Texas HS Hockey Playoffs Update

Last night in Farmer's Branch, the Gold Division Semifinals took place last night and both games were fantastic to watch. Including some of the things including both games going into OT, great crowds from all 4 teams and a lot of motivated players hoping to get to play for a League Championship tomorrow night.

Here's the reports from last night.

#3 Dallas Jesuit VS. #9 Southlake Carroll

The Dragons of Southlake continue their huge run which has included knocking out both the top seeded Allen Eagles and the #3 Dallas Jesuit Rangers last night. The game started cautionary last night as the Dragons made it clear early that they would not be an easy target because of their low seed, players like Marcel Toure and Blake Beall have helped lead the Dragons before Zack Halle got the scoring going with a goal with 4 minutes left in the 1st period to make it 1-0. The Dragons continued going forward and went on during the entire game where they out shot the Rangers 31-20 throughout the night. Early in the 2ND period, 2 5 on 3 goals by Will Leedy and Chris Boe just 2 minutes apart put the Rangers up 2-1. However, Dallas Jesuit didn't look very convincing following the 2 goals to put them ahead ever more where the Dragons were out shoot 20-13 through 2 periods. Despite a strong PP to get the 5 on 3s, they couldn't get anything else going with the refs letting them play with only 4 penalties for Jesuit and 3 for Carroll. The 3rd period saw where the Rangers tried to sit on the lead and both goalies started to turn up their games with some big saves by both Drew Baney and Louis Daley to keep the game at 2-1 till Marcel Toure scored on the PP with 5:20 left in the 3rd to tie at 2-2 with assist coming from Tim Hennessy. With the game going into OT and then a shootout, SO Goals from Marcel Toure and Tim Hennessy helped put the Dragons into the Championship tomorrow night. While the Rangers will look forward to the State Tournament as they will be the 3rd seed from Dallas.

#5 Flower Mound VS. #7 FM Marcus

The 2ND game of the night was the mound showdown as the Marauders and Jaguars played each other in the one of the biggest hockey games in the rivalrie's history. This one got off to a fast start for Flower Mound by going up 2-0 just over 5 minutes into the game by goals scored by Kennedy Oleary where the first one was scored with an unassisted goal while the 2nd one was on the PP with the assist on a great pass by Donohue. Marcus had a slow start which included having only getting off 7 shots at the half way through the game before FM Marcus F. Patrick Price scored to make it 2-1 at the 6:08 mark of the 2nd period, after Marcus made it 2-1, things got testy on the ice which included a couple of fights almost breaking out between Brandon Mahoney and Michael Sutton which eventully lead to a couple of unsportsman like conduct penalties. After the fights, a SH Goal by Dannye Bell just killed Marcus's condfedince to make it 3-1 with 3 minutes left, however just seconds later, FM Marcus F Patrick Price nearly responds to make it 3-2 but a huge save by Flower Mound Goalie Byran Mills just stoned him. Then with nearly a minute left, Adrian Acee made it 4-1 with assist from Oconnor and Newton made it to where FM Marcus was just looking lost at the end of the 2nd where they were outshot 21-13 at the end of 2. After the 2nd intermission, Flower Mound was looking to sit and defend their lead, however FM Marcus leading goal scoreer, David Wirth made it 4-2 with his 30th of the year (Reg. Season and Playoffs Combined) at 5:41 mark of the game where it started a change of momentum and Marcus were starting to take advantage of Flower Mound's tiring offenseive players. Then with 6 minutes left, Marcus made it 4-3 a Brendan Mcguire unassisted goal with 6 minutes left and then beleive or not, a 4-4 tie with Dane Nichols with the assist comming from Mcguire. Then the goalies took over, espically a huge save by Sean Garvey where he had to stop a flury of shots with just under 2 minutes left. After the 3rd, it looked like Marcus had the momentum going into OT. However, just 20 seconds into the extra period, Adrian Acee scored an unassisted goal to win the game and get them into the Championship game tomorrow night. For Marcus they will be the Dallas 4 seed going into the State Tournament which begins on Friday at the Chaparral Ice Center in Austin.

For tomorrow night's championship, it will be 2 of the lower seeded teams and somewhat unexpected teams playing for the Gold Division Championship as the #9 Southlake Carroll Dragons will take on the #5 Flower Mound Jaguars. In the Silver Division Championship, it's the top 2 seeds between the Arlington Martin Warriors and the Bishop Lynch Friars for the Silver Division Title.
