Aeros score 5 2nd Period Goals to run away from Peoria 5-2

In a game where all 7 goals were scored in the 2nd period, the Aeros used 4 unanswered goals including 3 in just over 5 minutes late in the 2nd period to pull away from the Peoria Rivermen for a 5-2 win back on Sunday Afternoon.

It was a mostly an afternoon where you saw secondary players score most of the goals including Defensemen Jared Spurgeon who scored his first career Professional goal for the Aeros which tied the game at 2-2 early in the 2nd period. And helped kick off the Aeros pulling away from the Peoria Rivermen, as the Aeros were able to snap a 3 game losing streak as they lost both games in BC against Abbotsford and the first of two against the Rivermen the night before.

After a scoreless first period, the goals began flying when it went from 0-0 to 2-2 as Peter Klaus got the scoring going as he scored his 4th of the season just 28 seconds into the 2nd period. After Peoria scored twice in just over a minute apart to take brief 2-1 lead for the Rivermen.

Then the Aeros shut the door on Peoria as Maxim Noreau, Joel Broda on the Power Play and a shorthanded goal by Carson Macmillan put the Aeros up 5-2 with just under 5 minutes left in the 2nd period.

Then it was Matt Hackett's job to keep the door shut as he stopped 7 shots in the 3rd period  as the Aeros won comfortably 5-2 over the Rivermen over in Illinois.

As the Aeros are looking to climb back up in the West Division Standings as the Aeros are now 7-6-3 (17 points) and in 5th place in the West. A great winning streak can put them within striking distance of the Rivermen who are just 2 points up plus Milwaukee and Oklahoma City who are currently tied for 2nd at the moment.

As for the upcoming schedule for the Aeros, it's a home game against the Chicago Wolves on Wednesday Night. Then it's a quick 2 game road-trip with games in Grand Rapids and Chicago this weekend.

From Peoria, Illinois: Three Aeros collected multiple points, including defensemen Maxim Noreau who had a goal and two assists, and the Houston Aeros scored five times in the 2nd period en route to a 5-2 win over the Peoria Rivermen Sunday at Carver Arena.

The win snapped a 3 game Houston Winless skid and ended a five game road trip at 2-1-2.

Carson McMillan and Jared Spurgeon each added a goal and an assist and Matt Hackett made 21 saves for his first win since October 15 and just his third overall this season.

After a scoreless first period, Houston's Petr Klaus scored 28 seconds into the second with his fourth goal of the season.

Peoria's Derek Nesbitt responded 52 seconds later to knot the score at 1-1. Ian Cole gave the Rivermen a 2-1 lead just 1:17 later.

Houston began a run of four unanswered goals starting with Spurgeon's first as a pro, on the power play at 4:50. Noreau scored the eventual game winner at 10:36 and then Joel Broda tallied another power play marker at 13:55. McMillan added a shorthanded goal, the team's first of the season, at 15:13.

The Aeros went 2/7 on the power play and have scored on the man advantage in six of their last seven outings.

Peoria Goalie Jake Allen (17 saves) suffered the loss, his first as a pro, and was relieved after Houston's fourth goal. Ben Bishop made 8 saves in 23:46 of mop up duty.

Abbotsford uses late comeback to beat the Aeros 3-2

Despite a strong start which included a 2-0 lead with Aeros goals by Cody Almond and Jean-Michael Daoust that looked like it would help the Aeros win the first of a two game set in BC.

But a goal by Carter Bancks in the final minute of regulation tied the game at 2-2 to force OT then a SO with goals by Gaelan Patterson and Jon Rheault put the Heat over the top in the SO as they won to get themselves in a first place tie with the Hamilton Bulldogs in the North Division.
After the Aeros finish up in BC, they will head to Illinois for a pair of games against the Peoria Rivermen on November 13 and 14 this upcoming weekend.

The win takes Houston to a record of 6-5-2 with 14 points and currently in 5th place in the West Division. For the Abbotsford Heat, they currently in 2nd place in the North Division with an 8-6-1 record and only trail the Hamilton Bulldogs on the Number of Games played as the Bulldogs have played 4 fewer games through the first month of the season.

From Abbotsford, BC: The Houston Aeros scored twice on the Power Play and goalie Matt Hacket turned away 31 shots in regulation, but it wasn't enough as the Abbotsford Heat overcame a late deficit to edge the Aeros 3-2 in a shootout Monday Night at the Abbotsford Sports and Entrainment Center.

Abbotsford's Carter Banks forced overtime, scoring with just 34 seconds left in regulation, after the Heat pulled goalie Leland Irving for an extra attacker. The Aeros, who went 2/6 on the power play, opened a 2-0 lead on markers by Cody Almond (9:26 of the 1st Period), and Jean-Michael Daoust (13:22 of the 2nd Period). Jon Disalvatore and Marco Scandella assisted on each.

Greg Nemisz scored on the power play at 15:51 of the 2nd to pull the Heat within a goal and then assisted on Banks' tying goal.

Irving stopped 26 saves and all four Houston Saves in the Shootout to help Abbotsford (8-6-1 17 points) pull into a tie into the Hamilton Bulldogs for first place in the North Division.

Hackett, seeing his first action since October 29 against San Antonio, made 31 saves in three plus periods of hockey and stopped two of four shots in the Shootout session.

Houston is unbeaten in regulation in five games (4-0-1) and now sits one point behind third place Milwaukee with a 6-5-2 14 points in the West Division.

Late Goals doom Tulsa against the Colorado Eagles

After a Gary Steffes goal that put the Oilers and Eagles tied at 1-1 late in the 2nd period. Even a Colorado Goal by long time Eagle Scott May still had them in this game after the 2nd intermission with Tulsa Goalie Tyler Simms who's stopped 21 of 24 shots in the game and had them still down a goal as late as 3 minutes left in regulation.

It Riley Nelson who finally ended the Oilers threat with 3 minutes and then an empty netter from Daymen Raycroft scored with just over a minute left to win 4-1 and send the Eagles to 4-1-0 to lead the Northern Conference while Tulsa falls to 2-2-1 with 5 points as the Oilers are currently tied with the RG Valley Killer Bees with 5 games played so far this season.

Colorado Goalie Ryan Jones was able to stop 18 of 19 shots last night for his 3rd win of the year and is currently unbeaten at 3-0 with a 2.00 GAA. Meanwhile, Tulsa Oilers Goalie Tyler Simms is 0-1-1 in 3 games played with a 2.14 GAA & a .907 SV%.

From Tulsa, Oklahoma: The Colorado Eagles defeated the Tulsa Oilers, 4-1, extending their four game winning streak and remaining perfect on the road this season. Riley Nelson lead the offense with a goal and an assist, Kyle Jones was strong at the opposite end of the ice, stopping 18 of 19 Oilers shots and the Eagles penalty killers went a perfect 5-for-5 on the night to propel the team to victory.

In a fairly uneventful first 20 minutes of play, the Eagles and Oilers skated to a scoreless first period with Colorado killing three power play opportunties. Goaltender Kyle Jones was strong in net to help the Oilers off the scoreboard, while Colorado edged Tulsa in shots, 7-6.

Colorado out-shot Tulsa 14-7 in the second period and out-scored them be the 2:1 shot ratio. Kevin Ulanski got the games first goal at 5:22 when his shot from the right faceoff circle was deflected past by Tyler Sims. Riley Nelson picked up an assist on the play, given him 600 points in his Eagles career.

The Oilers countered with a goal at 13:10 when Gary Steffes knocked home a loose puck on the doorstep after a play out the left corner. Then, at 16:29, Scott May took a shot from above the left circle and had the rebound pushed past the Oilers net-minder. It appeared that Rookie Matt Glasser toched the puck last as he crashed the crease; if the score gets changed, the tally would be Glasser's first professional goal.

Colorado played a complete final frame, killing consecutive Tulsa Power Play Goals in the first half of the 3rd period. Jones continued to make stellar moves in net, and at 16:57, Nelson scored an insurance goal from the right hashes to give the Eagles some breathing room.

The tally pushed the Eagles scoring streak to six games (dating back to last season) and ketp alive his streak of recording at least two points in every game this season -- the only player in the league who can make such a claim. And with 63 seconds left on the clock, Damen Raycroft added an empty net goal (Colorado's third game in a row with one) to account for the final score.

The teams will now travel to Loveland, Colorado. for the second half of their extended home-and-home series Friday Night.

Texas Stars get revenge against Peoria with 3-0 Shutout

Just a few days after the Peoria Rivermen shutout the Texas Stars 2-0, the Texas Stars got a 3-0 shutout in what was a very similar played game as the Texas Stars Backup Goalie Richard Bachman got only his 2nd career Shutout in the American Hockey League while getting out-shot 38-23 in the game.

After a decent home-stand where the Stars went 3-2 in the last 5 with wins over Lake Erie, Peoria & San Antonio, the Stars head out on the road for 4 of their next 5 with games tonight and tomorrow against the Rockford Icehogs and the Chicago Wolves as they will play both teams for the first time since they beat them both in the 1st 2 Rounds of the playoffs last year.

From Austin, Texas: The Texas Stars defeated the Peoria Rivermen 3-0 on Tuesday Night in front of 5,013 fans at the Cedar Park Center. Texas Goalie Richard Bachman saved all 38 shots in his first start of the season for the shutout. Stars Defensemen Dan Spang netted the game-winning goal 4:15 into the first period for the Stars first win over Peoria this season. Forwards Cody Chupp and Travis Morin also added tallies in the victory. Peoria Goalie Ben Bishop stopped 20 saves in the defeat. The Stars travel to Rockford on Wednesday Night at 6:35 PM CDT.

Texas scored an early power play goal in the first period at 4:15. Defensemen Dan Spang scored his first goal of the season with help from Tomas Vincour and Travis Morin to take a 1-0 first period lead.

Stars forward Cody Chupp scored in the second period to push Texas to a 2-0 lead at 7:14 Chupp first pro goal was assisted by Luke Gazdic and Tristian King.

The Stars added their final goal to take a 3-0 lead with 5:22 minutes in the remaining period. Travis Morin tipped a shot from the point from Trevor Ludwig, scored his fourth goal of the season. Ludwig and Vincour assisted on the late period goal.

Stars travel to Rockford to face the Icehogs Wednesday, October 27 at 6:35 PM and to Chicago to play the Wolves on Thursday, October 28 at 7:00 PM. After a pair of road games, the Stars return home on Saturday, October 30 to face the Houston Aeros at 7:00 PM. The Stars will host the first ever "Pink in the Rink Night" at the Cedar Park Center presented by Cedar Park Regional Center. After a 7-3 comeback win over the Slovakia, the USA kept the good start to Group A going with a 3-0 shutout win over Switzerland in their tournament opener as the Americans look stay unbeaten in anticipation with the New Year's Eve Matchup against Canada in the final game of the Group Stage.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan: Jack Campbell stopped all 22 shots faced, as the U.S. National Junior Team shut out Switzerland, 3-0, in it's 2nd game of the IIHF World Junior Championship Game. The U.S. improved to 2-0-0-0, with two games remaining in the tournament's preliminary round.

"I thought we stuck to our game plan and eventually wore them down," said Dean Blais, head coach of the the USA National Junior Team. "Both goaltenders played extremely well. I thought Jack really made some key saves in the first period to keep the game scoreless.

Campbell started strong between the pipes, turning aside a pair of Swiss breakaway attempts and helping Team USA kill a two man advantage in the opening frame.

The U.S. grabbed a 1-0 lead six minutes into the 2nd period on it's first power play of the game. Chris Kreider redirected a Cam Fowler slap shot under the Swiss goalie Benjamin Conz for his first tally of the tournament.

Team USA sealed its victory with a pair of third period goals. Matt Donovan scored his 2nd goal of the tournament with seven and a half minutes remaining after collecting a pass from Ryan Bourque and beating Conz low to the stick side. A.J. Jenks tally four minutes later to complete the scoring.

Next action for Team USA comes Tuesday (Dec. 29) at 3 PM CST against Latvia. The game can be seen live in the U.S. on the NHL Network. It will also be streamed live in the U.S. on fasthockey.com
