As the newest members of the Dallas Stars Org. both Jack Campbell & Austin Smith were interviewed on Austin's KLBJ 93.7 which is one of Austin's best known Classic Rock Stations earlier this afternoon.

It was only a few minutes but it gives listeners a vision of what they were coming through as they were on their way to the Professional game as both players will be looking to make their Professional Debut on Friday against the Oklahoma City Barons.

He was interviewed on the B-DOE Show which comes on from 3-7 PM Weekdays on 93.7 KLBJ, Austin's Classic Rock.

Texas losses 5th Straight VS. Abbotsford, 5-2

It was another lack luster night at the Cedar Park Center as the Texas Stars lost their 5th straight and ended a 7 game home stand with a lack luster 2-5-0 record that on a team that is last in the Western Conference and has been out of the playoff race for a while now. Many players are looking to count down the number of days to end the regular season and get on with the off-season.

After one of the few big highlights of the night that included Colton Sceviour which scored both goals (Including a Penalty Shot late in the first) but other then that it was Abbotsford's Night with huge games from the likes of Ryan Howse who scored twice and almost had a hat trick at one point, as well as Andy Brandt & Leland Irving who didn't have a great night but made the critical saves that kept the Stars out of the game at huge portions of it.

Other then Sceviour they were very few other players that had strong nights, even players like Matt Fraser who had a 4 game goal scoring streak that was snapped back on back on March 13rd against the Oklahoma City Barons and Scott Glennie who despite getting an assist on Sceviour's 2nd goal, still finished the night with a -1 rating.

After a couple of days of practice coming up this week, Friday Night will most likely see the introduction of  both Jack Campbell & Austin Smith will both be looking to make their Pro Hockey Debut after seeing their NCAA & OHL Season's wrap up last weekend. Campbell is looking to put a rough Junior Season behind him that saw the Greyhounds finish 9th in the OHL West and missed the playoffs. While Smith is looking to continue what's been a very strong season included being the nation's leading goal scorer and looking to win the Hobey Baker Award when the Top 3 is announced next Thursday with the Winner being announced on April 6.

Abbotsford's Victory saw the Heat move up to 5th Place in the very tight AHL Western Conference Playoff Race by overtaking the Peoria Rivermen. If the AHL Playoffs started today, the Heat would come down to Texas to play the Houston Aeros in the AHL Western Conference Quarterfinals in the #4 VS. #5 Series.

From Austin, Texas: The Texas Stars (27-33-4, 58 Points, 15th Place) were defeated by the Abbotsford Heat (34-25-7, 75 Points, 5th Place) 5-2 at the Cedar Park Center on Monday Night. Left Wing Ryan Howse registered two goals for Abbotsford, including the game winner at 5:04 of the second period. Right wing Andy Brandt notched a goal and an assist while Center Brian Walter and defensemen Joe Piskula each added two assists. Forwards Adam Estoclet and Dustin Sylvester also scored as the Heat finished 6-2-0 against the Stars.

Abbotsford goalie Leland Irving stopped 22 shots, taking the team's road record to 22-11-3. Stars right wing Colton Sceviour put up both goals for the home team. Texas Goalie Tyler Beskorowany (10-18-0) stopped 26 saves in the loss. Texas travels to Oklahoma City on Friday, March 23rd at 7:30 PM.

The Stars got on the board late in the first period with a penalty shot from right wing Colton Sceviour. Sceviour's 18th tally of the season went in with 2:10 remaining in the first period and gave Texas a 1-0 lead.

The Heat tied the game 1-1 in the second period with a goal from center Dustin Sylvester. Sylvester found the back of the net with help from right wing Akim Aliu and defensemen Brian Connelly just 40 seconds into the second frame. Abbotsford jumped out to a 2-1 lead at 5:04. Left wing Ryan Howse beat Texas Goalie Tyler Beskorowany with assists from defensemen Clay Wilson and center Ben Walter. The Heat continued the scoring, generating a 3-1 lead with 6:44 left in the second period. Center Adam Estoclet snapped a wrist shot in for his fifth goal of the year. Walter and defensemen Joe Piskula added an assist on the club's third goal of the night.

The Stars cut into the Heat's Lead with 3:03 remaining. Right wing Colton Sceviour netted his second goal of the night as he poked the puck past Abbotsford Goalie Leland Irving. Left wing Francis Wathier and Center Scott Glennie each provided an assist on the tally that made it 3-2.

Abbotsford strengthen it's lead at 2:09 of the third period. Left wing Ryan Howse notched his second goal, giving the Heat a 4-2 lead. Defensemen Jon Piskula and and right wing Andy Brandt each supplied an assist. The Heat struck again with 6:03 to go in the final frame. Brandt tapped in his first goal of the season for a 5-2 lead. Forwards Carter Bancks and Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond set up the play.

Texas stars a three game road trip on Friday, March 23 at Oklahoma City at 7:00 PM. The Stars then travel to Toronto for a 2 PM Faceoff against the Marlies on Sunday, March 25th. The Trip concludes on Tuesday March 27th at 6:00 PM against the Lake Erie Monsters. Texas returns home to face the Hamilton Bulldogs on Thursday, March 29th at 7:30 PM. Austin Smith should make Pro Debut on Friday VS. Oklahoma City

After Austin Smith's Colgate Career came to an end this past weekend with losses to Union College & Cornell in the ECAC Hockey Conference Championships, Austin according to several sources including Brandon Worley of Defending Big D saying that Smith signed a 2 Year Entry Level Contract last night and will be looking to make his Pro Debut on Friday Night when the Stars head North to play the Western Conference Leading Oklahoma City Barons when the Stars begin a 3 game road trip that will also include games against the Toronto Marlies on Sunday & against the Lake Erie Monsters in Cleveland on Tuesday Night.

This will make him the first Texan to ever make his Pro Debut and only the 2nd Player overall to make his Debut after Edmond's Matt Donovan made his AHL Debut last spring around this time and is in the middle of his first full AHL Season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (NY Islanders Affiliate).

Smith is ending a very long 5 year journey that was filled with doubts and him looking to presence of looking to show that he is a worthy prospect in the Dallas Stars Sizes. Doubts contained everything from his size where he was a very small but very fast 5'5" frame when he was playing for Gunnery Prep School in Connecticut during his Junior & Senior Years of High School before he was taken in the 2007 NHL Draft by the Stars. The doubts continued over the course of his career while at Colgate which isn't known as a great hockey team for the most part & including Smith never getting the Raiders to the NCAA Hockey Tournament during his Career.

After playing his final games of his NCAA Career at the ECAC Hockey Conference Championship and his frustrations when the game began to slip for the Colgate Raiders in their Conference Semifinal against the Eventual Champion Union College describing what his emotions were at that time. "I've never given up in a game before, ever. I always compete to the end," said Smith. "When it hit 5-1, I was trying to hold the tears back. The rest of the game I was circling and I had a million things going in my head. I wasn't very effective."

He told the College Hockey News' Rob Moore after the game ended. Smith went on to say, "I thought we dominated the first period and were with them for most of the second period. When we got that goal to make it 2-1, I believed more then anyone that we could win," said Smith. "By the middle of the third period though, he was beginning to think different thoughts. "That [fifth goal] was the goal for me where I realized it was the end of my career."

If Smith is looking to show the Stars that he is a strong prospect going forward, he needs to have a strong end to the American Hockey League Season where the Texas Stars are out of the playoff race and have been at or near the Bottom of the Western Conference for most of the last 2 months by providing a fresh energy and challenging some of the team's top prospects like Brendan Dillion & Matt Fraser as well as others like Colton Sceivour who's been getting the bill as one of the more underrated players in the AHL this season.

He will have 12 games to show the Stars that he can thrive in the Pro Game and be a force to be reckon with at the AHL Level and looking to show that he can be worthy of a Call Up next season. With the Stars having nothing to play for the rest of the season, Smith needs to show that he can make the Stars a hard team to play against as the Stars lost their 5th in a row with a 5-2 loss against Abbotsford last night and went just, 2-5, on the 7 game home stand that wrapped up last night.

Even though it took 5 years to get him from the Draft to signing with the Stars, he's still got a mountain of a journey in front of him as he looks to shine in Austin and show the Stars that he is worthy of playing for Dallas in the near future. With upcoming prospects like Rielly Smith, Scott Glennie, Jack Campbell, Matt Frasier & Brendan Dillion possibly on the horizon.

He will really have to work hard to stand out among the Stars improving Prospect Pool to earn a spot in Dallas in the future. With Austin's Speed, determination & scoring ability, he has spent his entire career to this point defining the odds and proving people wrong and he is looking forward to doing it again to play for his hometown Stars.

Hockey's Future has him ranked #13

Yesterday, Hockeys Future came out with their Dallas Stars Top 20 Prospects for the Spring as the NCAA & Canadian Hockey League Season is coming to an end. Smith has taken a strong jump from #18 to #13 after his strong season and being a Top 10 Candidate for the Hobey Baker Award which will be cut from 10 to 3 on March 29.

"What a year it has been for senior Austin Smith at Colgate University. After posting a career worst 10 goals last season, Smith exploded this season for a nation high 36 goals and a career best 57 points (four off the country's top spot). After offseason surgery, Smith has comeback healthy and confident and flying. He continues to be an all situation player with good speed and tremendous work rate, he has skated circles around the ECAC This season.

While he's not projected to be an elite scorer at the NHL level by any stretches of the imagination, he has a future as a quality utility man. He's not particular big or strong but he makes up for it with world class determination and a swagger that's hard to match. Smith will also certainly be signed after his collegiate career ends and will likely finish the year in Texas if the Stars management so chooses."





American Hockey League Week Ahead 2/22-26

As the Rampage enter the final portion of their annual Rodeo Road Trip, this week could be the most important 3-in-3 weekend sets of the season as San Antonio will be playing the Peoria Rivermen. Who till after last night, were in 7th & 8th Place in the Conference till the Rivermen got an important shootout win against the Abbotsford Heat after being down 2-0 just 6 minutes into the game.

Then were down, 3-2, for a majority of the 3rd period, until Adam Cracknell's 14th goal of the season tied the game with just 47 seconds left where the Rivermen was able to win in the shootout for a 4-3 victory where the Rivermen were able to jump to 6th Place in the Western Conference.

Abbotsford on the other hand has been falling in the West as they currently sit in 7th Place, this was after the Heat were in a very tight race with Houston & Oklahoma City for most of the 1st half of the season for both the Conference & Division Lead.

After San Antonio finishes the 2 games in Illinois, they will head to Wisconsin to play the Milwaukee Admirals Sunday Afternoon. This could be a make-or-break weekend for the Rampage who sit in 8th Place and after the Rodeo Road Trip wraps up with a game in Chicago on 2/29, the stretch drive will have the Rampage play 12 of the team's final 18 games in March & April and will provide a prime opportunity to further established themselves in the playoff picture.

One thing to keep in mind about the Rampage is that San Antonio has only made the playoffs twice in their decade long history & has never won a Division Title or Playoff Series in their history. The last time the Rampage made the playoffs was in 2007 where they lost in 7 games to the Toronto Marlies.

Following tonight's Home Game against the Texas Stars, the Barons will start on a 6 game road trip starting with a battle of Division Leaders against the Mid-West Division Leading Charlotte Checkers where OKC will have a great chance to pull away even further from both Charlotte & Toronto as they currently sit 5 points up on the Toronto Marlies & 6 points up on the Charlotte Checkers.

Following the trip to North Carolina, OKC will head to the Mid-West for a pair of games against Peoria, sandwiched with games against Grand Rapids & Chicago during the Trip as well.

Time is beginning to run out for the Texas Stars to get into the playoff race as they sit in 13th Place and are 9 points back of in state rival San Antonio for the 8th & final playoff spot. Things won't get any easier with a road game to the Conference Leading Oklahoma City Barons, followed by a weekend series against their In State Rival Houston Aeros.

Houston will be looking to take advantage of one of their lightest stretches of the season coming up as they will have just 3 games over the next week-and-a-half. Not only is the number of games at a minimum, but travel shouldn't be an excuse coming up as they will be heading to Austin for a Friday/Saturday Series against a Texas Stars Team who are looking to get out of the Western Conference basement. The Aeros are looking to get this 11 game extended road trip back on track where Houston is 2-4 so far after losing 3 straight to Milwaukee & a pair against Abbotsford last week.

This will be a great chance for the Aeros to get back into 4th Place and into the final Home Ice Spot for the AHL Western Conference Playoffs when they get underway in Mid-April. The Aeros will look to get back on track during the extended road trip prior to their 1st home game back when they return to the Toyota Center on March 10 against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Like the Rampage, the Aeros will have a heavy home schedule over the final 18 games where 13 of their final 18 will be at home. Including a stretch starting on March 29 where the Aeros will wrap up the regular season with 7 of their final 8 at home with their only road game during the final stretch drive against Oklahoma City on April 13 which is part of the regular season's closing weekend.

Texas Stars lose 3rd Straight at School Day Game

The Texas Stars Woes continue after losing their 3rd straight game and 7 of their last 8 overall with a 4-3 loss to the Lake Erie Monsters in front of nearly 9,000 screaming kids as the Monsters hosted their annual Grade School Field Trip Game at the Quicken Loans Arena in the Cleveland Area. Texas is looking for anything to get out of this slump as they continue to sit in the bottom of the Western Conference as they now sit 9 points back of the Peoria Rivermen for the 8th & Final Playoff Spot in the Western Conference. With just

Texas was almost able to get back in this game as Francis Wathier, Colton Sceviour & Scott Glennie were able to score their goals in a 4 and a half minute span late in the period after Lake Erie took a 3-0 lead late in the first period. However, the Stars couldn't find any other offensive action after that as an opening minute goal by Patrick Rissmiller put the Monsters over the top to give the team a 4-3 victory.

The Stars will look to turn around their fortunes at home after losing all 3 games on this road trip which also had losses to Rochester Americans (9-4) on 2/10 & the Hamilton Bulldogs (2-0) on 2/12. Next up will be a weekend home series against the San Antonio Rampage on Friday Night (7:30 PM) & Saturday Night (7:00 PM).

Lake Erie will head out on the road for a home-and-home series against the Rochester Americans on Friday & Saturday coming up this weekend. The Monsters have been red-hot recently by winning 6 of their last 7 games which have helped the Monsters climb to 9th Place and just a point out of the Playoff Race right now.

From Cleveland, Ohio: The Texas Stars (21-25-4, 46 PTS) were defeated by the Lake Erie Monsters (25-22-4, 54 PTS) in front of 8,933 fans at the Quick Loans Arena on Wednesday. Monsters Winger Patrick Rissmiller broke a 3-3 tie just 45 seconds into the third period and Lake Erie held on for a one goal win, extending the team's points' streak to seven games (6-0-1).

The Stars fought back with three goals in the last six minutes of the second period, earning a 3-0 deficit from the first period. Left Wings Francis Wathier registered the Gordie How hat trick, as Texas fell to 10-17-1 on the road this season. Forwards Angelo Esposito (2A) and Scott Glennie (1G, 1A) each had multi point games as the Stars concluded three game road trip. Lake Erie Goalie Gerald Coleman (8-2-1) made 30 saves in his ninth straight start. Texas Goalie Tyler Beskorowany (6-13-0) made 40 saves in the defeat, including 17 saves in the second period. Texas returns home to hose San Antonio on Friday, February 17th at 7:30 PM.

The Monsters started the scoring at 6:55 of the first period with a power-play goal by Greg Mauldin. The Lake Erie Forward snapped a wrist shot past Texas Goalie Tyler Bedkorowany for his tenth goal of the year and a 1-0 Monsters Lead. Right wing Brad Malone set up left wing Justin Mercier at 11:37 to make it 2-0 Monsters. Mercier finished off a two-on-one for his 12th goal of the year. Lake Erie closed out the first frame with its third its third goal of the period at 18:11. Center Mark Olver set up Dean Strong for his second goal of the season and a 3-0 lead. The Monsters out shot the Stars 18-8 in the opening frame.

The Stars responded with three goals in the last six minutes of the second period. The scoring spree started at 14:27 of the middle frame with a rebound goal by left wing Francis Wathier. Angelo Esposito and Stephen Schultz each had an assist on Wathier's tenth goal of the year, trimming the Lake Erie lead to 3-1. Texas struck again less then three minutes later at 17:13. Esposito and Scott Glennie each had an assist on Colton Sceviour's 12th goal of the year to make it 3-2. Sceviour found a rebound in the Monsters crease and shuffled it past Lake Erie goalie Gerald Coleman to bring his team within in a goal. Texas scored it's third unanswered goal in the closing minute to tie the game 3-3. Rookie Scott Glennie scored on the power play off a rebound at 19:06 of the middle period. His 11th goal of the season  came from defensemen Brad Lukowich and Wathier, tying the game 3-3.

Just forty-five seconds into the third period, Lake Erie's Patrick Rissmiller skated to the right-wing circle in the Texas zone and lifted a backhand shot over the glove of Beskorwany. Rissmiller's seventh goal of the year pushed the Monsters in front for good at 4-3.

Texas returns home on Friday, February 17th for a 7:30 PM, faceoff against the San Antonio Rampage, presented by Farmers Insurance. Friday's Game is a 3-2-1 night featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 Sodas & $1 Hot Dogs. The Stars will take on the Rampage again on Saturday, February 18th at 7:00 PM, presented by the Texas Lottery Commission. Texas Stars surge after being down 3-0 to beat Milwaukee

When the Stars & Admirals took the Ice at the Cedar Park Center last night, it quickly looked like that the Admirals were able to come away with a set sweep as the Admirals defeated the Stars 4-3 in OT back on Tuesday Night. Milwaukee took a quick 3-0 lead before the Stars took over the game with some amazing performances from Adam Pardy who was sent down from the Dallas Stars and brought back after a strong 3 assist performance last night.

Also included another 3 point nights from Scott Glennie as well. But perhaps the biggest night of all went to Ryan Garbutt who recorded a hat trick that was finished off with an empty netter with 1:47 left in the game to put the game away and win 6-3.

That win allowed Texas to gain some serious ground in the Western Conference Playoff Race by leap frogging both Hamilton & Rockford and are now even with the Grand Rapids Griffins. In addition, the Stars are just 2 points back of Lake Erie.

However, they are still 5 points back of 8th Place Peoria and will have to climb past 4 teams to get there as the Stars are getting ready to leave on a 3 game road trip out East with games against the Rochester Americans (Friday), Hamilton Bulldogs (Sunday) & Lake Erie Monsters (Wednesday).

The Stars return home on January 17th with a weekend series against the San Antonio Rampage who have been climbing in the standings by winning 7 in a row at one point in January to climb to 7th Place. And have their sights to overtaking teams like the Abbotsford Heat, Chicago Wolves & Houston Aeros who sit from 4th through 6th and are seperated by just 3 points.

Milwaukee Admirals 3  Texas Stars 6  (3-0, 0-2, 0-4)

From Cedar Park, Texas: Texas' Ryan Garbutt scored the first regular season home hat trick in team history and Matt Fraser and Scott Glennie scored goals in a minute and a half span of the third period to help complete a stirring comeback and grant the Stars a 6-3 win against Milwaukee before 4,158 fans at Cedar Park Center.

Garbutt's 3rd goal of the game, an empty netter, came at the 18:13 mark of the third period and was the fourth scored by the Stars while dominating the final period. Adam Pardy had three assists for Texas and Scott Glennie added two assists for a three point night.

The win also snapped a five game losing streak for Texas (21-22-2 44 PTS) who is five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the AHL's Western Conference with 29 games left in the season.

"Getting the hat trick was fun and all, but getting this win was the most important thing," said Garbutt, who now has 16 goals on the season, the second most on the team. "We showed the kind of character we have with this comeback tonight, and hopefully this win will get us going and we can carry the momentum forward."

Milwaukee (24-20-1 50 PTS) caught Texas flat footed in the early going, scoring three goals over a span of just eight minutes in the first period.

First, the Admirals Kyle Wilson skated right into left unabated across the goal crease before beating Texas Goalie Andrew Raycroft low on the stick side, giving Milwaukee a 1-0 lead at the 5:12 mark. Zack Stortini added to the advantage at the 11:05 mark where he sent home a rebound of a shot by Jani Lajunen.

Two minutes later, the Stars picked up a pair of penalties (one by Raycroft for hooking) that lead to a 5-on-3 opportunity for Milwaukee. The Admirals made Texas pay for their mistakes, as Chris Mueller swept a shot into the net for a power play goal and a 3-0 Milwaukee lead.

The Stars comeback began with Colton Sceviour's goal off a cross ice pass from Glennie and an assist by Brad Lukowich at the 6:04 mark of the second period.

Texas then clawed back to within 3-2 as Garbutt lit the lamp at 10:53.

Garbutt tied it just 59 seconds later into the third period and the Stars poured it on for the remainder of the game.

Texas Stars lost out in a strong goaltending battle

Just like the Dallas Stars later in the day against the St. Louis Blues, the Texas Stars ended up losing out in a 2-0 shutout to the Rockford Ice Hogs where despite 32 saves for Andrew Raycroft. The offense couldn't muster anything past Carter Hutton who made 31 saves in the Shutout Victory. This was also Brad Lukowich's 1000th career Professional Game as well as they were looking to make his big night a success as well.

This keeps the Stars down in last in the West Division and 14th Place in the Western Conference. It also didn't help that the San Antonio Rampage pulled off a big victory over the Abbotsford Heat who have been battling hard for the Western Conference Lead against the Houston Aeros & Oklahoma City Barons. Next up for the Stars is a hot Chicago Wolves Team who's just 2 points back of the Mid-West Division Leading Charlotte Checkers.

Updated AHL Standings

From Rockford, Illinois: The Texas Stars (17-18-3) were defeated by the Rockford Ice Hogs (15-21-4 34 PTS) 2-0 in front 4717 fans at the BMO Harris Bank Center on Monday Afternoon. Rockford center Carter Hutton (6-5-1) recorded his first shutout of the season, stopping all 31 Texas shots for the win. Goalie Andrew Raycroft (3-2-1) made 32 saves in the defeat, as the team fell to 9-11-1 on the road this year. Ice Hogs Brandon Svendson scored the eventual game winning goal at 8:49 of the second period and Rockford added an insurance goal in the third by Jeremy Morin. Texas Captain Brad Lukowich played in his 1,000 pro game in the defeat. Stars right wing Colton Sceviour had his six game scoring streak snapped as the club was shutout for the first time all season. Texas travels to Chicago for a game Wednesday at 7:00 PM to face the Wolves.

After a scoreless first period, Rockford claimed a 1-0 lead with the only goal of the 2nd period. IceHogs center Brad Pirri snapped a shot to the Texas Net from the bottom of the right wing circle. Texas goalie Andrew Raycroft made the save, but couldn't control the rebound. Rockford center Brandon Svendson poked in the puck for his 1st goal of the season at 8:49, giving the Hogs a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes of play.

In the third period, Rockford's Jeremy Morin banged in a rebound for his ninth goal of the year and a 2-0 lead with 3:59 left on the clock. Ben Smith and Brian Fahey each had an assist on the power play that rounded out the scoring.

Texas concludes a four game road trip in Chicago on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. The team will return home on Friday, January 20th to host Peoria at 7:30 PM on Friday Night. The first 2,500 fans to Friday's game will receive a player magnet courtesy of Time Warner Cable. Friday is also 3-2-1 night presented by Community Impact featuring $3 domestic drafts, $2 Sodas and $1 Hot Dogs. The Stars take on the Houston Aeros at home on Saturday, January 21st at 7:00 PM. Texas scores huge Final Minute win over Abbotsford

In what was a goaltenders duo in Austin last night, the Stars were looking to make sure that they wouldn't get crushed like how the Rampage were crushed by Abbotsford back on Tuesday Night. Both Andrew Raycroft & Danny Taylor made some great saves to keep the scoring low last night.

But both goalies gave up goals on what looked like to be some weak turnovers, including seeing Taylor getting pulled at the 2nd intermission just over a minute after Stephen Schultz broke the scoreless deadlock.

This was one of the biggest wins of the season for the Stars as the Heat are currently leading the Western Conference by just 1 point over the Houston Aeros & Oklahoma City Barons by a single point who are currently tied for 2nd in the Division.

To show you how tight the West Division & How strong all 3 teams are, is that all 3 teams would be division leaders in every other Division in the American Hockey League except the East Division where the Hershey Bears are leading with 53 points right now.

The Texas Stars will now begin a 4 game Mid-West Road Trip as they will get it started in Michigan to play the Grand Rapids Griffins, they will also play the Milwaukee Admirals, Rockford Ice Hogs & Chicago Wolves over the course of the Road Trip.

While Abbotsford will now head to Oklahoma City for a pair of games on Saturday Evening & Sunday Afternoon as 1st Place will be on the line once again in the Western Conference. Back in November, Abbotsford & Oklahoma City split a two game series in Oklahoma City with a pair of 4-1 games.

As for other AHL Games in the Southwest this weekend. The Aeros will be in Peoria for a weekend series against the Rivermen. While the San Antonio Rampage will only have one game this weekend at home against the lowly Rockford Ice Hogs. The Rampage are looking to comeback from a humiliating 5-0 defeat against Abbotsford back on Tuesday Night.

From Austin, Texas: The Texas Stars (16-16-3 35 PTS) defeated the Abbotsford Heat (23-11-3 49 PTS) in front of 3,640 fans at the Cedar Park Center on Wednesday Night. Stars Right Wing Colton Sceviour scored the game winning goal with 12 seconds remaining in the 3rd period. Forwards Stephen Schultz also scored for Texas, extending the team's point streak at 4 games (2-0-2). Sars Goalie Andrew Raycroft stopped 32 shots, as the Stars Improved to 8-7-2 at home. Abbotsford goalie Danny Taylor stopped 33 of 34 shots faced in the 1st 40 minutes of play. Joni Orto stopped 8 shots in relief, taking the loss for the Heat. Abbotsford center Quintin Laing scored the game tying goal for the Heat. Texas travels to Grand Rapids on Friday, January 13th at 6:00 PM (CST) to face the Griffins.

After a scoreless first period, Texas scored the opening goal of the night late in the 2nd period. Forward Stephen Schultz snuck the puck past Taylor with 1:04 remaining in the period. Schultz's fourth goal of the year went unassisted off a Heat Turnover, grabbing a 1-0 lead for the Stars.

Abbotsford tied the game at 1-1 as center Quintin Laing found the back of the net at 10:55 of the 3rd period. Defensemen Joe Piskula put up the assist on Lang's tenth goal of the season. Texas Right Wing Colton Sceviour netted the game winning goal with 12 seconds left in the final frame. Center Scott Glennie set up Sceviour's seventh goal of the season, closing out the 2-1 win.

Texas will embark on a four game road trip from January 13-18, making stops in Grand Rapids, Milwaukee, Chicago & Rockford. Texas will return home on Friday, January 20 to host Peoria at 7:30 PM. Southwest Regional Hockey Schedule for 1/9-15

Here's a look at this week's Southwest Regional Hockey Schedule coming up this week. The Stars are on the road in Southern California this week with games in Anaheim & Los Angeles coming up on Tuesday & Thursday as the team looks to eat into San Jose's Pacific Division Lead which is just 3 points, but at the same time be able to gain a lead on both the LA Kings who is currently tied for 2nd in the Division. And just 2 points ahead of the Phoenix Coyotes right now with 45 right now, so this would be a good time to gain some ground on both fronts.

As for the San Jose Sharks are also on the road against the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, Winnipeg Jets on Thursday Night & the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday Evening as well. Fortunately for the Sharks it's against teams that are closer to the bottom of the league as Columbus is dead last in the Western Conference & a Winnipeg Jets team who has been red hot right now which them currently in 9th place just 1 point back of Pittsburgh for the 8th & Final Playoff Spot in the Eastern Conference right now.

They will wrap up the week on Saturday Afternoon against the Colorado Avalanche. The team will also officially reach the half way point of the Regular Season and the run to the NHL All Star Break which will go from January 26-30 this year, with the Skills Competition on Saturday the 28 & the All Star Game it self will be on January 29 this season from the from the Scotiabank Center in Ottawa, Ontario.

The American Hockey League Teams will have on of their busier weeks of the season so far today as the Aeros will go on the Northern Part of their 4 Game Road trip after beating the San Antonio Rampage 4-3 yesterday with the help of a 2nd period surge with the help of Aeros Power Play Goals from Kris Foucault & Jon Disalvatore to help beat San Antonio and are back tied with the Abbotsford Heat for 2nd in the West Division & are just 3 points back of the Western Conference Leading Oklahoma City Barons.

Speaking of the Western Conference Leading OKC Barons, they have a 3 game in 3 night home stretch this weekend; which will include a pair of games against the Abbotsford Heat on Saturday Night & Sunday Afternoon with the West Division Lead likely on the line. It will depend however on how the Heat will do against the San Antonio Rampage on Tuesday Night & the Texas Stars on Wednesday Night to determine how much 'Heat' will be on the Barons to help protect the lead. It should be a pair of fiesty games for the Division Lead.

Back in November, the Barons & Heat split a weekend series with a pair of 4-1 games between the two teams. The Barons lead Abbotsford by 3 Points going into this week. In addition to the two games against Abbotsford, they will play the Rockford Ice Hogs who are currently dead last in the Western Conference

As for the American Hockey League All Star Game, it will be taking place on January 29 & 30 at the Boardwalk Hall Arena in Atlantic City, N.J. You can see the info on this year's event here and info on this year's roster here.

Saturday Night will be extremely busy for the AHL Teams as all 4 teams are in action against separate opponents. Texas is in Wisconsin to play the Milwaukee Admirals, Abbotsford will host the Oklahoma City Barons, the Houston Aeros are in Illinois to play the Peoria Rivermen and the Rampage hosting the Rockford Ice Hogs.

Elsewhere around the region on Thursday & Friday Night will have a critical battle for the 4th & Final Playoff spot in the South Division as the Odessa Jackalopes & Corpus Christi Icerays will play each other at the American Bank Center. The Icerays are currently leading for the 4th Spot by 4 points, so the Jackalopes will need to win both games in regulation to get to a tie for 4th.

The League will also have the Topeka Roadrunners & Amarillo Bulls each other as the Roadrunners are looking to overtake the Tornado for 2nd Place who have lost their lost 3; and allowed the Roadrunners to get within 2 points of 2nd Place and what would be 1st Round Home Ice in the NAHL Robertson Cup Playoffs.

In the Western States Hockey League, after a 3 game sweep of the Dallas Ice Jets in Grapevine over the weekend. The Rhinos have a chance to take the Mid-West Division Lead as the Rhinos will host the New Mexico Renegades this weekend. El Paso needs to get at least 3 of a possible 6 points to take the Division Lead which would at least be a win, an OT Loss & Regulation Loss or better this weekend.

Finally, it's a very busy weekend for U16AAA & U18AAA Teams with the MLK Weekend coming up.

At the U18 Level, The Dallas Stars Elites will head to Denver to play the Rocky Mountain Teams in their Tier 1 Elite League Showcase. The Ice Jets & Alliance Bulldogs will head to the High Performance Hockey League Showcase in Chicago. Finally the Texas Tornado U18 & U16 Teams will be in Troy, Michigan (just outside of Detroit) for one of the final NAPHL Regular Season.

The U16 Level will have the Stars Elites heading to Hingham, Mass (Just outside Boston). The Ice Jets will also be at the HPHL Showcase to play Shattuck St. Mary's as well as a trio of Detroit Powerhouses in Compuware, Honeybaked & Little Caesars during the MLK Weekend as well.

The TAHA State Tournament gets underway a month from tomorrow. So some teams who are going to looking to qualify for the Tier 2 State Tournament in Mid February will be looking to get in position to qualifiy for the Tournament next month.

Texas Stars lose 1st of 2 games in BC to Abbotsford

Thursday Night's AHL Game in Abbotsford, BC brought teams on opposite sides of the West Division Standings as the Heat continue to fight with Houston & OKC for both the West Division & Western Conference Lead in the AHL Western Conference. While Texas is looking to get out of the Western Conference Outhouse as the Stars continue to not be able to get above .500 again last night. The Stars & Heat will faceoff again tonight at 9:00 PM tonight where you can listen online on ESPN Austin.

In addition to the Texas Stars VS. Abbotsford Heat in their 2nd game of the back-to-back, the San Antonio Rampage & Houston Aeros faceoff tonight at 7:00 PM Tonight as well.

Texas Stars VS. Abbotsford Heat 12/30 Preview

From Abbotsford, B.C.: The Texas Stars (14-15-1 29 PTS) were defeated by the Abbotsford Heat (21-9-2, 44 PTS) 5-3 in front of 3,064 fans at the Abbotsford Entrainment & Sports Center on Thursday Night. Heat Goalie Danny Taylor made 42 saves and forward Krys Kolanos added 3 points in the team's third straight win over the Stars this season. Taylor stopped 16 shots in the 2nd period and all 13 in the 3rd period to improve to 11-5-0 on the season. Kolanos scored once and added two assists, as Abbotsford extended their streak to five straight games with a point on home ice. Heat forward Jon Rheault set up three goals, as his team moved to 7-4-0 against Texas all time. Forwards Stephen Schultz, Scott Glennie, & Colton Sceviour each scored, as Texas falls to 8-8-0 on the road this year. Texas Goalie Tyler Beskorowany (6-9-0) stopped 24 shots in the defeat. Texas remains in Abbotsford for a rematch with the Heat tonight on December 30 at 9:00 PM (CT).

The Stars struck first with the games opening goal at 3:59 of the 1st period. Texas rookie Scott Glennie snapped a wrist shot past goalie Danny Taylor from the right wing circle, giving the Stars a 1-0 lead. The Heat answered back with a pair of goals in less then five minutes, starting with Quintin Laing's 8th goal of the season. Forwards Kris Kolanos and defensemen Brendan Mikkelson each had an assist on the power play goal that tied the game 1-1. Kolanos would give Abbotsford a 2-1 lead at 11:35, scoring his 16th goal of the year off a wraparound. Forwards Jon Rheault & Ben Walter both picked up an assist, as the Heat carried a 2-1 lead into the 1st intermission.

In the 2nd period, the Stars pulled even with the Heat at 4:48 with a goal by Colton Sceviour. Scott Glennie set up Sceviour's 5th goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2. Abbotsford countered to re-gain the lead at 11:42, Akim Aliu scored from behind the Texas Net, banking a shot off the skate off Texas Goalie Beskorowany for his 1st goal of the year and a 3-2 Heat lead. The Stars tied the game for the third time at 14:29, as Stephen Schultz scored his 2nd goal of the year. Schultz slipped a rebound past Danny Taylor after Matt Frasier's first attempt was blocked. Travis Morin also added an assist on the play, which extended Frasier's scoring streak to 10 games. Heat defensemen Chris Breen pushed Abbotsford back into the lead in front 4-3 at 15:56 of the 2nd period. Breen lifted a shot from the left point, through traffic and past Beskorowany for his 1st goal of the year.

In the 3rd period, Heat forward Guillaume Desbiens scored his second goal of the season at 13:22 for the 5-3 Abbotsford lead. Jon Rheault set up the goal, registering his third assist of the night.

The Stars play in Abbotsford for one more game on December 30. The team will also play in San Antonio on January 6, prior to returning home on January 7 to host Rockford at 7:00 PM. The 1st 2,500 fans to the game will receive a Texas Stars Team Calender, compliments of A+ Federal Credit Union. This Weeks Southwest Schedule

After the Dallas Stars 5-0 crushing against Colorado back on Saturday Night, the Stars have plenty of time and plenty to think about as they look to rebound with several days off as they don't hit the ice again until Thursday Night when they start a 2 game, 2 night road-trip to Southern California as the Stars will take on the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday and the Anaheim Ducks on Friday Night.

Then the team will return home as the Stars will faceoff against the Ducks, Kings and Avalanche again next weekend.

So it will be interesting to see how the Stars will react to some the same opponent's and hit the video room to take a look at how to take down the Avalanche after losing 5-0 and looking to take down their Pacific Division Rivals.

This will be an interesting test as the Stars won't have more then two nights rest between next week and just before the Christmas Rest Period after the December 23 game against the Calgary Flames.

It's a busy week for the San Antonio Rampage and Houston Aeros as both teams will be playing 4 games this week.

For the Rampage, it's a short trip to Oklahoma City on Tuesday Night, then a 3 game home-stand as the Rampage will play back-to-back games on Thursday and Friday Night against the Rockford Iceogs as the Rampage will be battling for 2nd place in the West Division as of right now and it could be for the West Division Lead if San Antonio beats Oklahoma City tonight.

For the Rampage, it will be a Sunday Afternoon tilt against the Chicago Wolves who's looking to climb back up in the Division after winning the West Division last year and getting knocked out by the Texas Stars last year.

Houston is in the middle of a 4 game road-trip with a pair of road-trips to Abbotsford, BC and Peoria. Last night for the Aeros, it looked like it would be a win for the Aeros. But after a late comeback, the Heat ended up winning in a shootout and will faceoff again tonight.

After tonight, it's a long flight to Illinois as the Aeros play the Rivermen coming up on Saturday & Sunday which is in the middle of a string where they are currently playing 7 of their next 8 away from H-Town.

The next time the Aeros will head home will be for a single game on November 17 against the Chicago Wolves.

Both OKC & Texas will have slow weeks as the Stars will play only one game this week against the Chicago Wolves coming up on Wednesday Night.

 The Barons are in the middle of an 8 game home-stand and will only play twice this week as they will play San Antonio tonight and then Chicago on Friday Night, then it's a full week off as the Barons won't play again until November 19 against the Texas Stars.

Who can stop the Tornado?

That is the question that the Corpus Christi Icerays will try to figure out as the team's 12 game winning streak is currently the longest of the season and has taken the Tornado to the top of the entire NAHL with a 14-2-3 record with 31 points.

And with a number of players getting named to the NAHL Top Prospects Tournament next month on both sides, the pressure will be on to perform as they will be under a big spotlight as they look to sign NCAA Scholarships.

Philip Larsen called up with Stephane Robidas suspended for Thrusday's Game against LA

With Stephane Robidas getting a 5 minute Boarding Major along with a game miscoudnt in last night's 5-2 loss against the Anaheim Ducks when he rammed Anaheim Winger Matt Belesky midway through the 3rd period when he rammed the boards in a hit that wasn't as bad as it seemed.

 Due to him picking up a 2nd Boarding Major in less then half-a-season (41 games) he has picked up an automatic 1 game suspension and will have to sit out tomorrow night's game against the LA Kings.

To fill in for Robidas tomorrow night will by 20 Year Old Danish Defensemen Philip Larsen who's playing his first full season in the American Hockey League with the Texas Stars. So far in the AHL Season, he's played in 6 games and has contributed 2 assists in his time.

This continues with the youth movement that the Stars are continuing to do this season to take a more serious look at their young guys in Texas this season. Going on with theme when Aaron Gagnon was brought up for one game back on October 18 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. They were plans to bring up Swiss Defensemen Severin Blindenbacher, but couldn't because of a minor injury substained in a car accident last week.

The Dallas Stars announced today the club has recalled defensemen Philip Larsen from the Texas Stars, Dallas's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

Defensemen Stephane Robidas has received an automatic one game suspension from the NHL and will miss Thursday's home game against the Los Angeles Kings. Robidas was assessed his second game misconduct within 41 games in the boarding/checking from behind category on Robidas is subject to the automatic one game suspension. He is eligible to return to action for Saturday's game against Buffalo.

Larsen, 20, has skated in six games for Texas this season, collecting two assists. Last season he appeared in two games for Dallas and recorded one assist. Larsen spent the majority of the 2009-2010 season with Vastra Frolunda HC of the Swedish Elite League where he played 42 games and posted 10 points (1G 9A) and 20 penalty minutes. He was Dallas' fifth round selection (149th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

The Dallas Stars will face the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow (7:30 PM, TV: FSN Southwest, Radio; Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket).

Texas Stars get revenge against Peoria with 3-0 Shutout

Just a few days after the Peoria Rivermen shutout the Texas Stars 2-0, the Texas Stars got a 3-0 shutout in what was a very similar played game as the Texas Stars Backup Goalie Richard Bachman got only his 2nd career Shutout in the American Hockey League while getting out-shot 38-23 in the game.

After a decent home-stand where the Stars went 3-2 in the last 5 with wins over Lake Erie, Peoria & San Antonio, the Stars head out on the road for 4 of their next 5 with games tonight and tomorrow against the Rockford Icehogs and the Chicago Wolves as they will play both teams for the first time since they beat them both in the 1st 2 Rounds of the playoffs last year.

From Austin, Texas: The Texas Stars defeated the Peoria Rivermen 3-0 on Tuesday Night in front of 5,013 fans at the Cedar Park Center. Texas Goalie Richard Bachman saved all 38 shots in his first start of the season for the shutout. Stars Defensemen Dan Spang netted the game-winning goal 4:15 into the first period for the Stars first win over Peoria this season. Forwards Cody Chupp and Travis Morin also added tallies in the victory. Peoria Goalie Ben Bishop stopped 20 saves in the defeat. The Stars travel to Rockford on Wednesday Night at 6:35 PM CDT.

Texas scored an early power play goal in the first period at 4:15. Defensemen Dan Spang scored his first goal of the season with help from Tomas Vincour and Travis Morin to take a 1-0 first period lead.

Stars forward Cody Chupp scored in the second period to push Texas to a 2-0 lead at 7:14 Chupp first pro goal was assisted by Luke Gazdic and Tristian King.

The Stars added their final goal to take a 3-0 lead with 5:22 minutes in the remaining period. Travis Morin tipped a shot from the point from Trevor Ludwig, scored his fourth goal of the season. Ludwig and Vincour assisted on the late period goal.

Stars travel to Rockford to face the Icehogs Wednesday, October 27 at 6:35 PM and to Chicago to play the Wolves on Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 PM. After a pair of road games, the Stars return home on Saturday, October 30 to face the Houston Aeros at 7:00 PM. The Stars will host the first ever "Pink in the Rink Night" at the Cedar Park Center presented by Cedar Park Regional Center. The first 2500 fans will receive a pink aluminum water bottle to raise breast cancer awareness. The Jerseys will be auctioned off with 50 percent of the proceeds donated to the Austin Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Despite outshoting Peoria 36-19, Jake Allen stumps the Stars 2-0

On a night where the Stars had the offense going for them, including out-shooting the Rivermen 36-19 and having 5 PP Chances throughout the game as well as keeping the Rivermen keeping the number of shots down and getting lower as the game went out (8 in the 1st, 6 in the 2nd and 5 in the 3rd).

Without a doubt the player of the game was Peoria Rivermen Goalie Jake Allen as he stopped all 36 Texas Stars Shots to stun and frustrate the Texas Stars Offense and the crowd of 4438 all night long as the Rivermen took down the Stars 2-0 at the Cedar Park Center on Saturday Night.

Texas Stars Goalie Brent Krahn had 17 saves on 19 shots while Peoria had goals from Nicholas Drazenovic in the first period. Then later on in the 3rd, Rivermen Center Phil Mcrea has had a good start to his pro career for the 20 year old as he scored his 4th goal of the year, along a pair of assists that take him to 6 points in 9 games so far this season.

From Austin, Texas: The Texas Stars were defeated by the Peoria Rivermen 2-0 on Saturday Night in front of 4,438 fans at Cedar Park Center on Saturday Night. Peoria Rookie Goalie Jake Allen made 36 saves on the night for his first career pro shutout. Peoria's Nicholas Drazenenovic and Phil Macrea both scored to lead the Rivermen to their seventh straight win. Texas Goalie Brent Krhan stopped 17 saves in the defeat. The Stars will host the Peoria Rivermen at 7:30 PM on Tuesday Night as well.

Peoria Center Nicholas Drazenovic scored the lone first period goal quickly in the first period at 3:37. His sixth goal of the season was assisted by defensemen Derek Peltier and Ian Cole for the 1-0 lead.

After a scoreless second period, center Phil Macrea tallied the second Peoria goal with 3:26 remaining in the third period. Mcrea's fourth goal of the season was set up by Brennan Evans for the 2-0 final.

The Stars will conclude the five game home-stand on Tuesday with Peoria at 7:30 PM. Every Tuesday, fans may bring in H-E-B store brand non-perishable food product to receive a $5.00 discount the off the ticket price. After a pair of road games, the Stars will return home Saturday, October 30 to face the Houston Aeros at 7:00 PM.
