aaron Gagnon in the first, Garrett Stafford in the 2nd and Mathieu Beaudoin in the 3rd to take 1 goal leads in all three instances.

For the Hershey Bears, these were the first 2 home losses in the playoffs after going 8-0 in the first 3 rounds as they saw off the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Albany River Rats & the Manchester Monarchs in the playoffs. Goals for the Bears came from Andrew Gordon, Steve Pinizzotto & Francois Bouchard in this game.

One note for the Games at the Cedar Park Center: If your going to any of the games at the Cedar Park Center, be sure to wear white as the team will look to have a whiteout for all 3 games (If Necessary) next week as the Stars are now getting into striking distance for their first ever league championship.

In Hershey, Pennsylvania: The Texas Stars defeated the Hershey Bears 4-3 on Saturday Night in front of 10,872 fans at the Giant Center in Game 2 of the Calder Cup Finals. Texas forward Travis Morin scored the game winning goal with 46 seconds remaining in the contest, giving the Stars the victory and a 2-0 series lead heading home for Game 3 on Monday at Cedar Park Center.

Forwards Aaron Gagnon and Mathieu Beaudoin also scored as Texas improved to 8-4 on the road in the playoffs. Stars defensemen Garrett Stafford also netted a goal, as Texas handed Hershey the first set of back-to-back regulation losses at home this year (playoffs and regular season). Texas Goalie Matt Climie made 25 saves, helping the team to its fourth straight road victory.

Hershey forwards Steve Pinizzotto, Andrew Gordon and Francois Bouchard each scored in the loss. Hershey Goalie Michal Neuvirth stopped 19 Texas Saves in the defeat. Texas will host Game 3 of the Calder Cup Finals on Monday Night at 7:30 PM at Cedar Park Center.

In the first period, Texas struck for the game's opening goal just one minute into the contest. Right wing Colton Sceviour tipped the puck at center ice to Aaron Gagnon. The Stars center took off on a breakaway and snuck a shot between the legs of Hershey Goalie Michal Neuvirth for his seventh goal of the playoffs and a 1-0 lead.

Hershey countered with a shorthanded goal at 7:40. Winger Steve Pinizzotto picked a puck at the Hershey Blue-line and lead a two-on-one rush back into Texas Territory. Pinnizzotto evened the scoring with a slap-shot from the top of the right-wing circle, beating Stars Goalie Matt Climie for his fifth goal of the playoffs. The shorthanded goal tied the game at 1-1.

In the 2nd period, the teams traded goals once again. Texas pushed in front with the first power-play goal of the series at 11:03 of the middle frame. Stars defensemen Garrett Stafford blasted a shot that deflected off a Hershey defender and into the Bears Net for the 2-1 Texas Lead. Stars defensemen Andrew Hutchinson and forward Perttu Lindgren assisted on Stafford's fourth goal of the playoffs.

Hershey countered to tie the game 2-2 at 11:49. Forward Francois Bouchard blasted a one-timer from the high slot, beating Texas Goalie Matt Climie on the stick side for his fourth goal of the playoffs. Hershey defensemen Patrick Wellar and forward Ashton Rome picked up the assist on the Bears second goal of the night.

In the 3rd period, the Stars pushed ahead with a 3-2 lead after a goal by Mathieu Beaudoin at 3:18 of the final frame. Center Perttu Lindgren split the defense and slipped a pass to Beaudoin. The Texas winger finished off the play, beating Michal Neuvirth for his fourth goal of the playoffs and the team's third tally of the night.

The Bears tied the game for the third time of the night at 10:44. Andrew Gordon put in a rebound off a Patrick Wellar shot, netting his 11th goal of the playoffs and tying the game at 3-3. Texas charged back to take the lead in the last minute. Forward Scott Mcculloch threw the puck into the Hershey zone, banking the puck off the boards.

Stars forward Travis Morin scooped up the puck and snapped the backhand shot to the Hershey net. The puck deflected off Bears Goalie Michal Neuvirth and into the net for the game-winning goal and a 4-3 final.

Texas gives Hershey first Home Loss of the playoffs, Wins Game 1 2-1

Texas was able to do something that no one else was able to do in this year's playoffs. Beat them on home ice, going into the Calder Cup Final Opener last night, the Hershey Bears were 8-0 on home ice during this year's playoffs. But the Stars sent the Bears a message as this first year team is for real with a strong defense and a strong goaltending duo of Matt Climie and Brent Krahn if he comes back for this year's series.



After Hershey's Francois Bouchard scored to make it 1-0 early in the 2nd. Texas has comeback like they have done so many times in this year's playoffs as they tied at it 1-1 at the halfway mark of the game with Winger Greg Rallo scoring only his 2nd goal of the playoffs. After some great back-and-fourth action. Shaun Mcculloch gave the Stars a 2-1 lead early in the 3rd and Climie would stopped all 12 Hershey shots in the 3rd period to give the team a 2-1 win in Game 1 of this year's Final.



In addition to Hershey's first home playoff loss this year, the Stars won their 3rd road playoff game in a row and 7th overall of this year's playoffs.



As for Jamie Benn, he's looking to break the AHL Rookie Playoff Record for Goals with 14 that was set back in 1982.

In Hershey, Pennsylvania: The Texas Stars defeated the Hershey Bears 2-1 on Thursday Night in front of 10,013 fans at the Giant Center in Game 1 of the Calder Cup Finals. Left Winger Scott Mcculloch scored 2:10 into the third period to give Texas the lead and Stars held on to win the first game of the series.

Texas Goalie Matt Climie made 26 saves, handing Hershey its first loss at home in the playoffs and the first loss since March 21st. Right wing Greg Rallo also scored, as Texas improved to 7-4 on the road in the playoffs. Hershey Goalie Michael Neuvirth stopped 24 Texas shots in the loss. Bears forward Francois Bouchard scored the lone Hershey Goal. Texas will remain in Hershey for Game 2 of the Calder Cup Finals on Saturday Night at 6:00 PM (CDT).



After a scoreless first period, Hershey opened the scoring with the first goal of the Calder Cup Finals at 4:25 into the 2nd period. Right wing Francois Bouchard wrapped the puck through the Stars crease and around goalie Matt Climie. Scoring his third goal of the playoffs. Bears forward Mathieu Perrault and defensemen Patrick Mcneil assisted on the opening goal.

It marked the 11th straight game that Texas allowed the first goal of the night in the playoffs. The Stars countered to tie the game at 9:57 of the period. Right wing Greg Rallo carried the puck through the neutral zone and snapped a wrist shot over the glove Goalie Michal Neuvirth. Rallo's second goal of the playoffs was set up by center Aaron Gagnon.



Texas claimed the lead at 2:10 of the third period. Winger Scott Mcculloch carried the puck into the Hershey Zone, stickhandled past a Bears defensemen and lifted a backhand shot through the legs of Neuvirth for his third goal of the playoffs and a 2-1 final.

He may not have seized the opportunity when it was first presented itself, but Texas Stars right winger Raymond Sawada has seen what it takes to make it to the next level and is still determined to claim a spot on the Dallas Stars roster next season.

The 25 year old from Richmond, B.C., has played a significant role in the deep playoff run experienced by the Dallas' top minor league affiliate, which continues next week in the Calder Cup Finals against the Hershey Bears.

Through 18 playoff games, the 6'2", 205 pound Sawada has contributed two goals and seven points, but he knows he won't get back to Dallas with offense. The task will require a much more well rounded performance and Sawada has been delivering just that throughout the post-season.

"I just try to do what I have to do to get up to Dallas, which is being physical, playing good defensive hockey and trying to get the puck to the guys that can score." said Sawada, who was called up to the big club, seeing action in five NHL Games. "I think I ended off the year pretty good." I had a solid start to the playoffs and I just hope I can keep playing that same way for at least a couple of weeks.

He may began the season ranked fifth on the Dallas Stars org. depth chart among goaltenders, but make no mistake, Richard Bachman is determined to keep climbing the list.

After two years as one of the nation's best NCAA goaltender at Colorado College, Bachman left school last spring and has enjoyed an outstanding first season of professional hockey. He spent most of it in the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads, but is currently with the Texas Stars, Dallas' top minor league affiliate based in the Austin Suburb of Cedar Park, serving as the backup to Matt Climie.

This whole year has been a valuable learning experience for Bachman, and the higher education continues from his vintage point at the end of the bench, as Texas prepares for Game 1 of the AHL's Calder Cup Finals against Hershey Thursday Night.

"I think it has gone really well for me," said Bachman, who complied a 4-3-0 record in seven AHL Appearance's over two different call-ups during the regular season, including a shutout, with a 2.02 GAA average and a stellar .933 SV%. "Getting some time down in Idaho was really good for me, just got some games in there, get some experience, kind of learning the pro game. It's a bit different then college, a little more controlled. So that was nice. Then, getting a few chances to come up here and play was great and I had a good experience with that. Also just practicing with these guys has really helped me be more patient. It's been great so far."

By now, everyone knows how Dallas Stars rookie Jamie Benn has been tearing up the AHL Playoffs for the org. top minor league affiliate, the Texas Stars, who are based in the Austin Suburb of Cedar Park.

What Stars fans may not realize is that another significant contributor to the farm club's storybook run to the Calder Cup Finals has been Finnish Center Perttu Lindgren.

Lindgren's six post-season goals only trails only Benn's league leading 14 on the squad, while his 8 assists gave him 14 points in 18 games, including a virtuoso performance when it mattered most. Lindgren scored a goal and two assists in the Stars 4-2 win in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals last Wednesday Night against Hamilton, ensuring a trip to the Finals. He capped off the club's comeback from a 2-0 second period deficit by connecting for the game winner goal with six minutes left in the third period.

Perttu, that guy has a great set of hands," noted Texas Winger Raymond Sawada. "He can display doodle in a phone booth with five other guys in there. He's a tremendously skilled hockey player and when he gets out there on the power play, even on 5-on-5, if you give him some room, he's going to do some special things with that puck."

The display he put on in Game 7 was just the latest proof of the dynamic offensive talent the 6-foot, 185 pound Lindgren possesses. Over the course of the regular season, Lindgren, 22, registered 14 goals and 47 points, which ranked third on the team, in 73 games, and even earned himself a brief call-up to Dallas.

"I think it's been pretty good," said Lindgren of his first couple of seasons back in North America after spending 2008-09 with Lukko Rauma in the Finnish Elite League. "A couple of not-that-good years and I had a good summer and I was happy to be back here. I think it's been a good year for me, especially for the team."

From Hershey, Pennsylvania: A familiar face meets the new kid in town when the 2010 Calder Cup Championship Series - the 74th American Hockey League Championship Series - get underway on Thursday.

The Hershey Bears are in the Finals after knocking off Bridgeport, Albany, & Manchester in their first three playoff series, but the road to the Calder Cup has been far from a smooth one. The Bears, whose 60 regular season wins (60-17-3 123 PTS) set an all time mark, have gone 12-3 in the playoffs but have needed nine third period comebacks and an AHL Record seven OT Wins to capture the Richard F. Canning Trophy and the Eastern Conference Title.

Hershey's roster features 18 members of last year's Calder Cup Championship Team including the dynamic offensive duo in Keith Aucoin and Alexander Giroux - who have combined for 203 goals and 290 assists for 493 points in Hershey's 197 regular season games and playoff games over the last two years.

After a 4 game sweep of Rockford in the 1st round, the Texas Stars ousted Chicago with a game 7 OT Victory in the division finals before stunning Hamilton with road wins in Game 6 & 7 of the Conference Finals to claim the Robert W. Clark Trophy as the Western Conference Champions.

Texas, in its inaugural AHL Campaign, with a 46-27-7 record (99 PTS) in the regular season and finished tied for 2nd with Hershey in team defense with 2.48 goals per game. Hershey's four appearances in five years coincide with the beginning of their affiliation with the Washington Capitals in 2005. The Bears have won seven straight playoff series, tied for the longest streak in AHL History. Hershey's 22 finals appearances overall are a league record, as are their 10 championships. Hershey finished first overall during the regular season in goals scored, power play efficiency and penalty killing, and was tied for 2nd (with Texas) in goals against. The Stars were 2nd in the regular season on the penalty kill but have been successful just 74% of the time in the playoffs. Texas is the fourth team in the AHL history to win 2 Road Game 7's in the same post-season. The Calder Cup Finals are being contested in Pennsylvania for the 7th year in a row and in the state of Texas for the first time since 2003. Texas Come's back to Stun Hamilton & Advance to the Calder Cup Championship

After it looked like that it would be Hamilton's night after going up 2-0 and out-shooting the Stars 34-11 through 2 periods. The Stars looked light years away from advancing to the Calder Cup Championship. But thinks to Matt Climie's performance and a unexpected goal from Ethan Graham with just under 6 minutes left in the 2nd period, that gave the Stars some life and a fighting chance.

However, the 3rd period began as the Stars found new life to comeback in this game as Mathieu Beaudoin scored near the midway point of the 3rd period to comeback to tie the game at 2-2.

Then the Stars put it away with goals from Perttu Lindgren and Jamie Benn's playoff leading 14th of the playoffs with just under 90 seconds left to win 4-2 and win the Western Conference Title in 7 games over the North Division Champion Hamilton Bulldogs.

Now the Stars will have to wait a week as they will now get a chance to get some rest before heading to Hershey, Penn. for the start of the AHL Calder Cup Finals against the defending League Champion Hershey Bears which will start on June 3.

Regardless of how the league championship series goes, this has been a surreal season for the Stars to have this much success for the Texas Stars this year.

In Hamilton, Ontario: The Texas Stars defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4-2 on Wednesday Night in front of 5121 fans at Copps Coliseum in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. The Stars scored 4 unanswered goals after trailing Hamilton 2-0 early on in the 2nd period, including three goals in the 3rd period alone. Forwards Mathieu Beaudoin and Perttu Lindgren each had a goal and an assist in the decisive Game 7. Texas goalie Matt Climie made 41 saves, including 32 in the first two periods, giving the Stars their 2nd Game 7 win this postseason. Rookie Jamie Benn and defensemen Ethan Graham also netted goals in the teams sixth road win of the Calder Cup Playoffs. Hamilton Goalie Curtis Sanford stopped 16 Texas Saves in the defeat. With the win, Texas will meet Hershey in the Calder Cup Finals.

The first period was nearly scoreless before a late goal by the Bulldogs at 19:51. Aaron Palushaj's centering pass bounced to center David Desharnais, who carried the puck to the bottom of the left wing circle and snapped a shot to the Stars net. Texas Goalie Matt Climie lunged for the save, but the puck deflected off his stick and into the net for the 1-0 Hamilton lead after one period of play. Desharnais tenth goal of the playoffs marked the seventh straight playoff game Hamilton opened the scoring against Texas.

In the 2nd period, the Bulldogs doubled their lead at 5:32 for a 2-0 cushion. Hamilton forward Max Pacioretty picked up a rebound off his second attempt and scored on the third try for his first goal of the playoffs. Texas would counter with an odd bounce in the Hamilton zone. Stars defensemen Ethan Graham floated a puck to the Bulldogs net and it bounced over the glove of goalie Curtis Sanford. Graham's 2nd of the postseason was assisted by Warren Peters and Perttu Lindgren, trimming the Hamilton 2-1 after two periods of play.

Texas continued to press Hamilton and tied the game at 9:15 of the third period. Right wing Mathieu Beaudoin snapped a shot past Sanford in his third goal of the playoffs and a 2-2 score. Texas added its third goal of the night with 6:00 left in the game. Beaudoin centered a pass for Perttu Lindgren for his sixth goal of the playoffs and a 3-2 Texas lead. The Stars rounded out the scoring with 1:27 left in regulation, as Jamie Benn finished off a two-on-one from Colton Sceviour for his 14th of the playoffs and a 4-2 final.

AHL Calder Cup Championship Schedule

With the Texas Stars completing the Game 7 comeback in Hamilton, Ontario tonight. The Championship Series Schedule for the American Hockey League is now out.

And it will get going on June 3 as the team will have nearly a week off to get ready for the Calder Cup Final against the Hershey Bears which will be Hershey, Pennsylvania who's looking to win their 3rd Calder Cup Title in the last 5 seasons against a team that's looking to win the Calder Cup in their first season in the AHL.

In the scoring battle, it will be Jamie Benn who's leading the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs with 14 goals and is looking for more to help win the Championship. Hershey will respond with the 1-2 punch of Alexander Giroux and Andrew Gordon who have 10 & 12 goals each. As a part of a team that lead the league in scoring during the season in scoring with 342 during the regular season.

Texas had a great defense going into the postseason by giving up just under 2.50 a game. But their defense is getting tested as Texas as the Bears have had a strong offense all year. Texas is also hoping that Brent Krahn can comeback since he's been out of the lineup since he went out with an injury in Game 6 of the Chicago Series.

Hershey has been lead in net as Michal Neuvirth has been taking control of the playoffs with a 2.13 GAA as he has given up 3 or more goals just 3 times in the postseason. He doesn't have any shutouts, but he's been a strong net-minder in the playoffs this year.

So will it be the Veteran team that is looking for a 3rd title in 5 seasons (2006 & 2009) as the Bears will look to make it 11 Calder Cups in team history which is the most in AHL History. Or will it be the Texas Stars looking to shock the world by winning in their first season down in Texas?
