Colin Jacobs Ranked #10 in the WHL by NHL Central Scouting

It was announced this morning that the first edition of the NHL Central Scouting Rankings for the 2011 NHL Draft that will be taking place in Minnesota next summer, and as expected Colin Jacobs was expected to be among the top players, but I think he even surprised himself when he cracked the top 10 in the entire Western Hockey League as he is one of the fastest rising players in the WHL Right now.

Thanks to a very strong road trip out East that just wrapped up with him getting a 3 point night against the Prince Albert Raiders and a 2 goal game against the Regina Pats where he almost got his first WHL Hat trick.

In all he has become a point-a-game player as he scored 18 points in 19 games so far this season and at 6'1" 205 pounds, he's beginning to get more comfortable throwing his weight around and becoming more physical around the boards, also looking to time his shots as he is starting to get more chances to impress on the Power Play as he plays the point to get the puck to the net.

Earlier this week, Colin Jacobs was featured on the NHL Website as he is looking to be the first ever 1st Round Draft Pick from Texas. And be among the first group of players from the Southwest to play in the National Hockey League, as well as continue to prove that Texas can be a strong state to produce hockey talent like California has in recent years when Beau Bennett and Emerson Etem were selected in the first Round last year.

In addition to Jacobs being ranked #10 in the WHL, he has a chance to move up even more with his great play. Also if he can do well in the post-season plus be able to make events like the IIHF U18 World Championships, which is one of the biggest tournaments for NHL Draft Eligible players.

This will help him out even more when spring time comes out and when the Final Draft Rankings come out in April. Keep in mind that the Major Junior Playoffs start in Mid-March and will lead up to the Memorial Cup which will be in Late May in Mississauga, Ontario this season.

As for the U18 World Championship, this year's tournament will be from April 14-24 in Germany as the Americans will look to win Gold for the 3rd straight year at this age level.

This season is already a big improvement to last season as the Thunderbirds won just 19 games last season and finished 9th only ahead of the Prince George Cougars who was easily the worst team in the WHL and one of the was compared to teams like Halifax for worst overall in the entire Canadian Hockey Leagues.

Jacobs wasn't the only Thunderbird either to make the WHL Top 25 so far, two of his teammates in Wingers Luke Lockhart who's at #12 and Marcel Noebels at #13 in the Western Hockey League also made the first list of the season.

At this point, who knows where Jacobs will go. But if the Stars have a chance to grab him in the draft and they feel it's a good fit. They should go for it, not only because he's a high quality player, but a chance to add a 2nd strong Local Prospect along with Austin Smith that could play for his hometown Stars in the near future, and a chance for him to make a big name for himself here in the DFW Area.

The next big question for Jacobs is how will he handle the pressure of being looked by scouts from all over the National Hockey League for the rest of the season.

Can he get in a position to possibly play for Team USA at the U18's this spring, what about a big WHL Playoff Run or some great eye grabbing moments that can make highlight reels and make scouts pay attention, well see how he does the rest of the season.

So far one of the best moments of the season for Jacobs came on November 2 when he had his great backhand goal against the Red Deer Rebels to help the Thunderbirds help beat the Rebels 4-1 which includes the top WHL'er in this year's draft class is Ryan-Nugent Hopkins which has easily topped the WHL List as many experts are expecting him to battle with Sean Courtier of the Drummondville Voltigeurs (QMJHL) and Swedish Prospect Adam Larsson who plays for Skelleftea in the Swedish Elite League.

Click Here to see the Jacobs Backhand Goal against Red Deer on 11/2.

If your looking for the top players in the different leagues and European Rankings which are ranked by country. Here's the top's from the top 4 Junior Leagues in North America (OHL, WHL, QMJHL & USHL).

As for the top European Players, it is based from country, but I'm going to feature the top players from Sweden, Finland, Russia, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Switzerland. Theirs also a handful of players on here from places like Denmark and Norway as well.

Even these rankings will give us an idea of what to expect next summer in Minnesota. Theirs still a long way to go. Players can still get hurt, get traded or possibly come out of no where to rocket up their way to the charts.

A good example was Swiss Forward Nino Niederretier who had his coming out party at the World Juniors last season and rapidly climbed the charts to be a top 5 overall pick, and even got to play a handful of games with the New York Islanders before getting sent back to the Portland Winterhawks (WHL) to continue his development.

Because he plays in the WHL, he's not allowed to go to the AHL because of rules banning Junior Aged players not allowing them to play in the AHL until his Junior Years are up at age 20. If he were in the NCAA for instance, then he would be allowed to be at least in the AHL right now.

Also don't forget to listen to the Pipeline Show tonight at 8-10 PM CST on The Pipeline Show as Guy Fleming and Dean Millard will talk more about the rankings.

Calgary has 4 goal 3rd period to stun Moncton

With Calgary's Brandon Kozoun unable to play because of an injury. Things were looking good for the Moncton Wildcats as they were in control in their Memorial Cup Opener as the Wildcats used 2 goals from Alex Saulnier plus what was another great performance by Nicola Riopel to stop 22 saves in this game. Also goals by Devon Macausland and David Savard also scored for Moncton.

Even without Kozuon, the Hitmen were on the comeback trail in the 3rd period. An early goal Joel Broda made it 3-2. Then after Moncton made it 4-2 with Saulnier's 2nd of the game, the Hitmen turned it up on all cilinders as the Hitmen scored 3 times in just over 4 minutes in the 3rd with goals from Nyren, Foucault and Shattock to comeback to win 5-4 and take their first win from this year's tournament.

Today's game is a key game as Brandon & Moncton will battle and both teams need this win as the loser will go to 0-2 and it will be a serve climb for the Memorial Cup Title for the loser of today's game.

From the Memorial Cup Website: www.mastercardmemorialcup.com

From Brandon, Manitoba: The Calgary Hitmen offense exploded with 3 goals in the final 6 minutes of play to surprise the Moncton Wildcats 5-4 Saturday Afternoon at the Westman Place.

As soon as the puck dropped, the Wildcats put pressure on Calgary's defense with big hits on Jayven Rissling and Zak Stebner.

Moncton was the first team to get on the board at 9:53. Devon Macausland in the slot, but the puck was redirected into the net by a Hitmen Defensemen.

Fans had to wait till the 2nd period to see the game's next marker. Defensemen David Savard put the Wildcats up 2-0 with a beautiful wrist-shot that fooled goalie Martin Jones just before the mid-way point. Moncton added a third goal at the 14:11 mark courtesy of Alex Saulnier before Tyler Fiddler cut the lead with his first goal of the tournament.

In the opening minutes of the 3rd period, Ian Schutlz centered a pass when Joel Broda buried behind Riopel. But the Wildcats soon countered as Alex Saulnier registered his second goal of the game nine seconds into a power play to make it 4-2.

The floodgates soon opened up in the last six minutes as Giffen Nyren, Kris Foucault and Tyler Shattock recorded three unanswered markers to give Calgary the win.

Joel Broda was named the Games first Star. Alex Saulnier recorded second star Honors while Tyler Shattock got the 3rd star of the game.

Game 3 of the 2010 Mastercard Memorial Cup hits the airwaves of Rogers Sportsnet and RDS tomorrow at 2:00 PM at the Brandon Wheat Kings battle the Moncton Wildcats. The game can also been seen live on www.sportsnet.ca and on the NHL Network on the USA.

Windsor crushes Brandon in Memorial Cup Opener 9-3

Windsor is looking primed and willing that a 2nd straight Memorial Cup Title is in their reach after a 9 goal outburst in this year's Tournament Opener. All the usual weapons were on hand for the Spitfires with Taylor Hall, Adam Henrique and Scott Timmins each scoring twice in the victory.

Goals also came from Kenny Ryan, Zack Kassian and Dale Mitchell as well. In addition to the win as well saw Philipp Gruaber who's having a monster playoff run with 30 saves in the game to keep the Wheat Kings far and away from impressing the huge crowd of nearly 5400 quiet and stunned in the opener.

The only time that Brandon was able to comeback and fire some of their own was in garbage time Matt Calvert, Jay Fehr and Aaron Lewadniuk who scored late in the 2nd and the 3rd.

Goaltending wise it was a very rough day for the Wheat Kings as the goaltending duo split the time and nothing could help them out. Jacob De Serres gave up 4 goals on shots while Andrew Hayes gave up 5 in the first period which included 4 in the first 5 minutes.

Up next for Windsor is the Calgary Hitmen on Monday Night while the Brandon Wheat Kings will need to comeback for Sunday's Game against the Moncton Wildcats.

From the Memorial Cup Website: www.mastercardmemorialcup.com

From Brandon, Manitoba: The Windsor Spitfires scored four unanswered goals in the first five minutes of play to open the 2010 Mastercard Memorial Cup, defeating the Brandon Wheat Kings 9-3 in front of a crowd of 5381 at the Westman Place inside the Keystone Center.

Although the Wheat Kings made their presence felt in the opening minute of the game with several bone crunching hits, the Spitfires put the game out of reach early as Kenny Ryan, Scott Timmins, Adam Henrique and Taylor Hall all recorded markers within the first 5 minutes of play. Taylor Hall scored his second goal of the night at 18:23, putting Windsor up 5-0 after the first twenty minutes.

Wheat Kings Head Coach Kelly Mccrimmon gave the nod to back up goaltender Jacob De Serres in the 2nd period. But that changed little to disrupt the Spitfires who registered their sixth goal of the game at 1:15 courtesy of Adam Henrique.

Scott Timmins and Dale Mitchell added markers before the Wheat Kings finally got on the board thanks to winger Adam Lewadniuk. Unfortunately for the hometown Wheaties, Zach Kassian scored a late one to put the Spitfires up 9-1 late in the 2nd period.

Goal Scorers in the third period included Matt Calvert and Jay Fehr.

Philipp Gruaber made 30 saves to earn the win goal for the Spitfires.

Adam Henrique was named the game's first star, with Spitfires defensemen Mark Cundari named the games 2nd star, and Hall was named the Third Star of the Game.

Game 2 of the 2010 Mastercard Memorial Cup hits the airwaves of Rogers SportsNet and RDS tomorrow at 2:00 PM CT as the WHL Champion Calgary Hitmen will play the QMJHL Champion Moncton Wildcats

The Game can also been seen live on www.sportsnet.ca and on the NHL Network on the USA.

4/29 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

The Stanley Cup Conference Semifinals got underway last night with the #1 VS. #5 Matchup in the Western Conference as the Sharks used a 3 goal 1st period as Joe Pavelski, Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi all scored in a minute and a half to give the Sharks a 3-0 lead and were looking to blow out the Red Wings to open the series after the bad start they got off to against Detroit.

However just a minute later saw Dan Cleary made it 3-1 as the Red Wings were able to turnaround the momentum and Jimmy Howard calmed down after the bad start to keep the game in check.

The 2nd period as they were just 13 shots on goal total in the 2nd period as the penalties started to come down (3 for SJ, 5 for DET). Despite all the PP Time the Sharks had in the 2nd, it was the Red Wings early on with a great set up from Datsyuk on his wrist shot to give the close the gap to 3-2 and the Red Wings had hope again of a comeback.

The opening minute of the 3rd period saw Pavelski and Rafalski score in the first 3 minutes to make it 4-3. The Sharks were looking to put it away late, but a 5 save performance from Evgeni Nabokov helped the Sharks win Game 1 and take the series lead.

San Jose has won 5-in-a-row after losing the first 2 games of the playoffs, the Sharks are looking to get the playoff monkey off their backs that have hampered them the last few years, also to avoid the fate that doomed the top 3 teams in the East as Washington, Buffalo & New Jersey are out of the playoffs.

2 games in the AHL Playoffs as the North Division Final got underway in Hamilton, Ontario as the Heat continued their momentum after coming back from 3-1 down to beat Rochester as Van Der Gulik and Baldwin each scored midway through the game to go up 2-1. Hamilton reacted quickly to make it 2-1. Brett Sutter scored to make 3-1 Heat to stun the Bulldogs and win the opening game. Brock Trotter scored his 4th of the playoffs with less then a minute left, but it was to little to late for the Bulldogs to force OT.

Hershey is zooming in the playoffs as they are the first team to clinch a Conference Spot as the Bears not only ended the Albany River Rats season, but they team as the River Rats will be moving to Charlotte, North Carolina next season to be closer to their NHL Affiliate in the Carolina Hurricanes.

It was another very close game in Barrie as the Spitfires are halfway through to defending the OHL Championship after winning their 2nd straight one goal game. After going into the 2nd intermission up 3-2, it was a couple of unsung hero's as Scott Timmins scored to make it 4-2.

However, the Barrie Colts found lighting in a bottle as Taylor Carnevale made it 4-3. But that's as close it would come as Dale Mitchell scored just a minute later to make it 5-3 to give the Spitfires the gap needed to go up 2-0 in the Championship Series.

It's a huge night as the WHL, QMJHL & USHL all begin their championship Series' tonight while the Surprising Canadians will open up in Pittsburgh against the defending champion Pittsburgh Penguins. While the Texas Stars & Chicago Wolves will open up the West Division Final in Chicago.

4/28 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

The end of the Conference Quarterfinals ended last night with the biggest shock of this year's playoffs so far as the Capitals have been knocked out of the playoffs thanks to Canadians goals by Marc-Andre Bergeron and Dominic Moore in the 3rd period to put up the Canadians up 2-0 before a Brooks Laich goal with 2:16 left in the game began a frantic comeback attempt to put the game in OT. Even more fantastic was that the Canadians had to comeback from 3-1 down to comeback to win the series after loses in Games 2, 3 & 4 early on.

The other end of the equation was another amazing night Halak as he had to stop 17 shots in the 3rd period and 41 shots for the entire game. For the entire first round series for the Canadians, Halak had to make 40 or more saves a number of times in this series as he was with-out-a-doubt the MVP of this series as the Canadians will no have to play 4th Seeded and defending Champion Pittsburgh Penguins in the Conference Semifinals. In every game, he had to make 30 or more saves as he was a busy boy against Washington.

With the top 3 seeds now out of the playoffs in the East, it will be Pittsburgh & Boston having home ice advantage as #4 & #6 seeds as they will play the Philadelphia Flyers & Montreal Canadians in the 2nd Round.

Here's the Saves Numbers by Halak in the 1st Round VS. Washington

Game 1: Montreal 3 Washington 2 (OT) Halak: 45 SVS ON 47 Shots

Game 2: Montreal 5 Washington 6 (OT) Halak: 31 SVS on 37 Shots

Game 3: Washington 5 Montreal 1 Halak: 10 SVS on 13 Shots (Pulled in 2nd)

Game 4: Washington 6 Montreal 3 Halak: DNP

Game 5: Montreal 2 Washington 1 Halak: 37 SVS on 38 Shots

Game 6: Washington 1 Montreal 4 Halak: 53 SVS on 54 Shots

Game 7: Montreal 2 Washington 1 Halak: 41 SVS on 42 Shots

Just one AHL Game last night as the Manchester Monarchs had to comeback from 2-1 down which tied the game midway through the 3rd period when Justin Azevedo scored to make it 2-2. Then early in the OT Period saw the game end just 4 minutes into OT as Bud Holloway gets a goal and an assist in this game to tie the series at 1-1.

Expect the Atlantic Division Final to be a tight one as both games have comedown to the wire and don't be shocked to maybe see a multi OT Game or two in this series as well.

The Allen Americans can think Colton Yellow Horn & Justin Bowers to help the Americans take a 2-1 series lead as Allen now has a chance to sweep the 3 games in Allen and win the Championship at home this season. Game 4 will be tomorrow night with Game 5 on Saturday. Expect some huge and crazy crowds in Allen with a chance to win the Championship this weekend.

Nothing in Junior's Last night, but we got some interesting action as Game 2 of the OHL Championship Series takes place in Barrie after the Spitfires used a late comeback to win 4-3. Also the WHL Championship Gets underway in Calgary tonight as the Hitmen take on the Tri-City Americans. Friday Night is a very busy night as the QMJHL & USHL Championship Series will get underway that night.

4/27 Scoreboard & Playoff Udate

Just one game in the NHL as the Phoenix Coyotes & Detroit Red Wings finished up the Western Conference Quarterfinals where it wasn't much of a game. A 4 goal 2nd period lead by Nicklas Lindstorm and Pavel Datsyuk who each scored twice. Plus a strong goaltending by Jimmy Howard performance fustratred the Coyotes attack all night as the Coyotes couldn't win their first playoff series since the late 80's when they were the Winnipeg Jets.

Also add on 50 shots on goal as the Red Wings peppered the Coyotes all night long as Phoenix couldn't escape the barge of pucks coming at Detroit's way. If anything is going well on Phoenix is that they ended the playoff drought in Arizona and could go along way towards saving the team as ownership and relocation rumors continue to lag on.

If this current ownership group falls through, then the team could be gone. Even though no specific rumors have been confirmed, some cities that could be possibilities include Seattle and Kansas City.

This means the Western Conference Semifinals are now set as the San Jose Sharks take on the Detroit Red Wings & the Chicago Blackhawks will be taking on the Vancouver Canucks as both 2nd Round Matchups are expected to begin sometime this weekend most likely. We are looking for a couple of classics as all 4 teams have had playoff matchups against each other in recent years.

The Eastern Conference 1st Round will be wrapping up tonight with Game 7 between Washington & Montreal. If the Capitals win tonight, it would be Washington VS. Philadelphia & Pittsburgh VS. Boston. If the Canadians pull off the upset of the top overall seed. It would be Pittsburgh VS. Montreal & Boston VS. Philadelphia as the top 3 seeds would all be gone in the 1st Round.

The American Hockey League saw the Abbotsford Heat & Rochester Americans play a Game 7. It was goals by John Lammers & Olivier Latendresse gave the Heat a 2-0 shutout win as the Heat completed a comeback to win the series in 4-3. The Heat outscored the Americans 10-2 in the final 3 games to beat the Rochester Americans and advance to play the Hamilton Bulldogs in the North Division Final.

The Hershey Bears are steamrolling in the playoffs as the Bears used a 6-5 OT win to go up 3-0 in the East Division Final against the Albany River Rats. Despite Albany giving Hershey a strong going in the offense, it's finding goals in critical times as 2 of the 3 games have advanced to OT as the Bears scored with 4 minutes left in the 1st OT to put the River Rats on the verge of elimination and ending the River Rats era in Albany, New York. The team began in 1990 as the River Rats will move to Charlotte, North Carolina after this season.

It was the opening game of the OHL Championship Series in Barrie as Mark Cundari tied the game at 3-3 with just over 3 minutes left in the 3rd period. Then Taylor Hall scored his 15th of the playoffs to make it 4-3 Spitfires to take the opening game of the OHL Championship. It starts a big week for the Junior Leagues as the WHL, QMJHL & USHL begin their Championship Matchups on Friday. While the NAHL Robertson Cup Tournament Begins on May 4.

With the Junior League Championships getting underway. Look for full Game Stories and Boxscores as the Race's for the Memorial Cup, USHL Clark Cup & the NAHL Robertson Cup Championships begin this week.

4/26 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

The National Hockey League saw 3 Game 6's last night as we saw the Boston Bruins & Chicago Blackhawks are moving on to the 2nd Round. While Montreal's Halak made an amazing 53 of 54 saves to force a Game 7 in Washington D.C. as the Capitals & Canadiens will be playing on Wednesday Night.

Nashville & Chicago had a crazy first period where the Blackhawks were leading 4-3 after 20 minutes. All 5 goals from the Blackhawks came from different players as Patrick Kane & Jonathan Towes both scoring pretty early, other players including Duncan Keith & Patrick Sharp also scored to make it 4-3 Blackhawks as the 1st period continued to go back-and-fourth as the 1st period ended 4-3.

Then the 2nd & 3rd periods turned into both teams getting desperate. The 2nd period saw the Blackhawks looking to pull away, but Predators goalie Patrick Rinne kept the Preds in the Game as the Blackhawks out-shot Nashville 16-4.

The 3rd period saw the tides turn as the Predators were looking to at least force OT or even comeback to win and save the Predators season as the SOG were 15-3 in favor of NSH, but Chicago Goalie Antti Nemi kept the Blackhawks up and John Madden put the game away with an empty net goal to win Game 6 & the Series 4-2.

As the Blackhawks put the Predators away in the first round away, it will be Chicago & Vancouver in the Western Conference Semifinals as we have the first confirmed 2nd Round Series. As for the other Western Conference Semifinals, it will be the San Jose Sharks against the winner of tonight's Game 7 between Phoenix & Detroit.

Boston ended what was a very physical series against the Buffalo Sabres as David Krejci scored twice in the game to win Game 6 to clinch the Series in 6 Games. With the Top Seeds in the East being in big trouble, it's defiantly possible that the Bruins could be getting home ice advantage for the 2nd Round with the 2nd seeded New Jersey Devils and 3rd seeded Buffalo Sabres out of the playoffs, also with the Capitals VS. Canadians going to Game 7 which will be played on Wednesday Night.

It was the first of 2 Game 7's in the AHL as the Chicago Wolves finally saw off the Milwaukee Admirals with a 2-1 win where the Wolves had to fight off after scoring twice in basically a minute-and-a-half. After the Wolves made it 2-0, Admirals goalie Mark Dekanich hang tough to keep the Admirals in the game despite getting out-shot 36-16 in the game.

Even though an Admirals goal by Marty Murray made it 2-1, the Admirals were able to hold on 2-1 to win the series in 7 games. It will be the Texas Stars VS. Chicago Wolves in the West Division Final with the Best-of-7 Series getting ready on Friday Night.

We made some history in the QMJHL as the St. John Seadogs ended the Series in 6 as the Seadogs used 3 & 4 goal periods to advance to the Championship Series against New Brunswick Arch rival Moncton Wildcats. This is the first time in QMJHL History that we are going to see an all Maritime Region Championship Series. No Schedule has been released yet for the QMJHL Final which will begin St. John later this week.

In the very tough NAHL South Division, the Bandits used a 4 goal 2nd period to end the Roadrunners season to win 5-0 as the Bandits will look to win the NAHL Robertson Cup for a 4th straight time.

The Tournament begins on May 4 as the Wenatchee Wild will be hosting this year and won the West Division as well. Bismarck, Traverse City & Fairbanks have also advanced to this year's Robertson Cup Championship.

Also tonight is a big night as we have Game 7 in Arizona as the Coyotes & Red Wings will determine who will play the San Jose Sharks. Also Rochester & Abbotsford have a Game 7 of their own with the winner playing the Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL North Division Final.

The first of the Major Junior Championships gets underway with the OHL. It's the top Conference Seeds as the Barrie Colts will take on the Windsor Spitfires for the OHL Championship & a Memorial Cup Spot.

4/22 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

The Multi OT Games are starting to come fast and furiously over the last couple of nights in the NHL as the Ottawa Senators pulled off a shock of the Penguins where Matt Crakner came up the unlikely hero for the Sens as he scored his first goal of the playoffs after scoring just 2 in the entire regular season.

This win keeps the Senators alive as Pittsburgh still leads 3-2, but it gets the series back to Ottawa where the Sens will hope to force a Game 7. After a game that stretches of fast pace and carefully planed play for different parts of the Triple OT Game, the Penguins had goals by Chris Kunitz and Sidney Crosby to keep the Pens in the game as the Sens were playing their best game of the series.

We also saw our first team through to the Conference Semifinals as the Flyers knocked out the Atlantic Division Champion New Jersey Devils. Brian Boucher has been playing out of his mind with a .940 GAA and a 1.59 SV%, in the different games, this was his first shutout of the plkayoffs and has given up more then 2 goals just once in the 1st Round Upset of New Jersey.

If the Washington Capitals can knock out the Montreal Canadians tonight, it will be the #1 Washington Capitals VS. #7 Philadelphia Flyers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

The Western Conference saw a huge night as all 4 series are tied at 2-2 and Thursday Night provided a huge night to find out how the momentum was going to shift. the San Jose Sharks finally looked like them selves with a 5-0 win over Colorado where two goals by Couture lead the way to San Jose as the Sharks now go up 3-2. Chicago got the series with Nashville back to even with a 3-0 shutout last night as Game 5 will now return to Chicago.

With the AHL & CHL both off last night. We head to the Juniors where the Windsor Spitfires avoided elimination again with a 3-0 shutout of the Kitchener Rangers to close the series gap to 3-2. And the Spitfires are looking to pull off a huge comeback and continue their hopes of playing the Barrie Colts for the OHL Championship and a shot of defending the Memorial Cup Championship.

Out West, the Tri-City Americans got their Western Conference Final tied at 2-2 with a 5-2 win where Kruise Reddick had a goal and 3 assists to lead the Americans past the Giants in Vancouver. The Series now shifts to Tri-City for Game 5 tonight.

It's a big night in the Central Hockey League as the CHL Ray Miron Presidents Cup Championship gets underway tonight as the Allen Americans VS. Rapid City Rush will do battle as both teams are looking to win their first League Championship in South Dakota Tonight. With the Eastern Conference Semifinals Matchups now set, the spotlight is in the West as Chicago, Texas, Rochester & Hamilton can all clinch their 1st Round Series tonight.

4/21 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

We had the first Double OT Game of this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs up in Boston as the Sabres & Bruins were playing the crucial game 4 last night. It turned out to be a great comeback for the Bruins after going down 2-0 at the 2nd intermission.

Then the 3rd period saw Patrice Bergeon and David Krejci that scored early goals in the 3rd period that turned the tide, from their on, the 3rd period was a very tense and tight period with either side afraid of giving up a huge goal that would either make it 3-1 lead for Boston or the series tied at 2-2 heading back to Buffalo.

Most of the 1st OT was a fast pace period with tons of shots as both teams wanted to get it done early as the SOG were 10-8 in favor of Boston. Then a furious Boston PP early in the 2OT gave an opportunity for Miroslav Satan who scored on the PP with a set up from Micheal Ryder to put the Bruins up 3-1 with a chance to end the series in Buffalo on Friday Night.

The other 2 games saw huge 3rd periods from the Washington Capitals & Vancouver Canucks use 4 goal third periods as both teams were able to go up 3-1 in their best of 7 series'.

A very busy night in the AHL saw a huge shock as the Milwaukee Admirals came back from 3-0 and 4-1 down to score 3 goals in the 2nd period made it 4-3 Wolves at the 2nd intermission. It looked it was going to be a big effort that would come short, but a goal by Thang stunned the Wolves fans to tie the game at 4-4. Then with less then 2 minutes left in the game, Chris Mueller made it 5-4 Admirals to pull off the Game 5 win to force a game 6 in Milwaukee on Friday Night.

Other then night, it was a night of blowouts as the Hershey Bears & Worcester Sharks used 5-1 & 4-1 wins to advance to the Divisional Finals. The Bears kept the Sound Tigers down to just 7 SOG for the game.

Then in the Western Conference, the Texas Stars and Rochester Americans had big 6-1 wins to go up 3-0 & 3-1 in their series to put them on the brink of winning their first Playoff Series in Team History. While the Hamilton Bulldogs had to survive a 4 goal 2nd period by Manitoba to win 5-4 in Double OT to go up 3-1 in their Best-of-7 Matchup.

The First League Championship Spot was clinched as the Barrie Colts downed Mississauga 4-2 with 2 goals by Stefan Della Rovere to knock out the Mississauga St. Micheal's Majors. Who with a strong young roster and a great year that saw them finish 3rd in the Regular Season and advance to the Conference Final. Expect them to be a major OHL & Memorial Cup Contender the next couple of seasons.

4/20 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

It was another upset night in the Western Conference as the Nashville Predators have put themselves up 2-1 in the best of 7 with a with a 4-1 win over the Blackhawks. Which included a Matthew Erat's Goal on a penalty shot, and a huge goal by David Legwand that gave the Predators the momentum going into the 2nd period to put the Blackhawks hopeless as the team looked slow and tired last night. Nashville has a chance to go up 3-1 on Thursday Night.

San Jose & Colorado were in another low scoring game despite the power that both teams have. At least for one night, the Sharks were able that they were able to score in the Colorado Net as goals by Dan Boyle who scored in his own net in Game 3, made up for it just 1:12 of the game to make it 1-0. Midway through the 1st OT as Pavelski scored to win the game 2-1 for the Sharks.

The Series is now tied at 2-2 with Game 5 as 3 of the 4 games have gone to OT in this series and with the exception of Game 2, all the games have had 3 goals all of which were 2-1 scores in OT.

Pittsburgh, Detroit and Philadelphia all had 3 goal wins as the Red Wings tied the series at 2-2 with a 3-0 shutout. Pittsburgh won a barn burner in Ottawa as the Penguins now lead the series 3-1. Finally Philadelphia is looking to knockout the Devils after the 4-1 win where the 7th seeded Flyers are up 3-1.

The Flyers could be setting themselves up for a 2nd round matchup against the Washington Capitals as the Capitals are looking to keep the momentum going after winning 5-1 against Montreal back on Monday Night.

Just 2 games in the AHL last night as the Manchester Monarchs won their first playoff series in 3 years with a sweep of the Portland Pirates. While the Worcester Sharks are on the verge of knocking out the Lowell Devils with a 4-2 win to take a 3-1 series lead. Expect the Worcester Sharks & Manchester Monarchs to play each other in the Atlantic Division Final.

A huge night in the Major Junior as 3 teams were able to keep their Memorial Cup Hopes alive as Drummondville, Victoriaville and Windsor were able to keep their series hopes alive. In both of the QMJHL Semifinals, it was a big night for the Central Division Teams as the Voltigeurs looked strong with the help of a 5 point night for Philip-Michael Devos with 2 goals and 3 assists including making the game 3-0 late in the first period.

It was another barn burner in the OHL Western Conference Final as the Spitfires Forwards Adam Henrique and Zack Kassian each scored twice in the 7-5 win over the Rangers to make it a 3-1 series.

Finally in the WHL, the Calgary Hitmen & Vancouver Giants go up 2-1 in their Conference Finals. Calgary used a 4 goal 1st period to blow the game wide open despite a strong comeback attempt by the Wheat Kings that made it 4-3 in the 2nd period. In Vancouver it was Thomas Vincour just 4 minutes into OT.

4/19 Scoreboard & Playoff Update

Monday featured 3 Stanley Cup Playoff Games going into the night with all the series' tied at 1-1. In Montreal it was the first major blowout of the series as the Capitals are looking to put the Canadians season to bed with a 4 goal 2nd period with goals from Boyd Gordon, Brooks Laich, Eric Fehr and Alexander Ovechkin all put the game out of reach at the 2nd intermission where the Capitals eventually won 5-1. Washington will look to put a quick end of the series as the Capitals are looking to hit their stride in the playoffs.

The other 2 matchups from Monday Night saw the LA Kings retake the Series Lead against Vancouver that saw Michael Handzus go wild in the 2nd period with the Kings going up 3-1 midway through the 2nd period. Brad Richardson respond to a great Canucks Goal by Magnus Samuelsson less then a minute later to make it 4-1. Then former Edmonton Oiler Ryan Smyth put the dagger in the Canucks with the game winner that made it 5-2. The Final was eventually 5-3 to take a 2-1 series lead.

Also with Boston winning 2-1 in Game 3 as well. This leads that all 8 series were 1-1 after 2 games and 4 of the 8 lower seeded teams are leading the series as Colorado, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Boston are all leading their series' at 2-1 with the possibility of some high seeds including the San Jose Sharks who could be another chapter in the long list of playoff disappointments in the team's history.

5 Games are on the docket for tonight as Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Colorado all will be looking to go up 3-1 and on the verge of advancing to the Conference Semifinals.

The AHL Saw the Albany River Rats become the first team to advance to the Division Finals with a 5-3 win over the W-B/Scranton Penguins. Jamie Mcbain scored twice for the Rats to knock out the Penguins as Albany will most likely play the Hershey Bears in the Division Finals as they lead 3-1 over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Albany is looking to give their fans a strong sendoff as the team will be moving to Charlotte, North Carolina next season to be closer to the Carolina Hurricanes.

We also had our first hat trick of the Calder Cup Playoffs as Jordan Schroeder gave the Moose a 7-2 lead over the Hamilton Bulldogs to keep the series alive. Chicago also used a 1-0 victory with a lone goal by Machacek to put them up 3-1. Then a crazy game in Abbotsford, B.C. as the Americans came back from 2-1 down at the end of the 1st intermission as Graham Mink, Shawn Matthias and Clay Wilson each scored twice to win 8-4 and put the Americans up 2-1 in the North Division Semifinal.

A slow night but a huge game took place in Mississauga used a 3-1 win to go up 3-1 in the series to be within 1 win of advancing to the OHL Championship Series. Goals by Cameron, Della Rovere & Kennedy all scored to put the Colts on the Brink of advancing to the Championship.

Tonight is a huge night in the Major Junior's as both WHL Conference Finals will be playing Game 3 tonight, also the Kitchener Rangers can knockout Windsor in the OHL Western Conference Finals. In the QMJHL both St. John & Moncton are looking to go up 3-0 and closing in on an all Atlantic Region Final in the QMJHL between the New Brunswick Rivals.
