Dallas Stars sign Jack Campbell

Back on Thursday Night, the Dallas Stars officially signed 1st Round Draft Pick Jack Campbell who's currently with the OHL's Windsor Spitfires to the standard 3 year entry contract which won't go into effect until he makes his NHL Debut.

My concern is that Campbell has been off to a sluggish start in the OHL with Windsor this season, so through 13 games played as he just has a 6-6-0 record with a 3.82 GAA & a .881 SV% and with these numbers, it could jeopardize the amount of playing time he's expected to get at the upcoming World Junior Championships which starts on December 26 in Buffalo, New York as the Canadians are looking to return to the Top of the Podium after losing in a very exciting Gold Medal Game 6-5 against the Americans last season.

When you have guys like Gormley and Fowler who were selected by Pacific Division Rivals Anaheim and Phoenix. Fowler did make the Anaheim Ducks this year and has 3 points (1G 2A) through 8 games.

As for Brandon Gormley, is back with the Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL) but he is beginning to shred the league with 16 points and leads the Moncton Wildcats in defensemen scoring as the Wildcats are looking to defend the QMJHL Title and get back to the Memorial Cup after the team went winless in the Round Robin against the Calgary Hitmen, Brandon Wheat Kings and the 2 time defending Memorial Cup Champion Windsor Spitfires.

As for the Dallas Stars picking Jack Campbell, many are questioning and still question on taking a goaltender when the Stars could have easily filled a major hole in defense and get a player who slipped from the top 5 who could have maybe been on the team this season or shortly there after. Goalies always take a long time to develop and this is why many teams don't goalies high in the NHL Draft.

The big test for me is if he can recover and have a strong World Junior Championship coming up over the Winter Holidays. If he can't, then the Stars may have to wonder about him panning out to be a big time NHL Goalie.

In addition, tonight's game vs. the Colorado Avalanche will be on FSN Plus. This is a change where the game was originally scheduled to be on TXA 21 in the DFW Area.

Dallas Stars Press Release: The Dallas Stars announced today that the club have signed goaltender Jack Campbell to a three year entry level contract. Campbell was Dallas' first round selection (#11) in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

Campbell, 18, is currently playing for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, having appeared in 12 games so far this season with a 6-5-0 record, a 3.81 GAA and an .882 SV%.

"Jack is a very promising player for the future of our organization," said Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk. "He has a strong work ethic and we are looking forward to watching him develop as his career progresses."

The 6'3", 175 pound net-minder played for the US National Team Developmental Program last season, going 6-3-1 with a 2.21 GAA and a .917 SV%. He also has represented the USA at the 2010 World Junior Championship, as well as both the 2009 and 2010 U18 World Championships. Campbell lead the Americans to Gold at all 3 tournaments.

Campbell will continue to play with the Windsor Spitfires this season and is expected to participate in the Stars 2011 Summer Developmental Camp and the team's 2011 Training Camp.

Windsor Crushes Brandon a 2nd time to clinch Memorial Cup Title, 9-1

The Spitfires clinched the Memorial Cup Championship the same way they started with a 9-1 win to clinch the CHL Memorial Cup Championship for the 2nd straight year. With the win, the Spitfires become the first team in 15 years to win back-to-back Memorial Cup Tournaments after the Kamloops Blazers did it in 1994 and 1995.

The teams 9 goals were scored by 8 different players with Adam Henrique leading the way with 2 goals and an assist. Other players with three point nights included Taylor Hall (1G 2A). Other big nights came from Greg Nemisz, Eric Wellwood and Zack Kassian all had a goal and an assist. Other notable performances included Ryan Ellis with 3 assists, while Justin Shugg and Kenny Ryan who each had two assists apiece in the Championship game that was never in doubt for the Spitfires.

Matt Calvert scored the only Wheat Kings goal of the night on a great set up for a one timer from Scott Glennie. Despite the two blowouts for the Wheat Kings, it won't take away from a great season which included a WHL East Division Title. Getting to the WHL Conference Finals for the 2nd straight year and coming back after a bad night to wrap up the round robin against Calgary to win the Semifinal in OT.

There is no doubt that the Spitfires are the class of the Major Juniors and they will go down as one of the greatest teams in junior hockey history.

In Brandon, Manitoba: Adam Henrique and Ryan Ellis each registered three points each while the Spitfires recorded 52 shots on goal en route to a strong 9-1 victory over the host Brandon Wheat Kings to win the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup.

The Spitfires become just the 8th Team in CHL History to win back-to-back titles, and the first team since the Kamloops Blazers in 1994 & 1995.

Adam Henrique opened the scoring at 6:34 with a wrist-shot which he directed between the pads of Jacon De Serres. Then, with 33 seconds left in the first period, the Spitfires doubled their lead. The Wheat Kings failed to clear the puck causing a turnover in their own zone which opened the door for Eric Wellwood who jumped on a loose puck and beat De Serres top shelf.

Windsor took a 3-0 advantage 4:34 into the 2nd period whith Brent Raedeke in the penalty box for slashing. Taylor Hall let go a powerful wrist shot from the left faceoff dot that found an opening over the goalie's shoulder.

The Wheat Kings cut the lead to two less then 4 minutes later. Matt Calvert recorded his third goal of the MasterCard Memorial CUp on the powerplay. But it wasn't long before the Spitfires added to the lead. After a lengthy review from the video booth, Nemisz's goal was confirmed, putting Windsor up 4-1. Zach Kassian and Cam Fowler added markers prior to the end of the 2nd period to put the game out of reach.

Zach Kassian, Adam Henrique and Dale Mitchell recorded goals in the third period. Philipp Gruaber made 27 saves for his 4th win of the tournament. Following the game, Taylor Hall was awarded the Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy as the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup MVP, his second in as many years. He completed the tournament with 5 goals and 4 assists.

Of note, Cam Fowler became just the 21st player in history to win both an IIHF Gold Medal at the IIHF World Junior Championship as well as a Memorial Cup Title in the same year. His teammate, Ryan Ellis, accomplishment the feat last year.

Of the players who also managed to win both titles in the same year is former Brandon Wheat King Trevor Kidd who gold in 1991 before winning a Memorial Cup with the Spokane Chiefs. Kidd participated in the opening ceremonies in the opening game.

Despite a strong showing, Wellwood's OT Winner knockout Wildcats

Despite playing giving one of the best efforts in this year's playoffs and Memorial Cup, Windsor's Eric Wellwood showed why the Spitfires are the defending Champions and looking to defend the Memorial Cup.

His OT Game Winner 12 minutes into the extra period gave the Spitfires a perfect 3-for-3 in the Round Robin and officially clinched a spot in Sunday's Championship Game. For Moncton, despite going up 3-2 early in the 3rd period, the lead didn't last long as Stephane Johnston scored his first of the tournament to tie the game at 3-3.

A total of 33 shots (20-13 in favor of Windsor) were shot as both teams were looking to get the win. A Moncton win would have forced a tie-breaker against the loser of today's Calgary VS. Brandon Winner, but it wasn't to be as the Spitfires turned it on in the OT by out-shooting the Wildcats 13-2, but Moncton Goalie Shane Owen who in for Riopel played very well by stopping 48 of 52 shots just couldn't handle it any longer as he gave up the goal to Wellwood that knocked them out of this year's tournament.

So Windsor will have 4 days off as they will face either Brandon or Calgary in Sunday's Memorial Cup Final. While Brandon and Calgary will finish the round-robin tonight as they size up each other for Friday's Semifinal.

In Brandon, Manitoba: Eric Wellwood of the Windsor Spitfires scored 12:22 into OT to lead the defending MasterCard Memorial Cup Tournament Champions to a 4-3 OT Victory over the Moncton Wildcats.

The Wildcats came out of the game determined to avoid elimination, limiting the Spitfires scoring opportunities with an aggressive fore-check. Randy Cameron broke out of the late stages of the first period. He beat goaltender Philipp Grubauer at 18:36 with a solid wrist-shot on the power-play. It didn't take long for the defending Memorial Cup Champions long to even it up. Cam Fowler redirected a Justin Shugg point shot past Shane Owen with 8 seconds to go in the period. Owen was making his first start of the tournament in place of Nicola Riopel would could not compete due to illness.

Moncton managed to out-shot Windsor 16-12 in the opening frame.

Shugg put the Spitfires up by one in the Early stages of the second period by tipping a great Taylor Hall feed. The rest of the period belonged to the goaltenders with both making a sense of spectacular saves to keep the score 2-1.

There was a lot of excitement in the opening minutes of the third period. Wildcats captain Scott Brannon tied the score up at 2-2 at 2:32 with a hard slap from the blue-line with Mark Cundari and Gabriel Bourque in the penalty box for roughing. Less then a minute later, defensemen Brandon Gormley's blast from the point fooled Grubauer.

But the Spitfires battled back. Stephane Johnson registered his first goal of the tournament to even things up at 4:47.

Gabriel Bourque almost ended it in the closing seconds of the third period, but he hit the crossbar with twenty seconds to play.

Eric Wellwood, a 2009 Philadelphia Flyers draft pick, won it for the Spitfires 12:22 into overtime. He was named the game's third star. Justin Shugg received the first star when Randy Cameron was named the second star.

Game six of the MasterCard Memorial Cup will get going at 7:00 PM as the WHL Champions and Tournament Host Brandon Wheat Kings will began to size each other up for Friday's Semifinal. Taylor Hall has game to win 6-2, Clinches Top Spot in Round Robin

Expected #1 Draft Pick Taylor Hall had a huge game for the Spitfires as he scored two goals and added two assists in the 6-2 win over the WHL Champion Calgary Hitmen. With the win, Windsor moves to 2-0-0 in the Round Robin and basically with in touching distance of beating Moncton and clinching a spot for Sunday's Championship Game.

Other players like Dale Mitchell, Cam Fowler and Kenny Ryan also added some critical points as the Spitfires used a 3 goal 3rd period to turn a 3-2 game where Calgary's Jimmy Bubnick who scored both goals for the Hitmen in this game.

Philipp Grubauer had another huge game for the Spitfires as he made 25 saves in the win, and for the entire tournament he's stopped 55 of 60 shots in the two games and with the dangerous offense. Grubauer hasn't been asked to feel like the best goalie in the world that so many players go under in big time playoff games. Calgary's net-minder Martin Jones stopped 31 of 36 shots in the game.

Windsor will go at it again tonight as the Spitfires will look to finish the round-robin with a perfect 3-for-3 and knockout the Moncton Wildcats tonight. While Calgary will take on Brandon on what could be a Semifinal Preview if the Tie Breaker Game is not needed.

From Brandon, Manitoba: Taylor Hall added two goals and added two assists to lead the Windsor Spitfires to a convincing 6-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen while also helping them clinch a berth in the MasterCard Memorial Cup Championship Game on Sunday.

Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Dale Mitchell gave the Spitfires the lead at 2:38 into the first frame. He directed a wrist-shot behind a screen Martin Jones. Just over a minute later, Taylor Hall registered his 3rd goal of the tournament with a hard slap shot from the top of the faceoff circle.

In the 2nd period, Justin Shugg put Windsor up three at 8:15 and the Spitfires seemed to be rolling towards another big win before Jimmy Bubnick recorded a marker at 14:56. Just over three minutes later, it was Bubnick again taking it to goaltender Philipp Grubauer. He made a nifty move, cut inside and flickered a wrist shot between the goaltender's pads.

Hall re-gave the Spitfires a two goal lead 12 seconds into the 3rd period by intercepting a soft pass in Calgary's zone and beat Jones five hole on a breakaway.

Kenny Ryan and Adam Wallace added goals late in the 3rd period to seal the win.

Philipp Grauber made 25 saves while Calgary Goalie Martin Jones made 31 saves on 37 shots in the loss that takes them to 1-1 in the Round Robin.

Taylor Hall earned first star honors while Jimmy Bubnick and Dale Mitchell were also recognized by getting the 2nd and 3rd stars of the game.

Game 5 of the MasterCard Memorial Cup will see the Spitfires looking to go 3-0 and clinch a Championship Game spot on Sunday. For Moncton, it's win or go home for the Wildcats as a win is needed to force a tie Breaker Game on Thursday Night. As always, you can watch it on Sportsnet and the NHL Network in the USA. Windsor crushes Brandon in Memorial Cup Opener 9-3

Windsor is looking primed and willing that a 2nd straight Memorial Cup Title is in their reach after a 9 goal outburst in this year's Tournament Opener. All the usual weapons were on hand for the Spitfires with Taylor Hall, Adam Henrique and Scott Timmins each scoring twice in the victory.

Goals also came from Kenny Ryan, Zack Kassian and Dale Mitchell as well. In addition to the win as well saw Philipp Gruaber who's having a monster playoff run with 30 saves in the game to keep the Wheat Kings far and away from impressing the huge crowd of nearly 5400 quiet and stunned in the opener.

The only time that Brandon was able to comeback and fire some of their own was in garbage time Matt Calvert, Jay Fehr and Aaron Lewadniuk who scored late in the 2nd and the 3rd.

Goaltending wise it was a very rough day for the Wheat Kings as the goaltending duo split the time and nothing could help them out. Jacob De Serres gave up 4 goals on shots while Andrew Hayes gave up 5 in the first period which included 4 in the first 5 minutes.

Up next for Windsor is the Calgary Hitmen on Monday Night while the Brandon Wheat Kings will need to comeback for Sunday's Game against the Moncton Wildcats.

From Brandon, Manitoba: The Windsor Spitfires scored four unanswered goals in the first five minutes of play to open the 2010 Mastercard Memorial Cup, defeating the Brandon Wheat Kings 9-3 in front of a crowd of 5381 at the Westman Place inside the Keystone Center.

Although the Wheat Kings made their presence felt in the opening minute of the game with several bone crunching hits, the Spitfires put the game out of reach early as Kenny Ryan, Scott Timmins, Adam Henrique and Taylor Hall all recorded markers within the first 5 minutes of play. Taylor Hall scored his second goal of the night at 18:23, putting Windsor up 5-0 after the first twenty minutes.

Wheat Kings Head Coach Kelly Mccrimmon gave the nod to back up goaltender Jacob De Serres in the 2nd period. But that changed little to disrupt the Spitfires who registered their sixth goal of the game at 1:15 courtesy of Adam Henrique.

Scott Timmins and Dale Mitchell added markers before the Wheat Kings finally got on the board thanks to winger Adam Lewadniuk. Unfortunately for the hometown Wheaties, Zach Kassian scored a late one to put the Spitfires up 9-1 late in the 2nd period.

Goal Scorers in the third period included Matt Calvert and Jay Fehr.

Philipp Gruaber made 30 saves to earn the win goal for the Spitfires.

Adam Henrique was named the game's first star, with Spitfires defensemen Mark Cundari named the games 2nd star, and Hall was named the Third Star of the Game.

OHL Championship Game 4: Hall & Fowler come up big to Clinch 2nd straight OHL Championship

Windsor's biggest superstars in Cam Fowler & Taylor Hall each scored twice for the Spitfires to lead the team to complete the sweep and win the OHL Championship for the 2nd straight year and to get back to the Memorial Cup for the 2nd straight year where they will heading to Brandon, Manitoba to defend the teams Memorial Cup. For the Spitfires, they will open the tournament against the Hosts Brandon Wheat Kings to start out on the opening day on May 14.

Expect the Spitfires to also play the Calgary Hitmen as they won Game 3 to go up 3-0. Then in the QMJHL, Moncton leads The best-of-7 series 2-1 after St. John's win last night.

From Windsor, Ontario: The Windsor Spitfires have won the Robertson Cup as the OHL Champions for the 2nd straight year with a 4 game sweep of the Barrie Colts in the OHL Championship Series.

Taylor Hall & Cam Fowler scored two goals each to pace the Spitfires to a 6-2 win on Tuesday to complete the series and give the Spitfires their 2nd straight trip to the Memorial Cup.

"We came into this series hockey ready and I think we were a little bit rusty," Hall said. "I think that we worked to our advantage."

The Spitfires won the tournament last year in Rimouski, QC and will open up this year's tournament in Brandon, MB against the Host Wheat Kings next Friday.

"We have some guys on our team that they are a little bit banged up," Hall said. "That break is going to work to our advantage and hopefully we can take advantage of it in Brandon."

Luke Pither opened the scoring for the Colts on a power-play in the first period but Fowler responded in the final minute of the opening frame.

Hall, Fowler, and Adam Henrique all scored in the second period and then Scott Timmins - who won the Robertson Cup for the third time in a row - and Hall rounded out the scoring in the 3rd period. Ryan Ellis had three assists and Philipp Grubauer made 32 saves in the victory.

"It's unbelievable," said Henrique. "We wanted to do it for the fans here. We knew we had a great chance to win it at home tonight. Its a great thing that we were able to do it at home."

Matt Kennedy also scored for the Colts and Peter Di Savo allowed 5 goals on 38 shots in the loss.

It was the Spitfires 8th straight win after coming back from 3-0 down to beat Kitchener in the Western Conference Final.

"I don't know if we learned a lesson from that, but I do know we showed our true colors again - our perseverance and our character in the dressing room," said Spitfires Head Coach coach Bob Boughner. "We had to bring everything we had in this series and we did. I think that helped us for sure."

Henrique won the Wayne Gretzky 99 Award for Championship Series MVP of the playoffs as he was selected by the media covering the championship series.

"It's a great feeling," Henrique said. "I just want to come out every night and play hard and do what I can do to help the team win. Everybody pulled together throughout the playoffs when we were down or up. We stuck together no matter what and that's what got us here. It was a team effort."


Windsor Spitfires Win Series 4-0. Windsor is the 2010 OHL Champions and will advance to the 2010 Memorial Cup which begins on May 14 in Brandon, Manitoba.

OHL Championship Game 3: Adam Henrique's Hat Trick puts the Spitfires One Win away from a Repeat

With Adam Henrique's hat trick that saw him score twice in the 2nd and putting the game away in the 3rd period as the Spitfires just one win short of the team defending the OHL Championship and a shot of defending the Memorial Cup in Brandon, Manitoba. After the first period ended even in both a scoreless game and in SOG in 11.

It was early in the 2nd period that saw the Spitfires light up the home crowd with a power-play goal by Justin Shugg just 3 minutes into the 2nd period. It took him a little while for Henrique to take over the game, but midway through the 2nd period with goals around the middle of the period which included a SH Goal to make it 3-0 Spitfires. Barrie made things interesting with goals Zac Rinaldo and Stefan Della Rovere scored to make it 3-2 later in the 2nd, but that's as close the Colts would get.

The 3rd period saw the Spitfires by Timmins and Henrique's 3rd of the game put the Spitfires just one win away from repeating as OHL Champions. Expect Barrie to put it all on the line for Game 4 on Tuesday Night to prevent the Spitfires from making it a clean sweep.

In Windsor, Ontario: The Windsor Spitfires are one win away from winning the OHL Robertson Cup for the 2nd straight year. Adam Henrique had a hat trick, including the game winner in the 2nd period to pace the Spitfires to a 5-2 win over the Barrie Colts in Game 3 of the OHL Championship Series on Sunday Night in Windsor.

The Spitfires lead the series 3-0 and can wrap it up with a win at home in Game 4 on Tuesday.

"Our start wasn't what we wanted it to be for whatever reason", said Spitfires head Coach Bob Boughner." "Give Barrie Credit, obviously they were hungry to play tonight. We had some big goals. It was a rough game with lots of penalties. There was a lot of emotion out there and in the end Philipp Grubaner and Adam Henrique obviously had some big performances."

Justin Shugg opened the scoring with a power-play marker early in the 2nd period and then Henrique counted two in a row to push the Spitfires lead to three. The Colts responded with goals by Zac Rinaldo and captain Stefan Della Rovere to cut the lead to one but Scott Timmins scored his 10th goal of the playoffs late in the 2nd period to end the rally.

Henrique rounded out the hat trick with his 19th goal of the post-season late in the 3rd period. It was the Spitfires seventh straight playoff win.

"I think we came out a little flat and got out of the first period (tied)," Henrique said. "In the 2nd period we picked up our play and things started rolling a little bit more."

Grubauer was the first star after making 42 saves in the win.

"Philipp Grubauer saved our butts so many times," Boughner said. "He looks like a confident goalie right now. He's seeing the puck obviously he's focused. From two weeks ago and what we had to go through in that last series (against Kitchener) I think he's a better goalie."

Peter Di Salvo made his first start of the series for the Colts and allowed five goals on 30 shots in the loss.

"There isn't much to say, the guys know what we faced with," said Della Rovere. "We have a hill to climb and we have to come together in the room. We have to come out on Tuesday and take it one shift at a time."

The Colts lead the entire CHL in wins and points during the regular season and through the first three rounds of the playoffs but after dropping the first three games of the series, they are facing elimination on Tuesday.

"There's only one way to try to get it back into it and that's to win shifts and win periods," said Colts Coach Marty Williamson. "We knew coming into this one today that if we didn't win this one, they would be a big hill to climb. You can't look at the big picture you have to look at what we have to do when we come into this building on Tuesday and that's to win the first period."

Boughner was obviously happy with the win but said his team will need to be even better to finish off the Colts.

"We have to be better if we think we can win this one in four," Boughner said. "The guys can't be to loose or overconfident. If we want to win Game 4, we can't get out-chanced in our building. We have to make sure that we're taking the imitative out there."

The Spitfires won the Robertson Cup as OHL Champions last year in five games over the Brampton Battalion and went on to win the Memorial Cup in Rimouski, QC.

The OHL Champions will travel to Brandon, Manitoba next week to play in the 2010 Mastercard Memorial Cup starting on Friday May 14 if the Spitfires win on Tuesday Night.

OHL Championship Game 2: Another 1 goal win Gives Spitfires a 2-0 Series Lead

A couple of days after the Spitfires came-back from OT to win Game 2. It was another nail bitter as the Spitfires and Colts traded blows as the Spitfires eventually came out on top as the Spitfires will head into the next 2 games in Windsor, Ontario with a chance to complete a series sweep and defend the OHL Championship.

All 5 Windsor goals came from different players as some of the lesser known players got a chance to shine as players like Scott Timmins who had a goal & assist. Plus Mark Cundari who was one of the Game 1 hero's had a goal and 2 assists in Game 2 including a SH Goal that got the scoring going last night.

Barrie attempted to comeback with Kyle Clifford leading the way with 2 goals and almost got the game tied in the 3rd period when as he made the game 3-2 & 5-4 which were looking to turn around the momentum. However it was to no use as the Spitfires fired back the first time and ran out of time on the 2nd attempt.

Barrie will need to find a way to contain the Spitfires high flying offense and find the critical goals as this series will be a close one throughout the series. If not, then expect the Spitfires to celebrate an OHL Championship for the 2nd straight year.

Dale Mitchell picked a terrific time to snap out of his cold streak. The Windsor Spitfires overage winger scored the winning goal late in the 3rd period to help the Spitfires to a 5-4 win over the Barrie Colts in Game 2 of the Rogers OHL Championship Series.

After winning the opening game 4-3 in overtime on Tuesday. the Spitfires have grabbed a 2-0 lead in the series and will play the next two games on home ice.

"I've been on a bit of a cold streak and to come up big here tonight was good for my confidence and good for the team," said Mitchell, who scored his first goal of the since the 2nd round against the Plymouth Whalers." To come in here and win two is absolutely huge. It was our goal to come in here and give these guys a test."

The Series moves to Windsor for Game 3 on Sunday (3:00 PM) and Game 4 on Tuesday Night. The Spitfires are looking to win the Robertson Cup for the second straight series and they are thrilled with their strong start to the series.

"It's obviously a big game to take coming into this tough building against this great team," said Spitfires head coach Bob Boughner. "Dale Mitchell scores big goals for the Windsor Spitfires. It's a great guy to have with the puck on his stick because he can score big goals."

Mark Cundari opened the scoring for the Spitfires with a short handed goal near the midway point of the first period.

"Any time you get a short-handed goal, its a confidence boost for your team," Cundari said. "It was a timely goal for us and we picked up it from there." We got the lead and never looked back."

Mark Cantin scored his third of the playoffs on a boost from the blueline early in the 2nd period and then Zach Kassian pushed the Spitfires lead to two with a goal at the midway point of the game. Scott Timmins scored his 9th of the playoffs and fifth in the past 4 games midway through the 3rd period and then Mitchell counted what proved to be the game-winner when he burst down the wing and fired a snap shot from the face-off circle under the crossbar for his seventh goal of the post-season.

Kyle Clifford scored two goals for the Colts, including his fifth of the playoffs to close the Spitfires lead to one goal late in the third period but the Colts weren't able to force the game into overtime.

"We need to break through," said Colts coach Marty Williamson. "I don't think our game was too bad today but we got caught making some big mistakes. You can't give a team breakaways like we did. If you make blunders against a team like this, they make you pay."

Alexander Bruistrov put the Colts with a power play marker in the last minute of the first period to tie the score at one and Taylor Carnevale brought the Colts within one goal in the third period when he picked up a loose puck at the edge of the crease and put it over the glove of the Spitfires goalie Philipp Gruaber.

Gruaber made 33 saves, including 18 in the third period for his sixth straight win while Marvic Parks allowed 5 goals on 22 shots in the loss.

It was the Spitfires fourth straight win on the road dating back to Game 4 of the Western Conference Championship Series against the Kitchener Rangers.

"We were just trying to get pucks into the net," Baugher said. "It was a simple game plan. We'll have to go back and look at the tape before Game 3. I don't think it was our best game out there. We still have some things to work on.

We know that Barrie's going to give us all we can handle in Game's 3 & 4. It's great to win two road games but it doesn't mean anything if we don't back it up at home."

OHL Championship Game 1: Cundari & Hall make the difference late

One of the this summer's top players for the 2010 NHL Draft this summer Taylor Hall made the difference late in the first OT as he scored his 15th of the OHL Playoffs to help the Spitfires win their 5th in a row after having to comeback from 3-0 down to the Kitchener Rangers in the Conference Finals.

After a slow start to the game, things got cooking late in the 1st period as Windsor's Adam Henrique & Ryan Ellis scored late in the first after Barrie's Matt Kennedy and Kyle Clifford scored to make it 2-0 Colts.

After the 2 Spitfires goals late in the first, the game turned into a defensive showing as both teams were careful about giving up the next goal as both teams thought that it might have been a barn burner in Game 1 of the OHL Final.

Windsor continued to barrage it's SOG with 48 but Barrie Goalie Marvic Parks made 44 saves on 48 shots in the game while Windsor's goaltending situation has been a bit shaky this season, but Spitfires goalie Philipp Grubauer made 29 saves on 32 Barrie Shots as the Spitfires turned it up in the 3rd period by out-shooting the Colts 5-0 in the OT Period.

For Barrie to handle Windsor's shooting ways as the Spitfires have among the league leaders in SOG by a wide margin all year in the OHL.

Game 2 of the OHL Championship will be back in Barrie on Thursday Night as the Colts will look to comeback from the Game 1 OT Loss.

The Barrie Colts are quickly finding out why people are calling the Windsor Spitfires the "Comeback Kids". The Colts took an early lead in Game 1 of the Rogers OHL Championship Series in Barrie on Tuesday and then had the lead again late in the game but resilient Spitfires battled back both teams and then scored in OT to win the Series Opener.

Taylor Hall was again the hero for the Spitfires when he blasted a one-timer from the faceoff circle 2:35 into the overtime to give the Spitfires a 1-0 Series Lead.

"I knew that their guys were kind of forcing Ryan Ellis and I had to get into a soft spot," Hall said about the goal. "Fortunately I got a lot on the shot and I don't think he saw it at all. It was very fortunate for us.

"I thought it was a pretty good effort by our team. We started off a little bit sluggish and that cost us an early lead but as we got going, that helped out legs."

Matt Kennedy opened the scoring at 13:11 into the game and then Kyle Clifford staked the Colts to a two-goal-lead three minutes later. But Adam Henrique put the Spitfires on the board just 33 seconds later and then Ryan Ellis tied the game in the last minute of the opening period.

Darren Archibald pushed the Colts ahead again midway through the 2nd period and the Colts held on to the lead until Mark Cundari tied it with 3:16 in the third period to force Overtime.

The Spitfires earned their way into the Championship Series after a dramatic comeback against the Kitchener Rangers in the Western Conference Final Series. The Rangers won the first 3 games of that series before the Spitfires roared back with 4 straight wins to reach the OHL Finals for the 2nd straight season.

"Coming into this game, we just wanted to keep this simple, play a solid road game and never give up," said Cundari, who grabbed a loose puck in the slot and fired it on the net for his 2nd goal of the playoffs. "In the 3rd period I got a bounce and I buried it and we brought it to Overtime. We went into the room and said we were going to win this game. We needed it. It was a huge bounce for us."

Philipp Grubauer won his fifth straight game after allowing 32 shots while Marvic Parks took the loss after stopping 44 of 48 shots in the opening game for the Colts, who suffered their first loss in 8 playoff games.

Game 2 is in Thursday in Barrie (6:30 PM CDT) before the series shifts to Windsor for Game 3 on Sunday and Game 4 on Tuesday.

The Colts welcomed a sold-out crowd of 4296 for their first appearance in the OHL Championship Series since 2002 and are looking to even up the series at home on Thursday Night.

"I think it's huge for us", said Colts Defensemen Alex Pietrangelo. "We worked all season to get home ice advantage for the circumstance right here. The fans were good here tonight I just wish we were able to put on a little better performance and get the win. Were ready to go for the next game."

For the Spitfires, they have an opportunity to take the series lead back home for the next two games.

"Were going to play the exact same as we did today," Cundari said. "Obviously were going to clean up some things in our defensive zone and work on some of the top things that we need to be successful. It's going to be a great game and hopefully we will end up on top."

Ontario Hockey League Championship Series Preview & Schedule

This year's battle for the OHL Championship is the one we all wanted. But the Conference Finals couldn't have gone any different. The Barrie Colts finally ended the run of the Mississauga St. Micheal's Majors who were the youngest team in the league and should be a serious OHL & Memorial Cup Contender over the next couple of seasons. Barrie ended Mississauga's season in 5 games as Bryan Cameron & Luke Pither are leading the team with 18 points with Brumistrov with 14 points.

It's been the strong defense for the Colts that gave up 2 or fewer goals in 4 of the 5 games in the Conference. Expect Marvic & Peter Di Savo to be exchanging time in net as both netminders have GAA of just over 2 and a half during this year's playoffs. Expect them to have a strong home ice advantage as the team has been undefeated at home and the Game 2 loss to the Majors was the only loss of this year's playoff run.

In addition to Taylor Hall, expect forwards like Adam Henrique with 15 goals (Leading the OHL Playoffs), Ryan Ellis with a strong 24 assists and Scott Timmins who's 3rd in points with 17 (8G 9A) which would be near the leaders on most teams. Also look for the top defense duo of Cam Fowler and Mark Cundari to bring the pain against Barrie.

Windsor's goaltending will need to continue to be top notch as Phillip Gruaber was a bit shaky in the Conference Final against Kitchener as the Spitfires gave up 4 or more goals in 5 of the 7 games.

With Barrie's goaltending who's been very strong in this year's playoffs. This could be the one major weakness that could keep the Spitfires from a chance of defending both the OHL & Memorial Cup Tournaments for the 2nd straight year.

Unlike most series in the OHL Playoffs, this will go the traditional 2-2-1-1-1 format as the distance between the teams in the OHL is usually not that long. The Championship Series gets underway tomorrow night in Barrie with the OHL Champions moving on the CHL Memorial Cup in Brandon, Manitoba which starts on May 14.

Major Junior All Star Game Rosters and Info

With the Major Junior All Star Game coming up next week from the WFCU Center in Windsor, Ontario. This game will feature 40 of the top players at the major junior level who will be looking to impress NHL Scouting Staffs as a majority of players will be eligible for the 2010 NHL All Star Game with a few others who may be looking to make an early impression for the 2011 NHL Draft Class.

The teams will be divided into Red and White Teams to repsertente the colors of the Canadian Flag. For Team Red, it will be headed by legenday Hockey Night in Canada Analyst Don Cherry while Team White will be headed by Hockey Legend Bobby Orr.

Among the 40 players include the projected #1 Draft pick coming up as Taylor Hall (Windsor Spitfires) will skate for Team Red. While for Team White, they will have the services of the Swiss Hero from the WJC Nino Niederreiter of the Portland Winterhawks. One of this year's top Americans playing in the game is Emerson Etem of the Medicine Hat Tigers who's looking to be one of the top Americans taken in this summers NHL Draft for Team White.

In all, the Ontario Hockey League will have the most players in this year's game with 18 players. For the WHL, they will send 13 players while the QMJHL will send 9 players to this year's game at the home of the OHL & Memorial Cup Champions Windsor Spitfires.
