Dallas Stars Elites and Midget Minors in Tier 1 Action this weekend

Both of the Dallas Stars Elites and Midget Minor Teams are in action this weekend as both teams will by playing in their 2nd Tier 1 Events of the young season.

Elites (U18)

Back in Mid-September the Elites (U18) finished with a perfect 4-for-4 weekend where they had to come back in all 4 of their wins back where they played their opener in Illinois where they played 4 of the 5 teams from the Illinois/Ohio Division where they played teams like Team Illinois and Chicago Youth Association (CYA) and had some great performances like Garret Cox had 2 goals in the win against Team Illinois while Marcus Ortiz had critical assists on both goals in the game.

Also that weekend, players like Tanner Karty and Garrett Cox who lead the team in scoring with 4 and 3 goals respectably while 6 other players registered goals during the opening weekend of action over in Illinois.

Where the Elites need to improve is the defense where they don't need to comeback and gave up 6 goals, but got better as that weekend went on. Goaltending was very solid in the opening weekend event as both Des Moines Buccaneers Prospect Christan Frey and Sean Lawrence had a GAA of a strong 1.50 while Frey had a .952 SV% while giving up just 3 goals over the weekend.

If the goaltending continues to stay this good, they could find themselves in a position where they can compete for the Tier 1 Mid-American Division and overall league titles this season.

This weekend is a weekend roadtrip to Glendale Arizona where they will faceoff the West Division Teams like the LA Selects Hockey Club and the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes who's hosting the event this weekend. In addition to these two teams. They will also face the Colorado Thunerbirds and the LA Kings Elites as well this weekend. They need to show that the weekend in Illinois wasn't a fluke and continue the momentum they built up back in Illinois. If they can do that, they will be a force in the Tier 1 Elite League this season at the U18 Level.

Midget Minors (U16)

It was a different story for the Dallas Stars Midget Minor Team (U16) as the team went 1-2-1 back in late September. They will head to Detroit to faceoff against the Detroit Area Teams this weekend as the goaltending was suspect at times where despite playing some really close games, they proved that they didn't have the killer instinct that the Elites had.

Not a single multi goal scorer came out of the opening weekend where just 3 players (Maximov, Sinitsyn, Schartz) were able to get multi points this weekend, but neither of them had more then one goal or one assists that. So far, just one player in Zane Schartz has multiple assists with 2 that weekend.

There needs to be some work done of the offense for the Midget Minors to have a strong shot of bouncing back and catching up with the St. Louis AAA Blues and Russel Stover Hockey Teams who are also in Detroit this weekend.

If the Midget Minor can't turn it around this weekend while the Blues and Stover Teams who are expected to do well continue, then it maybe another long season for the Midget Minor who won just 9 games last year and have won just 1 in 4 games this season.

Dallas Stars Elites have impressive start to Tier 1 Season

The Dallas Stars Midget Majors went 4-for-4 in their season opening event up in Wisconsin as the Stars Elites, despite giving up the first goal in all 4 games, won all 4 games last weekend. As they went up against the Illinois/Ohio Division to start the Tier 1 Season as they took down 3 of the Illinois Teams and the only Ohio based Team against the Cleveland Barons as well.

Through the first 4 games, Tanner Karty & Garrett Cox were the leading scorers with 4 & 3 goals respectively.Other big performances coming from players like Marcus Ortiz with 3 assists, who's playing his first full season after getting noticed by the team while he played for Garland ISD in the AT&T Metroplex HS Hockey League midway through last season.

One of the big things that could have gone wrong by giving up the first goal, but the goaltending duo of Christian Frey (Whose a Des Moines Buccaneers Prospect) and Sean Lawrence who are able to fight it off to help the Elites win all 4 games last weekend.

If Christian Frey keeps playing like this, it may just be a matter of time before he may get a shot with the Dese Moines Buccaneers, especially if the Buccaneers have some injury problems to deal with in net. In his first two games against Team Illinois and the Cleveland Barons, he went an impressive 1.50 GAA with a 2-1 win over Team Illinois on Saturday Afternoon and a 4-2 win over Cleveland on Sunday.

As for his goaltending partner with Sean Lawrence who also just gave up 3 goals during the weekend in a 3-1 win over the Chicago Fury on Friday and a 4-2 win over the CYA on Saturday Morning.

If the Stars Elites Goaltending can keep this up, it could be a year where the team could be in a spot to at least not just contend for the Mid-American Division Title, if not the Tier 1 U18 Title this season.

One thing the Stars Elites will need to correct is the massive amount of penalties as they almost had their coach suspended due to the penalty acclimation and a 10 minute misconduct in the 2nd period by Kyle Mckenzie in the game against Team Illinois. This should be the #1 thing the Stars Elites need to work on before their next game against the Alliance Bulldogs on Friday Night, and for their next event in Arizona in Mid-October when they face the West Division Teams.

If the Stars Elites are going to be a force in the Tier 1 League this season, the number of penalties seriously needs to come down. They will have plenty of time before the next set of Tier 1 Games next month as they will head west to Arizona for 4 games in Mid-October.

However, before then it's their next game against the Dallas Alliance Bulldogs on Friday Night at the Dr. Pepper Starcenter in Valley Ranch. Earlier this month, the Stars Elites played the Alliance Bulldogs during Labor Day Weekend who won 3-0 in their first game of the season.

Also with the 4-for-4 weekend, the Stars Elites find themselves on top of the Mid-American Division with a perfect 8 points with the St. Louis Amateur Blues 2 points back who had a record of 2-0-2 last weekend

Here's the Boxscores from this past weekend.

9/17: Dallas Stars Elites 2 Team Illinois 1 (1-1, 1-0, 0-0)

9/18: Chicago Fury 1 Dallas Stars Elites 3 (1-0, 0-2, 0-1)

9/18: Dallas Stars Elites 4 Cleveland Barons 2 (1-1, 2-1, 1-0)

2010-2011 Dallas Stars Elites Information

The schedules are coming out in chunks as the schedule for the Dallas Stars Midget Major (U18) and Midget Minor (U16) are slowly starting to come out for the Tier 1 Elite League which is the best Youth Hockey League and System in the country.

For area players playing Juniors & the NCAA in recent years, this is where a majority of the talent is coming from so it's important to track this team to see how their doing and which players could have a shot of getting recognized by leagues like the United States Hockey League (USHL), the Western Hockey League (WHL) and the NCAA.

As for players who are looking to make USHL Rosters include Seth Johnson (Sioux City Musketeers), Christian Frey (Des Moines Buccaneers), Teemu Tiitnen (Youngstown Phantoms) and Tyler Hope (Tri-City Storm) and Jeff Mcminimy (Lincoln Stars) all played for the Dallas Stars Elites in recent seasons and will be looking to use this level as a chance to move up to the NCAA & Professional Ranks, possibly the NHL later in their careers.

This is where the best Youth Players look to play for in the Dallas Area and around the country hoping to get noticed by teams in the Junior Ranks and into the NCAA as well, so it shows you how important it is to make the Tier 1 Elite League to improve your chances.

Last year for the U18's finished the 48 game season at .500 with a 20-20-8 record which was good good for 3rd Place in the League's Mid American Division.

They looking to improve on that and especially the defense where it was a bit leaky at times by giving up 153 goals during the season. And by hoping that the defense improves in a division that has the Madison Capitals, Ohio Blue Jackets, Russell Stover and St. Louis Amateur Blues. This

The season gets underway on September 17 with a 4 game in 3 day weekend set with the teams in the Illinois Division against Team Illinois. They will also play the Chicago Fury, Cleveland Barons and the Chicago Youth Association during the weekend as well.

This was a division where Russell Stover edged out the St. Louis Amateur Blues for the Mid-Am Division title by a mere two points, but the rest of the division was well back where the Dallas Stars finished 3rd by a massive margin of 18 points over the Division Champions. This year thought that Dallas is expecting to see a much more competitive division like the top of the Illinois Division was last year.

As for the defending Champions, the Belle Tires Team out of Detroit are the defending Midget Major Champions with an impressive 36 wins that got them 77 points, edging out the CYA by 3 points.

In the Midget Minor League everyone will be gunning for the Chicago Missions who ran away with the Illinois Division and were an 8 points clear of the Detroit Division Champion Little Caesars.

The full schedule for the most part is not out yet because of how the league is set up. Most teams play at different events where you could have like 6 or 8 of the 25 teams for instance may play something like 3 or 4 games in a single weekend. As it stands right now, they are no plans for the Dallas Stars Elites to host any events yet (At least what we know).

As for the Midget Minor (U16) Team, they looking to put last year behind them with just 9 wins in 38 games last year in the Tier 1 League and had one of the worst offenses by scoring just 67 goals.

However, they did have a strong defense and goaltending which had Christian Frey who was selected by the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL Entry Draft back in May.

Things are looking like that he may return to get some more experience, or if he doesn't come back with the Dallas Stars Elites, he may go to a league like the NAHL or one of the Canadian Jr. A Leagues to prepare him for the USHL.

For the U16 Team to be successful, the offense will have to show big improvements on the offense with a lot of new players and put last year behind them. However, can they find the goaltending that they had last year like a Christian Frey type player that can keep opposing teams off the scoreboard.

As I told you earlier the full schedule has not been released yet as 20 of the scheduled 48 games have been official while 20 of the 38 scheduled games are official for the Midget Minor Team as the season is scheduled to start in Mid September.

Here's the Links to follow for the Dallas Stars Midget Major (U18) & Midget Minor (U16) Teams to check out as the season starts next month.

In addition to the current schedule, the Dallas Stars U18 has games against Dallas Alliance on 9/3 at Farmers Branch Starscenter and again on September 24 in Valley Ranch. The U18 Team also has a pair of games this fall against Dallas Ice Jets but those haven't been officially schedule yet.

Nothing yet on any possible friendlies for the Dallas Stars U16 Team yet.
